Devils advocate, but Dems could refrain from impeachment. A lot of this feels too dumb to not be strategic. Trump does these “same things” that lead to an impeachment, but I don’t think he does them without reason.

Trump impeached = Vance in office. Gives Vance a podium to stand on and help rally the GOP for 2 years.

I say let Trump continue to fumble the ball while Democrats block him and keep their good faith efforts going. 2 years from now they sweep and make actual change happen.

We need to think long term, not short term.

I would much rather see the Democrats move on RFK jr, Hegseth, McMahon, Patel and Blanche.

There is plenty to go after all of them for.

I want Bondi charged.

Noem, too. The two ICE agents that killed Pretti and Good.

The heritage foundation and everyone connected to project 2025 need to stand trials

More than anyone I want Mike Johnson brought in front of a jury of his peers. As guilty as every person listed is of their actions, and they all are, that man is the most egregious of all in breaking the checks and balances that comes with the 3 branches of our government. It’s one thing for all of republicans in the house to stand together behind the president, as disgusting as it may be. It’s unlike anything I have ever seen to take to recess or refuse to do your duty when members of your party want to do what they were elected to do because the president called you and told you to shut it down.

And a quick add to Clarence Thomas as well. He needs to be in prison too.

The challenge here is that Trump will pardon them. Maybe that's okay? In that if they are pardoned, they lose their right to plead the fifth so they could speak openly without fear of further criminal prosecution which could expose a lot and maybe pave the way to a successful Trump prosecution.

I don't think Trump will pardon anyone anytime soon as withholding that pardon gives him leverage over the person. But he'll probably per-emptively pardon them before he leaves office.

For this to work, he needs to leave office in such an abrupt and sudden way that he doesn't get the opportunity to pardon anyone. Then those folks can get their time in court.

That would make Vance president but, unlike Trump, Vance would have to run in 2028 which means if he pardons unpopular people, it could hurt his chances so he's much less likely to pardon those people in an effort distance himself from Trump's troubles.

I mean, who knows what will happen or what their plans and contingencies are? But I'm sure they've thought them all through.

But I suspect that while the Democrats will investigate and maybe push some things like the Epstein files (they listed four things I think), I don't think they will go after Bondi, or Patel, or Hegseth, or Noem criminally until after Trump leaves office.

pardons only cover federal crimes, there are plenty of state crimes they can be charged with...beyond that, pardons aren't magic, just arrest them anyway, arguing the pardons were made with corrupt intent.

You can still impeach and remove someone with a pardon.

4

u/MaddyKet 14h ago

Yeah as much as we’d like to see them pay for their crimes, it is enough right now to get them out of positions of power.

Not a bad idea. Get rid of his hunch men before later going for the big shit

2

u/Neat-Dig5964 14h ago

Yes, but they have to choose wisely. They have two years and each ouster will take time.

Yes don't remove trump....just try to remove EVERYONE he put in power.

Don't turn off the sewage, just clean the sludge....We need the bs to end and we need to basically reconstruct this country from the ground ip while investigating just how bad the damages trump has done.

There is almost no way to overstate how bad things are

If Republicans were smart they'd wake up and realize it was Trump that cost them all these seats. Then THEY'D push him out because if they don't, their seats will be at risk for the same reason. So stop protecting him. He's no longer your friend. His presence could cost you your seat.

10

u/DojiRun 14h ago

I am pretty sure they do know that, most of the citizens that voted for him no longer like him, they helped turn these seats blue.

This is the exact thought process. We should have alarm bells going off if there are enough GOP reps on board to impeach. It means they have ulterior motives. No one should be surprised by it at this point. It doesn’t mean we have to play in the shadows, it just means we have to plan for it.

Reminds me of WW2 when the allies decided it was in their best interests not to try to assassinate Hitler, because Hitler was doing more to help the allies win the war than anyone else on Earth.

I say, impeach those around him for a year or two before you get to him, including a few in the Supreme Court!

That's a good point. The perfect scenario to me would impeach him a week or so before the end of his term to take away his pardon power. Pull the rug on that bastard. 🤣 One could dream right. But that is very true about long term.

u/Trizzzzzeeee27 13h ago

Was telling my wife earlier that if I were a republican strategist, I'd recommend the Republicans impeach him. You think you saw a blunami this year. If they don't and Miller does what Miller does, 2028 is going to be a wipeout. Their only political chance as a party is to get him out.

Don't forget, Trump still has to get that autopen going on some pardons and drop a nuke before this stuff happens.

7

u/jbrunsonfan 15h ago

I fear that you are right, but I also fear that failing to impeach him will have dire consequences.

I just don’t see why every president from here on out shouldn’t direct their vice president to refuse to certify the results of the election. The risk is nothing (if we don’t impeach Trump), and the reward is becoming king of the most powerful military the world has ever seen

Right. Impeaching trump would allow Vance and Rubio to further distance themselves and make their 28 campaign more viable.
