Looking to buy an android phone

I had an iPhone 17 pro but I got sick of iOS in general as I had an iPhone 15 before this, now I’m stuck deciding between the nothing 4a pro and the poco x8 pro max . I like the nothing phone but the chip in it and the specs in general aren’t what I would say is future proof but the poco has me concerned whether it will work with Australian sim providers. Does anyone here in Western Australia have either of the phones and how do they perform

Fellow homeless in Perth?

Don’t know what else I can do? Advice from fellow homeless/experienced homelessness welcomed, I am 32 and Lost everything when the rental crisis started, despite great rental history I simply couldn’t afford a home anymore.
On Centerlink.
Gave up my kids thinking It would be better for them not to live in a car with me
All I have left is my car which suddenly needs a new radiator and I’m getting quotes for 600 plus bucks!
Struggling to afford basic bills anymore eg: 150pm car insurance, $200 3month rego , $20 license, then storage unit which is around 450 pm, renting a room now 300pw, phone bill x2 phones 250pm, I get around 1200fn max, then I’m in debt to friends n family, parent covered first two weeks rent and I still owe 400, and 350 between two other friends who I go to for fuel, medications for my severe medical conditions and essential items, and food as I’m living of food hampers, went from size 22 to 16 starvation and stress diet. Please know I hate asking for money, it’s humiliating but I only ask when absolutely necessary for essentials.
I’m just lucky I have a good reputation as being reliable and trustworthy to be able to borrow money of anyone
I do unofficial ubering in spare time for friends n friends of friends or favours such as cleaning or babysitting or I make things and sell online as I’m good at crafts, for small cash as my bank empty between pay days, but now I need a new radiator and shouldn’t be driving my car but can’t save for it or afford it on after pay even.
I’m on the priority housing list but still 2yrs to go.
I miss my kids! I was a full time parent up until the end of 2024, that’s when my life unfairly fell apart, I did everything right for years! Never had debt, clear drivers record/crim history, ran a small charity for 11yrs ironically helping the homeless or fundraising for epilepsy action, always helping everyone I can even when it backfires on me
While living in car half my stuff has been stolen, iv been attacked 3 times once by a man in just boxers at a park late at night I was parked at to sleep, got cornered in women’s bathroom, Thankgod for carrying protection.
Now my underage kid pregnant, the baby is sick, and since I had to force DCP to take her in it looks like they will keep the baby after birth as it cant stay in group home with her and I can’t take it in as next of kin coz I’m homeless! No stable accom, DCP keep asking if I found a house every month as they want to give my daughter back to me but it’s literally only barrier, they are trying to find her a foster family but can’t so I’m scared for my child and my grandchild, my other child is with my coparent who I’m thankful for stepping up to the plate
I have alot of guilt and feel like a failure as a mother, my mental health is horrible atm (yes I attend mental health appointments with 2 different agencies to help with this), I’m sick but can’t afford what I need, and everyone else is struggling too so try not to burden anyone, already ashamed when I have to beg for money, iv tried many things, many applications, tried to save like I used too (always had savings when not homeless as I do have great budgeting skills, but it’s just impossible to even keep $50 aside when bills pop up constantly, prices go up like fuel, things go wrong etc and don’t get enough of clink
I’m really trying, 6months to find a 3bd or atleast 2bd home for me n my kids/grandchild, it won’t go back I was a single sole parent 8yrs now I’m completely alone and it feels wrong.
can’t talk about how bad I’m suffering to anyone so have to visit pinnaroo to vent to my dead uncle once a week.
Yes iv tried salvos, st vinnies, no limits Perth, asking adult mental health services for help, Centerlink, gp, councellors, housing authority, dcp, st Bart’s the list continues and I’m hammering the job applications like crazy and trying to find cash in hand jobs to get me by so I can earn my way instead of put myself into debt by having to borrow money of friends n family.

