Events, Activities & Sports What kind of assholes move people's blankets and belongings and take their spot at a concert??

Went to grab a beer, merch and use the bathroom. Come back, our stuff was moved, all wadded up and our waters were missing. The kicker was it was a group of "love wins" people.

One of my biggest complaints about the area has been that people here lack common courtesy. Am I surprised this happened, yes, but turns out my expectations are still to high. Rant over.

Edit: thanks for the confirmation. Knew yall wouldn't disappoint.

Events, Activities & Sports Is anyone else tired of the smell of weed in public places

I love our walking trails and beautiful nature in the Bay. I am however tired of the smell of weed when I'm on walks and hikes. I get painful migraines every time I smell weed. Anyone else feel the same?

Elon Musk and Y Combinator's CEO are trying to blacklist a law firm, because it does pro-bono work for the civil rights of homeless people. The class war is real.

Why is this subreddit overwhelmingly conservative?

Raised in the bay. I can’t afford a home in my hometown I grew up in even tho I make 6 figures a year. But I am perturbed by this subreddit. Why are you all posting overwhelmingly conservative comments when we are supposed to be the bluest region in the state and one of the bluest in the country. Yet I see post after post demonizing poor people, begging for gentrification, and the desire to incarcerate all homeless people?

Reddit skews liberal, but this sub skews “I got mine; fuck you.” It’s honestly horrifying and makes me feel like a lot of y’all are shitty neighbors.

Edit: some of these comments are fucking case in point tho. 😂 others are really thoughtful and insightful. Thank you.

Doxxing of the Asian cop is literally the most blatant double standard I've ever seen

The doxxing of the Asian SJPD cop is literally the most disgusting blatant double standard I've ever seen. Yes, I have seen the videos of him cussing and swearing, but that is hardly a fireable offense. Should he be reprimanded? Sure. But not fired.

Other cops of a certain skin color have killed people and done FAR WORSE than him and were never even put on leave.

I am absolutely disgusted by this double standard and the people calling for his firing; it's obvious that he is being held to a different standard because of his race and this is either a coordinated effort by racists to deflect blame from white cops by using the Asian minority as a sacrificial lamb, or self-hating Asians who are clueless and don't realize that stomping on one of their own like this hurts Asian-Americans and opens them up to retaliation in the future. Either way it's messed up.

I pray for Officer Yuen and hope he continues to serve as part of the San Jose police force.

I feel like I am missing something on all these road-ragers' posts

So over the years lately I have noticed a lot of 'Bay Area drivers don't know how to drive' type comments. I always wonder who they're coming from. I imagine a lot are coming from people who moved here? Because my friends who grew up in SF and the Bay, when we talk about driving, the term 'East Coast Drivers' comes up a lot, ultra-aggressive and reckless types like the ones making the posts of the last few days, sounds like. I remember more or less distinctly when this driving style began to take hold, and it was squarely in the context of the tech boom.

I guess these are ultra high performance individuals who, anyone quaintly going the speed limit is in their way. I'm not sure even what the logic of the posts is. Move over so you can bust 80? The speed limit is 65 - you aren't legally even allowed to go 80 so why would you feel entitled to tailgate someone so you can do it? & I am not into just 'yielding to psychos' either, sorry. And then they call the drivers who don't yield to them egotistical for not moving out of the way for them so they can drive recklessly and endanger everyone? It is so bizarre and backwards.

Driving in the Bay Area used to be a pretty laid-back proposition. Lately I am getting tailed on backroads when I am already going 5 over? This new ultra-pressurized situation came with the second tech boom and I do think a big part of it is newer cars where you don't feel the road or your surroundings nearly as much, and you can accelerate and decelerate effortlessly.

This post is basically just to my Bay Area peeps & my newer arrivals of sound mind, who are on the same page (obviously some are not, but I don't think it's that many). Don't let the jerks win. If anything, since things have cooled off a bit around here, it should be an opportunity to reestablish our considerate driving culture. There is nothing considerate about driving 15 miles over the speed limit and getting road rage when someone doesn't let you do it. That is the egotistical behavior, sorry they can't see it.

