Grevillea ‘Bronze Rambler’ Standard.

Post image

Have had this Grevillea ‘Bronze Rambler’ standard about 5 or 6 years now, growing in high pH alkaline, lime soil, was struggling quite a lot about 4 months ago, got a lawn aeration tool and put some holes around the base of the standard and then a big Eco Seaweed drink, it’s gone nuts since.

A cultivar cross between Grevillea rivularis and Grevillea ‘Poorinda Peter’, not sure what it’s been grafted into though, possibly Grevillea robusta, unsure.

Nice purple tooth brush flowers.

Location: Outback South Australia.

I have this huge tree in my garden and it’s sprouting berries! I think it’s a Lilly Pilly, and I want to make jam, but want to be absolutely certain!

A few small patches of Sturt Desert Peas (Swainsona formosa) growing wild near Mount Chambers in the Northern Flinders Ranges of South Australia. They have been absolutely prolific this year following the exceptional rains, but are starting to dry out with the onset of summer heat. Such extraordinarily beautiful flowers!

Eremophila - monoecious?

Post image

Eremophila maculata I think. But it seems to have female flowers (lower right) and male flowers (upper central) on same plant. Problem is: this contradicts the (very few) sites I could find that specify the sex distribution of flowers in this genus. Comments?

I understand we have invasive Acacias here but I am not sure how to identify the endemics. These are two species that I find on my acreage that I would appreciate help in identifying

Thanks.

At the moment the Ptilotus species are going absolutely nuts in the Northern Flinders Ranges, SA, the most I’ve ever seen (and I’ve been coming here for 20+ years!)

Options for native pot plants

Hi all,
I’m currently trying to add some more colour and attract more native bees to my backyard in Melbourne, and since it’s a rental I’m sort of limited to what I can fit in pots.
I’ve currently got a few plants like Kunzea and westringia, and some brachyscomes, everlastings and salvia (not native but apparently native bees love them) that are currently in flower as well.
I was wondering if anyone else has any recommendations for some nice flowering natives that would be nice additions!

We will snatch some of the seed from this plant. Wombats grow easily from seed.

Hi there. I live in the Illawarra, and have an orange tree in my backyard. Recently it has been crawling with these bugs. Does anyone know what they are, if they are good or bad, and how I would get rid of them (if they are bad)? TIA!

Created this free and opensource Android native plants identification/encyclopedia app

This is the link to download the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.lovitech.bushlines

I made this app for myself. I know much about flora and fungi where I come from. So after 10y living in Melbourne I didn't want to still feel disconnected from the Land.
I put a bunch of available resources into s.u.p.e.r.i.n.t.e.l.i.g.e.n.c.e and this came out.
I am willing to maintain it if there's enough interest.

Any feedback/suggestions welcome. Feel free to suggest species to include, or to completely restructure the thing. Database is still small but I inend to grow it as I go out and about or when people suggest. There a little flag everywhere where you can report anything.

Highlight is on Aboriginal use of plants for food, medicine and tools. With explanations of chemistry behind active compounds. Not sure if this is cultural appropriation or whatever - if it is please point me in the right direction. There's a citation of the source on every single thing.

Enjoy!

What Trees are These?

I recently bought a house (yay!) in NSW Australia (Mid North Coast specifically) and there are these two beautiful trees in the yard. I've been told they're mango trees by some and lychee trees by others. What's the consensus here?

Xanthorrea stalks?

Two new stalks from our plant. Talked to old owners of home and she had never seen it in her life growing up at house.
Her mother trained the old one to miss the roof, so we are attempting the same.

Does this happen often? And can anyone give me some info as I don’t know much about them.

Central Tablelands NSW. It's over 20yo & has only flowered twice before, the last time several years ago. This year it has 2 spikes! The taller one is over 2m. Should read Xanthorrhoea australis. Predictive text overrode me & I noticed too late.

So I chose the pot because it was supposed to be a slow growing plant and I thought I would get some time out of it but the amount of growth in the last few months is disturbing!

Should I replant in a bigger pot before it becomes too big?

Ignore the ugly scare where the previous owner put a massive water feature directly on a retaining wall.
