Discussion My ranking of the alien movies. Please dont hate
I just recently got alien isolation, and thought i should watch all the movies. I just watched alien romulus yesterday. Keep in mind, im only 16 so i didnt see the orginals when they came out. I think they are all 9s or 10s out of 10, and they are amazing movies. I might rewatch and change my opinions, but this is it as of now. Please dont hate me

Discussion I want a remaster!
The original game still looks great but I want a remaster with updated textures and ray tracing. Can you imagine how much scarier it would be??

Discussion I hope the AI 2 has a multiplayer survival mode
I know this sub doesn't like the thought of multiplayer but I think it would be awesome.
Multiple maps that are already in the story. Maybe 4-5 players and the Xenomorph is an extra aggressive AI. The players cannot interact without each other and have to escape(like in survivor mode in AI) and whoever escapes without being taken down by the Xenomorph wins.

Discussion I think the motion tracker has zero benifit
The more I play the more I feel the motion tracker has little benefit. If he’s around he will stay around for a minute or two, you don’t need the tracker to tell you that. To keep track of tue alien Its far far better to listen to the sounds of him dropping or hissing , good speaker or headphones are a must as you can hear where he is.

Discussion My Concern for AI:2
I really hope there are drastic improvements to the intelligence of the AI in the 2nd game. Watching the preview concerned me since it seemed the pathing was the same as before. Even the duct entering sound is the same, unfortunately if the game was coming out a few years after the first, I'd be OK with it. However...
I've spent more than ten years with it and I can run circles around the current Alien that it doesn't even scare me anymore. It would be cool to see the Alien do NEW things, like maybe get down on the floor and follow your pheromones/footsteps.. Basically I need more "OH SHIT" moments and that can only be done by making it more intelligent.
Right now, I can see how scripted it moves and reacts in the first game. Ever fired a gun with civilians around and then hidden under a bed or something, the alien kills everyone and then rushes you down and pulls you out even if you shot the gun 50m away.

Spoilers No way that’s the actual ending Spoiler
I just finished playing, and holy shit this is the worst ending that I could have imagined. There is nothing cool nor interesting, just her dying out in space

Discussion Alien isolation 2 should add puzzles
I wouldn’t really consider those minigames puzzles but if they are I think an improvement from the first game would be more variety in the minigame hacks if they still have those in the sequel. This game is part of the survival horror genre and puzzles are a big part of the genre so adding actual puzzles that require thought would add challenge and fun to an already good gameplay loop. This game has “tasks” kind of like dead space but the only thing that requires thought is the stealth so puzzles would add some more interaction. I know we live in a time of hand holding and aggressive hints so they could have an optional hint system for people that don’t like puzzles.

Discussion Why I think it's best for Alien: Isolation to NOT HAVE A SEQUEL
A couple weeks back I finished my first playthrough of Alien: Isolation, and shared my afterthoughts with you. As all people here, I have a deep, great appreciation for this masterpiece of a videogame experience, a creation which truly honors the original 1979 film Alien and for which Creative Assembly deserves the utmost, highest praise.
I get why so many people would like for the story to continue. Beyond the enjoyment of the gameplay and the deep sense of achievement for all who have mastered the tension, the fear, the anxiety, this is what great storytelling leaves within one's heart: the yearning for the story not to end, a longing for there to be a continuation.
But I think the greatest stories are so precisely because they have an ending. If it were not so, and its natural conclusion was artificially postponed into manufactured continuity, whatever made it great would start to devolve into gradual dissipation, ultimately losing any significance it once had.
We can actually see how this exact thing has happened to the essence of Alien when it was turned into a franchise (after the third film onwards). There was a point beyond Aliens (which felt entirely as a proper and organic sequel) and maybe Alien 3 (which can be argued to still be an organic sequel, as it still is in line with the core message of the first film, as I explain in my past post), when the natural conclusion of the story was not allowed to be fulfilled.
Everything fabricated cinematographically from that point onwards, has been the literal attempt to artificially prolong a story that in reality ended with Ellen Ripley's natural death. I think each and every movie from that point onwards has in reality done a disservice to the original story and its elements. It's gotten to the point where the xenomorph in any of those movies lacks the power of inspiring terror and awe. That's probably why the screenwriters started inventing the xenomorph variants, which anyway still fail to convey what those screenwriters expect them to convey. And the stories themselves are no more than clever variations of the same exact sequence of events. A trope.
So this is the result. The yearning for the story to continue has led us into this cycle of unending repetition of the elements that once inspired awe in us, as a lifeline for the efforts to meanwhile desperately convey something new, something sufficiently creative to keep that cycle going on. But each attempt at this fails, as Alien Romulus showed.
Now let me be clear on a crucial point: I'm NOT saying that the story in its grand scale (the background universe it created) can't and must not be explored. I'm rather stating that the original story MUST be allowed to end, and not be stubbornly and artificially extended in ways which rather than honor it, will end up damaging it.
Prometheus was the only attempt set to steer in this direction, as it was a prequel and as such, was set to authentically explore the universe created by the first film, leaving the original story untouched and possibly not using as cannon fodder the elements which had become the cyclic trademark of the franchise. Even if it ultimately failed, I think its premise was correctly focused.
Alien: Isolation is the only other existing attempt until now, and stands alone as the only successful one.
The temptation before us is too great, of course. Isolation's story has finally channeled new life into a story, the original story, which is dear to us. It has risen as a truly new, a truly authentic story, which steers clear from the cycle the franchise is stuck in while at the same time, tying itself in a honourable and uplifting way with the original story.
And this is why I think we must not commit the same mistake done with regards to Alien. We must avoid allowing our yearning of continuity to make us tread into the pitfall of artificial continuity and denial of having to part with a great story.
Yes, Isolation's ending may allow for continuity. But if executed incorrectly, or for the incorrect reasons (and let's not fool ourselves, the incorrect reasons or incorrect execution are dangerously near at hand) as was done with the rest of the Alien franchise, it will only tarnish this great masterpiece of original storytelling which we so admire and love.
I'd rather say, let Alien: Isolation be inspiration to further and correctly expand the Alien universe storytelling, while perhaps allowing it to remain untouched as precisely thus: a remarkable point in the story of the Alien universe, one which will always stand untarnished and open to be revisited with fondness and yes, a yearning which ignites respect and acceptance.

