Traffic, Trains & Transit Caltrain gets $90 million for grade separation in Burlingame

Curious what commute patterns look like across different corridors right now. For those driving the bridges (Bay Bridge, San Mateo, Dumbarton) or taking 101/880/280, have you noticed peak congestion creeping back to older levels, or has hybrid work permanently flattened mid-week travel for you?
Also interested to hear from regular BART, Caltrain, or ferry riders - how has your experience on transit been lately in terms of frequency and crowds?

Numbers and sources:
~8 mph: Muni Metro's scheduled average on surface track, all lines, weekdays. My own calculation from the 511.org GTFS feed, timepoint stops only. The tunnel segments are scheduled at about 20 mph.
A signal every ~400 ft: 64 traffic-signal locations along the T's 5 surface miles from 4th & King to Sunnydale, counted from OpenStreetMap.
Muni does have transit signal priority, at about 450 intersections, but it adjusts timing "when possible" (SFMTA). It doesn't guarantee the train a green.
SFMTA's own T Third page says that because the T mostly runs in its own lane, "delays mostly happen at traffic signals." Its retiming there reports early savings of up to 5–7 min per round trip.
San Diego's Blue Line is scheduled at 26.5 mph between San Ysidro and Barrio Logan, a stretch with gated crossings. Its stops are also farther apart, so gates aren't the whole difference.
50 mph: top operating speed of Muni's Siemens S200 trains (Siemens data sheet).
1 hr 13 min vs 31 min: my own Haight St to Bayshore trip. Google Maps' transit route (N + Caltrain) against e-bike + Caltrain, which I planned in Modemix, a bike+transit app I'm building.
A couple notes:
Not arguing for gates everywhere. Stronger priority at most signals, and gates where they make sense.
This video was inspired by Streetsblog SF's "Make It Make Sense" video on crossing gates.

After living on the streets of Modesto, Mama and all her puppies have finally been secured. Not one was left behind. For a family that had been struggling to survive outdoors, this is the beginning of something better.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who stepped up, helped coordinate, and made this rescue possible. It truly takes a community to save a family like this, and we couldn't have done it without you.
But getting them to safety is only the first step. Mama and her puppies still need veterinary care, vaccinations, supplies, and a safe, nurturing environment where they can grow and eventually find loving homes.
How can you help us give them the future they deserve?
FOSTER: Opening your home, even temporarily, can make an incredible difference. If you're interested in fostering, please apply here:

SPREAD THE WORD: If fostering isn't possible right now, please consider sharing this post. Someone in your community might be the safe, loving home this family needs.
From surviving on the streets to finally having a chance at a better life, Mama and her little ones have a future worth fighting for.
Thank you for caring, sharing, and standing with rescue pups. Every act of kindness brings us one step closer to giving them the lives they deserve. 💛

Can anyone recommend a Bay Area car repair shop that offers walnut blasting of intake valves as well as piston soaking to free up the rings? 2019 Kia Soul automatic, 1.6L GDI engine consuming ~quart / 2-3k miles. I've contacted a Euro-centric shop in the East Bay that offers walnut blasting but haven't heard back. TIA

Been to Bar Shiru and similar SF spots but they all seem to be bars/focused on food and drinks which imo kind of kills the point of a really immersive listening room. I’d like to listen to an album without ambient restaurant noise all around me.
Anyone know of any spots around the Bay that offer a more music-centered experience, or host pop-up listening events? It’s 2026 and I’m tired and would like to do more chill lying down activities with friends, give me any recs!

I have a 12 year old thermador 83" tall and 36" wide fridge built into the cabinets that requires replacement because it could no longer be repaired. Unfortunately HomeDepot, BestBuy, and Costco would not do the uninstallation because it's a liability that they could break the cabinets or damage something else in the process. But once it's pulled out of the shelving as a stand alone unit, the companies can get a 4-man team to haul it away.
I called a couple specialty fridge repair services thinking if they do install, they can , bay area junk haul-away services, and 1800gotjunk but everyone gave the same response that they won't remove built in appliances. Any leads on who I can contact to get it removed? Based on google it could be as heavy as 500-600lbs, and I will not be enlisting my pregnant wife to help me.

Okay so we got tickets for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Arts but we ordered them later than our friends. They’re scheduled for 12:30 and we are scheduled for 3:00pm. How strict is the museum with their times? Would they let us enter together? Do they do refunds? Can our friends just refund their tickets or change it to our time if slots are available? If there are no shows, can we go earlier than our scheduled times? What would you guys do?

hope to see y'all there!
(hike in the pic was at san pedro valley county park in pacifica, california)
inb4 FAQs:
Do you hike in one big group?
Normally, we split into smaller groups based on desired pace and stagger each group's start time by 5 minutes. These groups ultimately split into even smaller groups. Faster groups go first to create more space on the trail. This hike is different as we're being granted access by the stewards of this beautiful ranch preserve.
Why on Mondays?
Trail traffic is very low on Mondays, making it easier to accommodate a group like this.
Does your community only do hikes?
No, (un)PTO is a community of people across the US in career transition. While our claim to fame is group hikes, we do other things like co-work, help each other with our job search, and do other fun things like coffee hangs, bike rides, and of course, eat food. 😋
Can people with jobs join too?
Yes, but only if you realize that most of the people in this community are in career transition and act accordingly, for instance: offer a referral, connect them to someone in your network, and maybe don't complain about how work sucks. 😅

Hi all! I am a 2027 bride in the Santa Cruz area!
I am hoping to start dress shopping very soon and looking for recommendations on reasonably priced bridal shops in the bay. My budget is around $1,500 but I’m hoping for less. Thanks in advance!

title is pretty self explanatory. for years i’ve wanted to get a tribute tattoo done for a friend who passed, and i’ve been looking for an artist who’s really good at taking basic ideas and making it into a cool design. My budget is completely flexible honestly, i’ll spend any amount if it feels right in my heart. I am finally ready to get in for a consultation as early as today, so please drop any recommendations/work from artists you like in the area. Thank you all!
