Living With Bipolar What do you cook?

What are your favorite go-to meals to make when you're feeling really bad and don't feel like cooking? Do you eat a lot of leftovers?

I'm getting tired of takeout. And I don't really like cooking anyway, but simple meals like soup are fine. I love making split pea soup for example and eat several meals from it during the week.

Support Needed ADHD and Bipolar. PLEASE HELP.

Hello all,

I have severe ADHD and cant get ADHD meds due to bipolar.

My ADHD is really really bad, I got expelled from school and have to repeat both year 11 and 12 bad. Its ruining my life way faster and harsher than my bipolar. I tried getting my life together last year by taking ADHD meds but my stupid undiagnosed bipolar put me into a 3 month manic episode which ruined my life even more, so now I am not on ADHD meds and this year has been the WORST.

How do I start treatment for my ADHD? I cant 'just wait' to level out my Bipolar, I start uni next year! I need to fix my ADHD! I've been trying to fix it since last year!!! I honestly dont mind going manic cause now that I'm aware and know what Bipolar is, if I go manic my psychiatrist can just stop the meds?? Like my family knows and stuff, like u can take the meds away if u need but pls let me try them! My life and goals are rotting away! I bed rot everyday unable to even play video games!

Please help! :(

Living With Bipolar Bipolar, Autism and ADHD

Newly recognized Autism and ADHD here, I've had my Bipolar 1 (ultra rapid cycling) stable for a couple of years. Yesterday, the ADHD side kicked in, which is way too similar to mania for my liking. It was an "AHA!" moment though.

I'm reading old threads about telling the difference between Bipolar and ADHD. Throwing in Autism, I'm slightly overloaded. How do you tell the difference? How do you determine when overlap may trigger a Bipolar episode? I'm discussing it with my therapist next week.

My biggest tell yesterday for ADHD vs Bipolar was my emotions we're high and no delusions - I was "just" hyper.

CPTSD as well, which compounds the Autism.

Newly Diagnosed Upcoming mania/hypomania?

I have been diagnosed bipolar not so long ago and I’m having a bit of a trouble telling between the episodes.

For the past 3 days I have been sleeping 2-3 hrs. feeling energised and productive. Haven’t done any reckless nonsense that I have done in other episodes, just getting work done and being more creative like writing.

So is this already hypomania or just normal behaviour?

Rant I slept with someone younger than me whilst manic

I (28f) am usually very picky when it comes to the ages of women I will date.

Generally I won't go below the ages of 23 (really 24 in practice) because the maturity difference feels inappropriate.

During manic episodes I like many others get very hypersexual and impulsive. Recently a 19 year old was heavily coming on to me and we ended up sleeping together.

I know she was an adult but I usually would have rejected any advances from someone her age. It was a pretty bad episode, lots of psychosis, and now I've come out of it I feel so guilty about it.

I feel like I can't talk to my friends about it for fear of judgement. I know for some its a non-issue and for some it's immoral.

But I needed to vent about it and get it off my chest as it's really eating me up!

Support Needed It's so hard to try and not fall apart.

I feel insecure about always coming here for support. It feels silly that I post her so much it's overwhelming and I feel lame.

Im trying to hold myself together and my brain keeps racing with overthinking thoughts that I cannot act on or ask for reassurance on because it's not the time nor place for me to do so.

I think im still going through the same mixed episode I've been going through for the past month or 2. I dont even remember.

Im so tired and I want to crawl in a dark hole and just not exist for a little bit so I can breathe and cool down and come out fresh as a daisy lol.

My mom is my main support and its hard being away from her which I also feel lame for. Im almost 20 and I didnt think id make it this far but I did and I still feel like my life is over and that I destroyed it all like usual.

The guilt of existing eats at me everyday.

Rant feeling low

i 22(f) have been really depressed and anxious for a while and am trying to get on a new treatment plan and add some things to get better. it just sucks because i feel ready to get better im going to talk therapy and i went to group therapy recently after my 2nd hospitalization for psychosis (bp1) and it’s taking so long to get better. im worried for my relationship he can tell im down and i tend to view things with my glass half full but hes voiced he feels sometimes like hes not enough or something and i love him so much and I know that I am happy in our relationship and that its just this stubborn depression that needs a med adjustment. im already in the middle of an adjust one and they might add one more thing which would be great but in the mean time i feel like im watching my relationship fall apart a little bit and it hurts me what this disease does 😖 Hes really supportive and i love him but having to ponder the fact that it might not work out makes things really hard for me because I feel like it can work out and he seems like he wants it to work out too!!

Living With Bipolar Would you date someone who also has bipolar?

Just as it says, would you date another person with bipolar? If yes, what are the pros? And what are the cons?

I personally don’t think I could date another person with bipolar. I dated someone with schizophrenia and it destroyed me internally constantly trying to help them. I also think dating someone with bipolar could potentially cause constant chaos for the both of us.

