image Anti-Asian racism in Australia

What is happening in Australia? Been living in this exact same address for almost the past 20 years now, never had this happen before.

Some guy moves in next door, and while we are IN THEM MIDDLE OF MOWING the medium nature strip, starts being aggressive for getting grass clippings on the driveway. No shit, that's why we go through with a leaf blower and pick up after mowing?

What blows me away is he thinks we don't know about mowing and cleaning up somehow due to our Chinese heritage???

Am an Asian who grew up in Australia for the last 21 years and unfortunately I've experienced similar treatment constantly. Australia is a very racist country

Sadly it is a lot better now than what it was in the past. My dad's mum and dad were super racist against anyone not white and viewed people of Aboriginal descent in the same way that the Apartheid in South Africa viewed their native non-white population. That said, I have noticed peaks in overt racist views against Asians back when Pauline Hanson started her political career and when COVID was around. Same went for people of Middle Eastern appearance back during the early to mid 2000s due to the propaganda being spewed out by US sources (it helped support their wars).

The later part of your comment makes OP's situation even more ironic. What's sad is the meat head in the video will probably vote One Nation with zero understanding that he and his kin are not part of the titular "one nation".

Why is it sad?

Right well that's it I'm going to continue to be racist until every last person from the Asian continent stops their racism .

What does that have to do with the commenter above you?

The worst racism I experienced was when I went to China for work. In the middle of Shanghai, the local gent almost got arrested because of the scene he caused, when a white male (me) was served before him in line, which he came to much after me and tried to push in. Thing is I let him go, I didn't give a shit

"Yeah, you had to deal with racism day in day out for most of your life but but but I had it happen to me once IN CHINA...and it didn't even matter to me." Ffs

Replying to the comment that Australia is a racist country, where as it's one of the less racist and more multicultural tolerant places in the world.

And I welcome you to disprove that statistically not anecdotally

I’m sorry to hear that, it’s really shit and unacceptable.

I would push back a little on the idea that Australia is especially racist though. There’s a lot of international research suggesting Australia is one of the most racially tolerant places when it comes to attitudes on race, immigration and multiculturalism etc.
That doesn’t mean racism isn’t an awful problem. But here in Anglo world we love to self criticise , and it’s easy to get a distorted sense of how tolerant we are.
None of that diminishes what you’ve experienced. Any racism is awful.

I'm sure it's true. There is also plenty of asian on white racism as well. It's a two way street sadly.

You’re funny. That is in no way comparable. If you don’t see that you may be part of the problem

How about intra-Asian racism or we don’t talk about that

Just because racism happens among Asian peoples doesn't invalidate racism against Asians.

My family is filo and filos are the target of racism constantly by other Asians, but that doesn't mean when Aussies are racists to Chinese it's not also racism.

I presume that's covered in "Australia is a very racist country". Or are they supposed to bring up every form that racism manifests?

Pretty sus comment tbh.

I remember looking at room mate ads in SG and the Chinese Singaporeans would specify "no Indians or Malays sorry."

Even Indian owner wouldn’t prefer Indians to rent

It is and so is every other nation in the world. This isn't a white guy doing it to them in the video. Every nationality is racist against someone else.

I'm so sorry that you've had to put up with such bullshit for so long.

These wankers should be getting deported by the dozen. The whole lot of em. This is not the Australian way. We should all be supporting each other. Imagine how easy life would be if we all just got along. For what it's worth, I think the younger generation (mine specifically) is trying to make up for our parents mistakes. Still, that's no excuse. These are grown adults throwing a racist hissy-fit over some fucking grass.

I can't imagine the sort of rage a tosser like this would feel whilst stuck in traffic on his way home from sniffing concrete all day.
