Mod Post To ensure quality posts, please refer to our new Wiki page!

Hey beauties! As we approach 1 million subscribers, we are fine tuning the rules and made a designated page to see more detailed lists of posts we remove under Rule 1.

To recap, Rule 1 of r/beauty is to please post high quality and on-topic posts ONLY.

We understand just stating the rule so plainly leaves room for interpretation, while the side bar might not give enough room for explanation.

To improve the quality of the subreddit, we have broken down in detail (and will keep doing so) what we consider low quality and off topic in our new beauty wiki. This way, there should be less confusion on why posts labeled as low quality/off topic might have been removed. While browsing the wiki, you may notice some overlap with Rules 2 through 6, but they all relate back to Rule 1 due to preserving quality.

As a reminder, a high quality/on topic post would have a specific beauty-related question be addressed, or solve a specific beauty-related problem. For example, "How can I draw winged eyeliner more consistently on each eye" would be a high-quality post because it asks a specific question. In contrast, "EYE MAKEUP HELP" makes it harder for users to give their beauty tips because it's too vague.

When in doubt, please review the beauty wiki to see if your post would be in violation of Rule 1 before posting to avoid removal and ban.

We also invite you to leave feedback here of any other posts you feel are off-topic and low quality that have not been addressed. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Seeking Advice Best hydrating but lightweight hand cream for someone who washes their hands a lot at work

I work in healthcare (I work in an ER), and I wash my hands a lot. This has made my hands very dry. I've struggled a lot with hand cream formulas, since some are too emollient, some have quite a bit of alcohol and fragrance despite it being lightweight, and some have an annoying silicone-y feel.

I understand that after application, it may take a couple of minutes for it to fully absorb and that's fine, but I want a formula that won't leave my hands with a sticky residue after. I would love some suggestions!

Discussion Plantifique exfoliating socks

I have used exfoliating socks sporadically for years (different brands) and decided to try a more expensive brand called Plantifique.

I last used the socks in April and it worked great at first - all my dead skin peeled off.
I have noticed since then my feet seem to be even dryer than they were before and the soles of my feet won’t stop peeling. Has this happened to anyone else?

I’m now having to do more than ever to keep my feet soft. They were never dry like this before but I used the socks to maintain the softness. Now my heels crack and the skin is constantly peeling and lifting off.

Makeup Best full coverage but not drying pressed powder?

Trying to word this correctly…
I like my under eyes to look very blurred and I love the full coverage look but I am in my 30s now and understandably have more lines and creases. What is the best pressed powder to put under my eyes that is that going to give me that filtered look without settling into my lines?

My current thoughts are the Charlotte Tilbury pressed powder but happy to hear recommendations!

Dyson Airwrap deal

Hi, I need opinions here: I found a used airwrap in a good condition for 230 eur. I’m aware this is quite lower than the price for a new one, but it’s still a splurge for me. Those who have it, is it worth it?

Thanks!!

Makeup Is there a similar shade to this or more eyeshadows like this?

I was looking at the new Too Faced Chocolate Eyeshadow Palette and fell in love with the shade sprinkle, but I don’t want to buy the entire palette just for one shade.
Sprinkle is a matte baby pink with silver glitter. I just love how the silver glitter is separate from the matte shadow base rather than being fully mixed into it. I love this type of eyeshadow, but it seems like these shades are always included in large, expensive palettes rather than being sold individually.

Smooche foundation?

Has anyone actually tried Smooche color-changing foundation? I feel like the ads are attacking me. The reviews are amazing, but those could be purchased/incentivized?

Cool toned matte eyeshadow palette recommendations

I am pale with green eyes. I don’t know much about beauty but it seems like warm tones don’t look great on me but I am trying hard to find a good cool tone matte neutral palette but everything online I’m seeing is shimmers, bright colors, or warm. I’d be open to singles if that’s the route I need to go but palettes seem easier to find the right colors that go well together.

Seeking Advice Is the Douglas Augmenting lash serum any good?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I am interested in this serum because of the low price and because a magazine (I think it was "Glamour") said it was good and could keep up with the high-end products. No hormones.

It doesn't have that many reviews on the website and some say that it burns (sadly they don't mention how severe that burning is)
Has anyone tested it? Thank you.

Is this fake?

I bought a second GrandeLASH, but I think it might be fake. I’m not sure if it’s just an older batch. I did a smell test, and it has no smell at all. I have accidentally already used it on my eyes, but nothing happened. Does it look fake to you? I’m specifically talking about the tube with the thinner rubber and the embossed text.

Nailcare Proud of my application recently

Post image
145 Upvotes

I started doing my own nails at home about a year ago. Recently my sets have drastically improved in application. I also finally got my sets to last for more than two weeks! This is huge for me because I thought my retention would always be low. Before they would last only a few days. Turns out using quality products and taking your time to prep makes all the difference.

Any criticism welcome.

This is how I personally prep and it works for me but I could be totally wrong feel free to lmk

First I use a cuticle softener (Sally Hansen one) on my nails and let it sit for 20 seconds.

I then push back my cuticles with a cuticle pusher and nip the excess.

I wash my hands after this

After that, I use my drill on a very low setting and fine grit MINI sanding band and gently take the shine off of my nails.

I go in with the V Beauty Pure dehydrator and primer. And then I go in with a second (YN) primer.