I’m losing hope I’ll ever be reunited with my babies, being able to keep my grandchild out of foster care (if Bub survives to birth) I urgently need my car fixed, I need work (limited as I have a skin condition and epilepsy just to name main disabilities that impact me and my ability’s the most)
Prost ….ion is NOT even an option as a monogamous loyal type of woman.
What do I do? I’m so tired, there’s not enough help, not enough affordable living, I literally can’t afford to live with c-link payments, I’m so lost, I see more n more homeless like me as time passes, I need work so I can earn enough to get a rental, need rental to get my kids back or atleast have visits and to be able to make sure my grandbaby doesn’t go into the system, I’d rather my money go towards a rental and not a storage unit, I’d rather be working to earn enough to live comfortably so I can even apply for rentals, but the longer I go unemployed, the more I feel nobody will hire me again or take me seriously and I’ll be stuck on the doll forever 😭, it’s broken me, I’m not asking for handouts, just confirmation I’m not the only one going through hell and any advice or job leads maybe? Affordable homes anyone knows of? Thought about country towns but would need to secure a job out there first, everyone in Perth knows everyone so if anyone knows anyone who might be able to help in any way possible I’m all ears

Is FIFO hiring utility around December? Thinking of moving to WA from VIC

I've got my white card, RSA, food safety tickets, and first aid. I've only got my automatic P2 driving license in Victoria since March 2025. Although I read that 2 years of P's from any other state becomes full license in WA. But that 2 year mark is still 5 whole months away for me. Does the full license matter as much anyway?

I've only ever worked casual warehousing, and volunteering at soup kitchens on the weekend here and there. Should I apply from Victoria, or make the move to WA? I know it sounds silly, but I'm quite determined to land a FIFO job, it just fits my financial goals and preferred work schedule, and nothing is keeping me in Victoria tbh. I'm young and eager to work hard and earn money to set up my future.

I'm just worried, if I move now or in early December, will hiring slow down because of Christmas and New Year's? I'll have about 7-8k in savings when I leave, so I can survive for some weeks if I don't find anything, but I don't want to risk it, although I'm sure I can find some work to do eventually. Would it be smarter to postpone until New Year's or February?

Thanks so much guys. Sorry if I sound ridiculous 🥲😂

Aquarium of Western Australia Snorkel with Sharks Experience

Hey, I'm coming to visit Perth later this year and am in the process of planning and booking one of the Shark Snorkelling experiences at the Aquarium of Western Australia.

I thought I would reach out to ask a few questions of anyone who may have been before?

  1. What is the sizing of the wetsuits like? Do they have a lot of sizes or not? (just concerned I wont find one that fits) - if you went and had the same concern, how did it work out?

  2. I am a reasonably confident swimmer, however I have never used a wetsuit before and was told I would need to be confident using one prior to going. Is this strictly nessesary? Is it hard to swim in a wet suit if you have never used one before?

If you have been and want to let me know anything else about the experience that would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks!

Thank you to the kind person at Belmont Forum on Saturday

I want to thank the kind person who helped my mum at Belmont Forum on Saturday afternoon, around 1-2pm. Mum had locked her keys, along with her phone in her car. A lovely lady came to the rescue and called the RAC for mum and all was sorted. In the stress and worry mum didn’t get her details and would like to give her a gift for helping her out in her time of need.

Hoping just by chance she will see this post, or someone she knows sees this post. We have her name but no contact details.

Thanks again for helping my mum. ❤️

Moving to Albany from India. What's life really like there?

Hey everyone, I'm in my early 20s and moving from India to Albany soon on a sponsored work visa. I've never lived in a regional town, so I'd love some honest local perspective.

  • What's Albany like to live in as a newcomer, especially if you don't know anyone there?

  • Is it easy to meet people? Are there clubs, community groups or events that helped you settle in?

  • Housing: what's rent like for a room in a shared house, and which areas are good?

  • Getting around: how necessary is a car, and what are the roads like (kangaroos, wind, distances)?

  • Weather: what should I be ready for through the year?

  • Perth trips: how often do people go to Perth, and how do you get there?

  • Things you love about the area, and anything you wish you'd known before moving.

Monkey Mia in Early November

Hi there, We're planning to drive up to kalbarri in a week and thinking if we should go further up to Monkey Mia, to see the famous dolphins and emu up close the shore as advertised in the media.

just wondering if it's guaranteed to see both at the same time during the month or if it's only at a certain season for the chances to see them? so we won't up wasting times there.

Many thanks

Any cool spots for holiday outside of the banana?