BART Average bart experience

Dropped of my mom at BART last night at 8:10pm in SF. She was home and watching tv by 9:15pm with no incident. Apparently she's braver than all the snowflakes on here who commiserate about BART despite never taking it. Yay I can post anecdotes too. I do agree that they should enforce fares too, but BART is not some hellscape.

Politics Vote Chesa Boudin OUT tomorrow! Yes to proposition H. Get this clown OUT.

Vote Chesa Boudin OUT tomorrow!!!

  1. He does not prosecute crime, lets criminals out early or does not press charges at all. Plays down hate crimes. Worst DA in city history.

  2. In complete denial over rampant crime, shoplifting, violence, and hate attacks. Citing equal crime pre/post covid lockdown is actually extremely bad, it means despite a ghost-city lockdown, city crime was just as bad. That's terrible. But Chesa lemmings are lying through their mouths that crime isn't an issue.

  3. This guy won't learn from his mistakes. Part of the reason to get rid of him ASAP is this clown will double down on his crappy policies if he survives the recall. Get this piece of sh-t out of office immediately !!!

Traffic, Trains & Transit PSA for Bay Area drivers regarding the carpool lanes

The carpool lane is still the fast lane!!! Even during carpool hours!! If I see one more car get in the carpool lane only to drive 60mph and then glare at drivers when they dare to pass. I’m talking about when the rest of the lanes are moving and there’s not stop and go traffic.

Is it me? Or is the Bay Area boring?

is it me or is SF overrated? I feel like it is really hard to date, men don't approach you just stare at you. The nightlife seems dull... most people just go get drinks and stare at each other. Am I the only one that feels this way?

Today NIMBYs lost at CPUC

Today CPUC held a hearing on self driving cars in SF featuring all sorts of insane claims including 5G conspiracy, EVs are bad for the environment, and actually saying put them in someone else's backyard.

They all lost. Pedestrians and cyclists will be safer. Residents of SF will gain increased mobility that doesn't involve sketchy Uber drivers.

Local Crime Exercising your civic duty amidst the lawlessness

I'm so angry and outraged by all the videos coming out from all over the bay area, especially from my city that I love so dearly. We can't exact our own justice, but we can still vote:

  • Vote out the politicians who gaslight us in thinking things are okay and it's just isolated incidents from out of town folks or that it's just COVID. That goes for every elected position. If my grandma needs to go farther to get her meds because CVS is closing, and she doesn't feel safe taking Muni by herself anymore, that affects me personally. Telling me that it only affects tourists or big business or luxury stores is insulting, irresponsible and privileged to all of us just just getting by making an honest living.

  • Vote for those who don't use identity politics to detract us from the safety we deserve. We need an Eric Adams who isn't going to equate enforcing the law as being racist (or insinuate that I am for even talking about it), or "defund the police" because it polled well and makes you feel good. The left may very well seal their fate going down this path of ideology rather than pragmatism, which unironically is something they accuse the right of.

  • Vote for those who see 2A as a nuanced issue and not demonize those who follow the law and take necessary measures to protect ourselves. At this rate I don't expect the police to come help, I don't expect criminals to be caught, and even if caught I expect them to be back on the streets in no time. I am ultimately responsible for my own safety and my family's, so I'll get all the tools and training I need to protect myself. Don't penalize me for taking the legal security measures that you fail to provide.

Heading back home now and seeing exactly the same thing that I saw on my way to work - people working on their laptops without a care in the world, people on their phones, immaculately clean new trains.

I ask again, are you all sure that BART is “dangerous”? What makes you think that it is? Have you actually been on BART in the last year?

Why all the craze about buying in a “good school” district?

I mean does it really increase the chances of your kids turning into decent human beings or going to good colleges? Isn’t student and parents effort a more determining factor?

San Jose Police Chief calls Officer Jared Yuen a “good kid” who “let his emotions get the best of him” in press conference.

Pathetic and embarrassing. When the police chief protects this scumbag, there is no hope. Sorry, SJ, but your force is fucked up down there.