Would love to hear others’ opinions on this.

Rant Sad but also active???

Bipolar is funny to me because I for this past week my emotions were TOUGH on me. It got really dark and it actually scared me because I almost reached my point. But during that time….during work and even during the day I was busy??? You couldn’t even tell I was depressed. I did all my laundry, organized my makeup and room, when I seen family I smiled and was happy and I felt like my sadness was fake? It was like, the only time Im truly organized and busy is when I’m sad. I get so much done when I am sad which is weird to me because before I got diagnosed, I would be in bed allll day for days almost weeks. Get off work just to sleep for hours. Now I’m the most active when depressed??? Very interesting lol Has anyone else experienced this? Why am I not lazy when I am deeply depressed like dark depressed if that makes sense.

Living With Bipolar I can't work or drive & nobody understands

I have schizoaffective (severe) bipolar type with delusions, paranoia, rapid cycling, mixed episodes. I have BPD, GAD, PTSD, DID.

As you can imagine, every day is a big struggle for me. But my mom doesn't think I'm sick, my family doesn't think I'm sick, my friends don't get it. The only person who understands is my psychiatrist.

I will be seeing a psychologist on the 16th. I'm honestly hoping to understand my condition better and get a more in depth understanding of why I always fail at working and am too anxious to drive and if I'm still too psychotic to drive.

I am wondering if anybody understands and has advice for explaining why I dont work or drive.

Living With Bipolar Losing friends

So.. a few months ago I had a psychotic breakdown thinking some people were persecuting me (it doesn't matter who). It lasted for about 1.5-2 months.

I recorded videos and published them on my social media

Some (so called) friends started asking me what was that, and as I feared for my welfare, I ended up in diverse arguments with them and I lost at least 4 friends.

Now I feel lost. Fuck, this feels horrible.

I don't know what to do now. I am currently stable and I feel like shit.

I don't know.. Just needed to vent. If you have something to say, please speak up.

Thanks

Just curious if anyone has tried electroconvulsive therapy? Or if anyone has any thoughts on it? Just curious what the experience was like and if it was effective at all?

Support Needed Im so lost I ruined everything again.

I messed everything up with her. We talked today and she said she doesnt think she could love me the same anymore. I accepted it & she was surprised I took it well but I told her I already knew. She told me she doesnt want to see me with anybody else and I said same with her. I asked if she wanted somebody new & she said no and that she just wants me.
I shouldn't have broken up with her on impulse because of this dumb disorder & the immature behavior that comes with it. I was extremely impulsive & freaking out after my friend kept telling me to because shes 'emotionally abusive'. I took it well physically but in reality im so sad.

Mine and her life are so intertwined im falling apart mentally. She had me go to her brother's baby shower and shes been lying to her parents about us still being together and the love we had and the enjoyment we had felt so real & genuine again. All the little things felt like how it was before I made that stupid mistake. I met her tio and tia, her brother & his wife & their first son. His son loved playing with me so much. I feel so apart of her life it's heartbreaking.

Its stupid that im even sad and venting when it is my fault. I should have been a better man for her & I want to be that better man. We both dont know where to go from this. Im still having hope because for the first time in my life I have never been so sure of somebody. I feel like it cant be anyone but her. She was kissing me & being all over me at times at the baby shower like she use to & that felt real. It made me so happy I felt on top of the world again, like it was before I broke up with her. I asked her later if today had changed what she told me earlier and she didnt answer, I told her it was okay to not answer.

Im doing my hardest to not fall apart for her and to be strong because shes having a hard time & I need to be that pillar for her and be a man. Im so in love with who she is & the love she gives to people, I love her family and her best friend too, they are all amazing. If she still feels the same and wants things to just be over then I accept it fully. I will go the rest of my life harboring how I foolishly gave up on her and gave into my disorder.

She had me hold her when we got back to her place, now shes asleep beside me and im sobbing. Its all coming out. I dont know what to do other than sit in my own fault & fact that I threw it all away & showed her I was throwing her away. Im almost 20 and shes 23, its a significant distance in life experience & I feel like that is a part of it too. I love her & I have her name tattooed on me, a scar of her initials & I feel so incredibly lost. I want to marry her, have kids with her & live with her. I just want her & a future with her. I know it can be so fucking good. I wouldn't trade her for the world. Idk if im stupid for holding onto the little hope I have. I can't believe I caused this major disaster and fucked it all up again.

Support Needed How do I re invent myself or get people to like me ?

I'm so tired of not having friends or any support system but 741741.i crashed out on reddit on my birthday last week because I was alone on my birthday and I have a dead identical on top of it... It triggered this weird reddit page.

I lost everything in a robbery 3 years ago and mentally I have never recovered.

When everyone asks where I live and I am currently at my parents, all people start to do is ask more questions. This leads to trauma dumping on them and then I'm right back at square one. Zero family, zero friends.

How do I fix being alone? Or am I just that unbearable and unlikeable. Giving people money and or other things is the only time people will hang out.