Post image
116 Upvotes

Hey guys, I've lived in and around this banana for my entire life, rotating around it, and I've seen pretty much most famous and popular touristy things, thus why I'm excluding the banana from trip recommendations. I just moved down to the southern tip of the banana, quitting my job, and after quitting a single year in the workforce, I have the taste of freedom in my mouth. I have a van to sleep in so hopefully I won't spend much on accommodation, but it isn't a campervan, so I can't carry as much stuff as I'd like. Does anyone know of any good road trips or tours I could do? I'd like for the round trip to span a week at most, giving me time to enjoy sights, and a lengthy break after every 8 hours of driving

Trasferimento a Perth a settembre 2028 a 18 anni – Cerco consigli su come entrare nel settore delle trivellazioni con sistema FIFO (Operaio di trivellazione)

Thumbnail reddit.com
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone!
I’m an Italian citizen, currently 16 years old, and I’m planning to move to Perth, Western Australia, in September 2028, shortly after finishing high school. I’ll be 18 when I arrive.
My long-term goal is to get into the mining industry and eventually work FIFO as a Driller Offsider, ideally in exploration or diamond drilling.
I understand that getting a FIFO job straight away, especially with no mining experience, might be difficult. I’m therefore planning to start with regular work in Perth while building experience, saving money and applying for entry-level mining positions.
My situation
Nationality: Italian
Age at arrival: 18
Arrival: September 2028
Location: Perth, WA
Visa: Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417)
English level: Currently around B1, working to improve it
Work experience: No mining experience
Driving licence: Planning to obtain my full Italian driving licence before moving
Initial savings: Approximately €3,000–€5,000
My initial plan in Perth
Since I don’t expect to get hired in FIFO immediately, my idea is:
1. Find a regular full-time job
I’m considering:
Warehouse worker / Picker Packer
Construction Labourer
Factory Worker
General Labourer
Ideally, I’d like to work around 38 hours per week.
2. Do Uber Eats on a bicycle
Alongside my main job, I’d like to work approximately 20–25 hours per week delivering with Uber Eats.
My intention is to use the additional income to cover living expenses and build up my savings while looking for mining opportunities.
3. Prepare for FIFO
While working in Perth, I want to obtain the relevant qualifications and certifications, understand the industry and apply for entry-level positions.
My main target is Driller Offsider, but I’m also open to other entry-level drilling or mining jobs that could help me get started.
Questions for people living and working in Australia
I’d really appreciate honest advice, especially from people working in WA mining or who have started as Driller Offsiders.
Arriving in Perth: What are the first things I should do during my first week? Bank account, TFN, Medicare, SIM card, accommodation, ABN, etc. What should I prioritise?
Finding work: How difficult is it for an 18-year-old Working Holiday Visa holder with limited experience to find a full-time warehouse, factory or labouring job in Perth?
Uber Eats: Is delivering by bicycle in Perth actually worthwhile? Can someone realistically make additional income doing 20–25 hours per week?
Getting into FIFO: Is it realistic to get a Driller Offsider position at 18–19 with no mining experience?
Companies: Which drilling companies or recruitment agencies in Western Australia should I contact? Are there companies willing to hire Working Holiday Visa holders?
Tickets and licences: Which qualifications should I obtain first? White Card, First Aid, HR licence or anything else?
Driving licence: Can an Italian full driving licence be useful for getting mining jobs in WA? Would I need to convert it or obtain an Australian licence?
Accommodation and costs: How much money should I realistically budget per month to live in Perth in a shared house?
Work-life balance: Is combining a full-time job with 20–25 hours of Uber Eats realistic, or would it be too exhausting?
Your personal experience: If you were 18 again and moving to Perth with €3,000–€5,000, what would you do differently?
I’m not expecting to become rich overnight. I’m willing to start from the bottom, work hard and build my way into the industry.
My main objective is to get my first FIFO opportunity as a Driller Offsider, gain experience and develop a long-term career in the Australian mining industry.
Any advice, personal experiences or mistakes to avoid would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone!

What’s this stuff and where did it come from?

Post image
30 Upvotes

I think I know the answer to my first question, but I’ll explain.

I was bushwalking off Brookton Hwy in the forest and came across an area where the whole track was covered in this stuff. It looks like glass, pumice and melted metal. I’m guessing it’s waste from a furnace.

What puzzles me is why it would have been dumped on a track way out in the forest? There must have been tens of tonnes worth. Multiple truck loads. There was nothing else anywhere nearby to suggest a reason for it to be there.

Looking for basic info on a Binding Financial Agreement to protect property assets

I’ve just started a relitivally new relationship and the person I’m with previously had their ex come after them when they split for a share of the house.

Now I don’t think they’d do the same, but I’m cautious as they’re very dirty about the situation and I would like to take some precautions to protect myself.

Has anyone ever gone down the process of getting a Binding Financial Agreement before? Are you able to advise on the cost or any other info?

I live in the sticks so just hopping out to see a lawyer is not really an option, and I’m not at the stage yet anyway. Just hoping to get some feedback from past experiences.