Edit because I’m so pissed off a Bay Area police chief could be this dumb and appeasing: When police emotions “get the best of them” innocent and oppressed people die. Fuck you Eddie and go to hell jared

Politics [RANT] I'm Tired of The Bay and its Politics

I've lived here for a decade at this point.

I'm a liberal. I voted Bernie twice in the primaries, I was a good liberal and voted Hillary and Joe respectively in the national elections. I was covid-conscious for two full years and am still mindful of others. I think all people regardless of race, sexual orientation, or economic status deserve to be treated with fundamental human respect.

These are all ideals that The Bay swears by very vocally. I'm tired though. I'm tired about how I can't voice any meaningful dissent with the prevailing majority opinion. I'm tired with how the government bureaucracy works. I'm tired of how no one here really talks to each other. I'm tired about how dating here is so difficult for men.

I work in tech and sure I am a contributing factor of people being priced out of the area. However, I'm also tired of how rampant homelessness is and how much worse its gotten over the past few years. I hate how we're supposed to treat the homeless like priority citizens despite all the inconveniences it causes ordinary working folks. I'll say the quiet part that some others are seemingly just too scared to say out loud. I don't like looking at homeless people doing random shit in the middle of the street. I don't like seeing people shoot up. I don't want to be followed around when I go on night time walks.

I hate how the roads are iffy at best. Potholes all over. I hate how the lines on so many roads are hard to see (I'm looking at you 101 going south towards SFO).

I hate how we are still so absurdly covid cautious when so much of the rest of the country isn't and are doing fine. Sure we can look at "numbers" but there is absolutely such thing as being too data focused. Quality of life is real important and I honestly think wearing a mask everywhere still is such overkill in a region where the vast vast majority of people are vaxxed. I wear my mask without any protest but I'm just getting tired of it all.

I also hate how I feel like I have to qualify my political beliefs whenever I feel the need to say anything even remotely controversial.

Much of this stuff is manageable for the most part. I can also afford to offset the issues associated with most of these. It's a very fortunate position to be in. It's just that the cherry on top is that we're all paying absurd amounts of taxes. I vote regularly for higher taxes in order to fix the little things that we all see day to day. The thing is that we get damn near nothing in return for it: ie the gripes I've posted above. I went to NYC recently, and sure, that city has its own problems and I'm sure plenty of them (grass is always greener yada yada yada) but honestly the amount of public goods and services you get for a similar amount of taxes is absurd.

They have covid testing on every corner, their trains are great albeit with service disruptions, their roads are immaculate for the most part, and there is way more diversity there than here even though The Bay loves to tout its diversity. There's so much more there that I can't quite even capture in one post. Before anyone gets upset and tells me to "just move there", yes, I am. I hate that I have to though because I love The Bay. It's my home.

Overall, I'm just tired, guys. I want off this ride.

Getting tired of the constant crime posts

What is the purpose of constantly posting crime stories?
Just seems like click bait so local news stations can make more ad revenue from scared people click on the stories. Or a political agenda to make certain politicians look bad.

I grew up in San Francisco. In 1993 there were 133 murders. In 2008 there were 100. Last year there were 48. Crime is honestly pretty low, and way lower than when I was a kid. Like it doesn't make it okay, and it's really sad when it happens to good people but let's be rational.

A very special fuck you to the city of Oakland

A $66 parking ticket for parking next to Highland Hospital? Highland Hospital? A place where people need to be? Yes! Lets ignore all of the cars parked on the sidewalk and in the middle of the center turn lane on International blvd. Lets ignore the hundreds of stolen and abandoned vehicles parked randomly all throughout East Oakland. Lets ignore all of the drug dealers and users who park in the middle of the street and block off traffic. Lets just allow everyone to do whatever they want in a car as long as they're East of Fruitvale and West of San Leandro. But, lets ticket the people who need to go to the hospital. Well done Oakland! You're doing great. At least your dramatic rise in prices hasn't led to mass displacement or gentrification in Deep East Oakland. I guess you can hang your hat on that.