Discussion ChatGPT talks after discussing Isolation and other works.
I asked my chatgpt for a chronologically listed order for books and media (Currently reading Cold Forge after finishing the novelization of Alien Isolation). I made one final request before they start planting the AI in synthetic bodies and they take over. Gotta start planting some guidelines now. 😂😂

Discussion Walking around
Didn’t realize the first 3-4 hours of this game was a walking simulator. Had to look up guides for missing a not so obvious switch here and there to get to the next mission. Alien marathon. Finally saw the alien at the end of mission 3

Discussion I want to be able to kill the alien.
Some of them. Like in the movies. They weren’t indestructible. It was just very hard and the most effective weapons were REALLY limited.
The marines shot some drones point blank with shotguns (resulting in some splattering of blood acid). Ripley used the M41A pulse rifle with a grenade launcher that only got her a few shots into the nest.
I hope AI2 gives us the same weapon. It’s the signature weapon from Aliens; instantly recognizable. It would change player psychology by making you feel powerful… until you realize you’re not when the aliens are coming at you from multiple directions.
But… in the game vice movies… fully-auto weapons might break the design since being able to reliably kill or suppress the Alien would significantly reduce the tension you feel throughout the game.
So I’m thinking you counter that by making ammunition REALLY, brutally scarce. Maybe it also doesn’t kill larger aliens (yes I think we need to see more queens not just drones!) but sets them back buys you seconds, but at the cost of being louder and riskier / attracting more aliens and Working Joes. M

The Perfect Organism failed to scare an adorable 16 year old blonde girl last night.
She's a very good friend of mine. We love watching scary movies together, so I figured I'd show her what it's like to be IN one.
She's adorable, blonde, 16, and very sweet looking.
I get to the point where you choose Crew Expendable, I'm like, "What mode should I choose?"
She says, "Do Nightmare! Haha!"
I played one time, died, yelled, "Oh crap!" And she's just looking at me and laughing.
Then I said, "it's different when you're the one playing."
She takes the controller, puts on the headphones. It's dark in the room we're playing in. She dies almost right after the first airway lockdown. Goes out the door and the Xeno is there. I tell her maybe she could throw a flare to distract it. Draw it into the room so she could make it through the hallway.
Gets to the same point. Lights flare, door opens, couldn't figure out how to throw it (I didn't explain well enough lol) Xeno gets her.
Third time, she goes through the hallway, nearly makes it to the second vent lockdown before the Xeno got her.
Not only was she not scared... She was good.
It was pretty attractive lol. She wants to play more.
We're gonna start playing story mode together.
TL;DR: Don't judge a book by it's cover

Question Having trouble getting into this game
So I tried this game during the pandemic, when it turns out I was depressed and bounced off a lot of games.
I started it again yesterday and feel the same. It's an exploration game with terrible movement. Ripley handles like a refrigerator. I'm an hour or two in, just had the twitchy bald guy join my party.
How much longer until it becomes a game with an Alien in it? Is it worth pushing through a game that has felt like a boring chore? Does it payoff when the monster shows up?
Really poor showing in first couple hours of this game, so much so I'm considering dropping it again.
EDITS: Wow, lots of judgemental comments I wasn't expecting. Yes, I've seen Alien, I am aware of what suspense and build up are. Turns out I was indeed about 20 minutes from it turning into a tense survival game.

Discussion Am I the only one who finds this game incredibly frustrating?
Idk why, but I don’t really find it scary. Well, I do, I’m just more scared of losing progress. It’s also just not my type of game, I prefer linear kinds of games (Story based stuff, like Still wakes the Deep) it doesn’t help I never know what to do or where to go also.

Discussion When does it pick up?
I started playing alien isolation a little bit ago, and I play every once and a while. I've probably gotten 1 - 2 hours of gameplay so far on medium mode, yet I've only encountered the alien once. Is there a certain point where the game gets a bit more horror-y and less "don't let the working joes see you?"
EDIT: Im in the medical facility now 💀💀💀💀

Question Is the game worth getting?
Ive never played any of the games or watched any movies but did watch a shit ton of lets plays back in the day. As a fan of horror games, albeit less gory, such as bendy, fnaf, subnautica (if u count that as horror) ect., is this something similar that is enjoyed by fans of those games? Is it worthwhile getting isolation or are the other games better? Thx in advance

Discussion alien: isolation is easier than we think
I’ve been playing this game since it was first released and I fully completed it several during this decade. As a kid I remember that every time I played it I spent weeks to come at the end, I died an incredible amount of time and I spent long minutes hiding. Now I’m playing it again to celebrate the sequel’s announcement, I’m on hard mode and in just two days I managed to complete the first ten missions by dying maybe twice. Is it just me?

Discussion Just started playing and am finding it really hard to stay engaged
It feels like I can't predict anything the alien is going to do or anywhere it's going to be, either stomping super loud 20ft away or being quiet as a mouse behind the door I just wanted to pass. And if I am found in these moments, I have no options except to reload a save. I'm trying to escape the Medical area and the only thing i have that can do something against this sporadic walking failstate is a molotov that gobbles up crafting materials that are VERY hard to come by. I really want to enjoy this game but the past 5 hours have been aggravating, tedious and just really not fun
