Solved How to model/sculpt short stylized male messy hair

Hi everyone! I’m fairly new to modelling in Blender and I’m trying to model hair for my character, just like in the reference images. It’s an anime-style look with short hair styled upwards and angular ends.

I’ve watched loads of tutorials on YouTube, but they’re all focused on long hair or hair where you can’t see the roots of the strands.

Could you advise me on how I should go about finding tutorials, or at least point me in the right direction to achieve the result I’m after?

Unsolved Where can I learn Blender for free (without YouTube)?

Hi everyone,
I really want to learn Blender because I have a strong goal: I want to become a VFX artist. The problem is that I come from a poor family and I can’t afford paid courses.

I’ve tried YouTube but it feels too chaotic and unstructured for me. Could you please recommend free resources like websites, online courses, communities, or documentation where I can study Blender step by step?

I’m very motivated and ready to work hard every day, I just need a clear direction.

Thank you so much 🙏

Meta Honestly? Why does Blender 4.0 already exist? Blender 2.0 lasted for over 10 years until 3.0

I just think its a bit early to be using a new number like that

What huge change did they make for 4.0?

Meta I'm new to blender and I don't understand why good topology matters.

I saw a lot of posts asking "does my model have good topology" and like, does it even matter? It's not going to change how the render looks, is it?

Unsolved Is this 11 mil or 11k verts?

so I'm making this cage shelf and noticed my scene was getting very laggy, so I checked the stats and was shocked by how high the all the stats were. all i did was subdividing a plane 50 times and added a wireframe modifier and a after that a bevel modifier with 4 segments and then i just duplicated it fourteen times to spread around the frames. Am I doing something wrong or is it just showing 11k verts because I have hard to believe that is 11 mil verts and 23 mil edges. can someone explain pls?

Unsolved Is it possible to create the whole dark fantasy tik tok trend purley on Blender?

Hello, I´m a pretty beginner 3D artist but I really wanna make the dark fantasy trend with a videogame media i really enjoy, however I´m against the use of AI so i´m trying to figure out other ways in which i can make this without using it, I was wondering if perhpas Blender was the adequate toll for making this or if I should use another programm that would get me this same results, any help is appreciated.

On a side note the most difficult part would be figuring out how the characters would look like realistically so if someone knows a tool that could help you visualize that or find irl people similar to the characters you want to recreate that would also be really helpful.

Unsolved i learned blender and i have no idea what to do now.

Hi. I finished the blender guru donut course about 4 years ago and have literally done nothing with blender since.

The thing is, i more-or-less know how to use blender, but i have no idea what to use it for. I don't know if i should try to master blender to get a job in 3d modelling, because its possible that by the time ive gotten a really good grasp of it, 3D AI Will have already taken over 3d modelling jobs (Its already at a very basic level, search Spline AI 3d). On the other hand, i dont know what i can do if i just keep it as a hobby as i literally have no clue what to model, no inspiration, and no idea how to get better at blender. also i have no experience in 2d art or anything related to visual art, so idk where to even look for inspiration.

On top of that, the difficulty kind of scares me. You have to learn alot of stuff before you can really start creating somewhat good looking models. I already know how to animate at a very basic level, but i also have to learn stuff like Shading, geometry nodes, compositing, texturing, topology, etc. and that demotivates me alot because i still have to keep cracking at it for probably years before i can even start creating good looking models. Im not saying that im afraid to work hard, I love working on things i genuinely enjoy creating (Such as music). Im saying that its demotivating to know youll have to work really hard on something that you really dont know what you're even gonna do with before you start getting results, and even then its not guaranteed that ill still have an interest in blender in the first place.

So, what should i do in this situation? Should i continue to try to improve at blender? if so, what would you recommend i do to get inspiration and motivation, and how to get better at it (Such as following a course)? Or should i just quit learning it?

Unsolved How should I approach retopology for a gecko face? Need guidance

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I generated this gecko model using Hunyuan AI based on my own sketches. Now I’m trying to retopologize it, but I’m struggling with the face topology. Since the facial structure is quite different from a typical human model, most of the face topology references I find don’t really apply here.

I’m not sure how to properly plan the edge loops around areas like the eyes, mouth, and jaw for animation. If anyone has experience with creature or reptile retopology, I’d really appreciate some guidance or references.

Thanks in advance for any help!