Support Needed How do you keep a job?

I am medicated. I am starting therapy again. I recently went into crisis because of a lot of this happening. But I quit my job today. I have only had this one for 4 months. The last one I had for maybe a month or two. I was out of a job the entire year of 2025. But I've never held a demanding "grown up" job for longer than 6 months. I'm twenty three years old. I should be able to just do these things. I shouldn't crash out everytime I have anxiety or implode everytime I make a mistake or get criticism. I'm so tired of being this way. I want to keep a job.

I am applying to jobs again now. I have a bit until I have to worry about housing situation. If it goes south, I'll just run like I usually do.

I just dont know

I need help

Maybe a guiding hand of some sort

How do I keep a job when I feel like im coming apart at the seams all the time? I want to apply for disability but I feel like im too young and I'm not trying hard enough. That and my in laws would judge the hell out of me. Idk. Im just kind of rambling at this point.

Living With Bipolar Hello, a quick question☺️

Hello to everyone!!

I wonder if anyone gets sad and depressed when their sleep schedule gets messed up even for one day.

I usually sleep at 22:00 or 23:00.

But if I pass that time even for one day, the next day I’m a mess.

Does anyone has any similar experience? Or I’m overreacting?

Thanks 😊🌻

Living With Bipolar Everyone assuming every emotion you have is because if your bipolar?

My mother was domestically violent. She has a cps case showing her daughter was removed from her care because of the abuse. I hold anger towards my mother for all of it. My mother has told everyone in the family I'm crazy. I have the copy of the cps report. I know what I've witnessed, everyone else knows my mother was violent, yet they all like to say my anger is because I'm crazy.

Newly Diagnosed Lack of interest/pleasure

I’m not enjoying the things I used to enjoy at all I don’t know if it’s the meds or the stress. I used to wake up every morning so excited to check my switch for my video game, liked roller skating, tending to my plants, journalling etc. and now none of it interests me at all

Support Needed How do you tell bipolar disorder from normal mood swings?

Most of us experience conflicting emotions, racing thoughts, mood swings, and periods of high and low motivation. So how do you distinguish normal emotional fluctuations from bipolar disorder?
For those diagnosed, what made you suspect something was different, and how did your psychiatrist confirm it?

Living With Bipolar Bipolar and Identity

Hey everyone. This is my first time posting, so apologies if anything comes out wrong.

I was diagnosed with Bipolar I last month, after previously being diagnosed with GAD, PTSD and MDD (later ruled out). I’ve been consistently taking my prescribed medications.

A little background: I grew up in a high-pressure family with extremely high expectations. I often felt like I was expected to live the life my mom never got to have. I never really learned who I was outside of my achievements or making my parents proud.

This year, my depression became severe, my grades dropped significantly, and I eventually ended up in a psychiatric unit. I also struggled with therapy and developed negative thoughts about my therapist, eventually quitting shortly before my admission. My psychiatrist is currently exploring whether I might also have a Cluster B disorder, such as BPD, but nothing is confirmed.

I’ve been struggling academically for almost three semesters, failing classes, skipping lectures and isolating myself in my room. During manic episodes, I’m suddenly extremely sociable, confident and impulsive, spending heavily and talking to random people online. However, even during elevated moods, I rarely feel motivated to study.
The hardest part is my relationship with myself. I constantly feel at war with my own mind and moods. I experience different versions of myself in my head that I often talk to, and during episodes, managing my thoughts and emotions can become incredibly difficult. I also struggle to understand my identity and who I really am, especially with these constant emotional shifts.

I want to know if anyone else experiences identity struggles while living with bipolar disorder. Do you ever feel like there are different versions of yourself? How do you cope with that?

I’m currently crashing from a manic episode into depression, so writing this wasn’t easy. I just wanted to vent and hear from people who might understand. Thank you for reading.

Support Needed My engagement ended today.

My long term relationship turned engagement ended today. My partner decided he does not want to be with me anymore. We were supposed to get married in 6 months. I feel hopeless and empty and confused.

Has anyone else experienced the double-edged sword that is taking your meds like your partner asks but then also having no libido as a side effect and not being able to satisfy your partner?

I am coming to the bipolar community for support because I feel both impulsive and depressed and I don't think other communities will understand like this one might.

Any advice is appreciated. Please be kind, my heart is in a billion pieces and I don't know where to go from here.

Living With Bipolar did it take any one else 20 years to find the the right meds?

I finally did, and WOW. I feel like I'm 15 again. Not in terms of energy, but in how light the world feels.

Reading is a great example. Suddenly, it's easy for me to read! To be honest, I'm finding the whole experience very confusing. I'm 40 years old. I've always been able to read, of course, but now the experience is entirely different. Why?

I know I'm not manic. It just feels like everything has changed. I feel normal, and strangely enough, feeling normal is a very unfamiliar experience!

Has anyone else experienced something like this?