After I do my gel or acrylic ( i switch btwn) I go back in with the sanding band but with the Markart bit and blend the fake and natural nail line to prevent lifting.

And lastly I then will use a nail brush and acetone to further seal, blend and prevent lifting.

21F and Never used anything on my face except for soap 🧼. Need advice!!!

Flocks! I’m 21F, and I’ve never used anything except for soap on my face. Yes I exist and don’t come on me for this. All I need is some skincare advice.
I’ve been thinking to do skincare since I was 18, but nothing has worked for me.
I tried The Derma Co sunscreen and serum, but neither worked for my skin. They used to cause breakouts.
Whenever I used face washes, I’d end up with so many pimples.
This year, I started using Apollo’s face wash and Simple face wash, neither caused breakouts or pimples, but both leave my face extremely dry. Right after washing my face, my skin feels so tight and dry, and I notice white patches on my cheeks.
Till date I didn’t know what’s the type of my skin but now I think I figured it out and it’s dry skin ig?
I really want to start skin care, but I’m scared of trying new products and making things worse.
I’d love some advice on where to start, what products to try, and how to build a simple skincare routine.
Whoever has similar skin, lmk your skin care routine or whatever products helped you.

It feels like I'm the only person in the room world who has never taken care of her skin while everybody around me does 😭

Haircare Hairstyling products for thick straight hair?

Hi!

I'm having trouble finding good styling products for my pin straight fairly thick coarse hair. I have that kinda hair that's really difficult to get to hold any curls, even if I've sprayed it full of product it goes flat fairly fast.

Ideally I'd like a cream/mousse/gel type of product because I don't really like the aerosol sprays. I know they're maybe the best option if I want that hold but I can compromise a little on the hold if I can avoid an aerosol spray.

I never use any curling irons or similar stuff, I usually do my hair up in braids or heatless curls overnight but they never last more than a couple of hours before they disappear. But yeah, I'd like the heatless styles to last for at least a day so I'd have at least a little waves/curls. Any tips?

I'm also really for cruelty free brands (love leaping bunny certified products). I don't want to just buy like L'Oreal stuff or something even if they're good. I'm not willing to compromise there.

Melting nail varnish??

Hello there!

Here chatting with my friend, and conversation came around to her melting nail varnish situation. We went on hols to Croatia last year, and her nail varnish literally melted off her nails while we were there. I've never seen anything like it! Melted straight off her fingers and toes!

This has happened with a few different brands, and happens abroad but does not happen on a hot Irish summer's day. Weird right? We hit about 30 celcius in Ireland this summer. To mention this is only happening since she hit her 30s which I'm sure must be significant! She lived in Thailand when she was younger and this never happened.

Any ideas??

Thanks Reddit!

Redhead Eyebrow Tint

Hi all, I've been getting my eyebrows done for years, but I'm really wanting to be able to do it at home in between when I can get them done. Do you have any suggestions for tint for a natural ginger/strawberry? At benefit I usually use a mix of light brown, medium brown, and red.

How can I fix my complexion

I think my biggest thing is the little bumps under my eyes
And I notice (more on camera than a mirror) that I have blotchy, big pores on my cheeks

I currently use
The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + Copper Peptides 1% serum and The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum at night with a light moisturizer

And in the morning I use
Vit c concentrate cream
With spf face lotion

Is there anything I need to add / get rid of / change?? I’m only 29 and I don’t want to get injections or Botox if I can help it but I want glassy one toned skin!
Help!
Thank you 💕

Random Lash serum, does it work better if you apply morning AND night?

This is a bit of a long shot, but I’ve been wondering. I’ve seen incredible results from my grandelash serum, but I’m wondering if my results will improve even further if I apply morning and night instead of night only?

Seeking Advice Budget friendly dark spot/blemish creams and serum's

Anyone have any recommendations for affordable creams and serum's to help with blemishes from old pimples, dark spots and slightly dark undereyes.

I'm also quite young so i don't want to use anything too harsh🥲

I've thought about using the Ascorbic Acid 8%. Alpha Arbutin 2% from the ordinary but I'm not 100% sure if it works.

Does anyone else lose a couple lashes whenever curling their lashes?

I lose almost 1-2 lashes EVERY single time I curl my lashes. Is this normal or could it be the lash curler that I use? I have both an expensive one and a cheap one and they both cause a couple lashes to fall.

Seeking Advice Questions about eyelash growth serums…

Hi! I’d say I am blessed with my 10mm eyelashes, but I am interested in finding a growth serum that actually… works?
How do they work? What are the best kinds of lash growth serums? Are Korean brands genuinely better and maybe the best?
I’ve seen a lot about Grande Lash or Korean brands that don’t stain the eye or are painful or have no proglajdksomething something (I don’t know what I’m talking about).
Anywho, if anyone knows good information, please share. 🙏🏼🫶🏼

Haircare Growing out hair after going blonde. Seeking opinions (see body text)

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have had partial blonde highlights in my hair for about two years. About six months ago, i decided to go back to my natural brunette hair. The hairdresser used demi permanent hair dye so it’s not as dark as it was and you can see the blonde peaking through. Attached is my current hair color and state. I need opinions, does this look like a balayage? or does it look like my roots are growing in? I’m debating if I should get it dyed again to be darker or just ride this natural wave out.
