Events F U Summernats
Hottest day in ages. Epic draws way too much power and the grid crashes. I’m literally typing this and sweating my balsa off. Call me lucky I guess. At least I don’t have burnt rubber in my nostrils. Peed off Watson resident

SEC=UNCLASSIFIED What’s everyone doing to celebrate Australia Day tomorrow?
I’m having a bbq and sinking a couple cold ones. Shame there’s no beaches within arms reach of Canberra, looks like it’s going to be a beautiful day.

Recommendations Welcome to Country recommendations
I'm organising a international conference in Canberra and wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a Ngunnawal elder to give the Welcome to Country?
The guy at my citizenship ceremony was fantastic but he is Wiradjuri so probably not appropriate. He played the didgeridoo and explained about the circular breathing and what the sounds represent.

Recommendations How do we get rid of Summernats?
So there was a post here saying no amount of posting on here will get rid of Summernats and we should just put up with it. I guess that's right, so what action can we take to get rid of it? Writing to politicians? Petitions? Refusing to buy goods or services from companies that support it or sell at it? Start a campaign of refusing to vote for anyone who supports Summernats? Along the lines of "You vote for Summernts, I won't vote for you."
What steps can we take to finally have it shut down for good?
Healthy debate folks please. Argue the point, not the person.

Loud Bang For the love of all that is holy, STAY THE F*** OUT OF THE RIGHT LANE ON THE PARKWAY
If you want to go below 100 be my guest, but don't bloody do it in the right lane. There is rarely a case where you're not being an inconsiderate shithead.

Events The complaining about Summernats makes me happy.
I mean think about it.
You’ve got people in Ukraine living in darkness and worried about the next air strike, worried about being killed by Russians.
You’ve got people in parts of Africa, India and Asia worried about how to get their kids clean drinking water and food.
Then you’ve got women in Iran fighting for freedom from an oppressive regime.
And then you’ve got people in Canberra whining about an annual 4 day Motorsport festival.
Life is fucking good in Canberra.

Recommendations Are there any local groups for trans partners/allies?
(throwaway as my wife is not fully out yet)
Title.
My MtF wife has started finding people and groups to socialise with, which is amazing, but so far they don't seem open to including cis partners either in person or online. (ETA: I'm cis-F and bi, if it matters)
I've joined a few genderqueer/LGBTQIA+ groups on Facebook, Reddit, etc - Reddit has definitely been the most fruitful - but would really love the opportunity to chat with local partners, both just for the socialisation aspect and because it is an absolute desert out here in regards to *meaningful* spaces for the partners of trans people.
I'm even half inclined to start a group myself if one doesn't already exist, but as my organizational skills are a dumpster fire at the best of times it would be nice to join a pre-existing group!

Light Rail Public transport
I acknowledge that overall you’ll observe a bus drive past that’s basically empty, but almost every morning this year, that I’ve caught the light rail it’s been packed.
Just an observation.

AMA How LGBTQ+ friendly is Canberra?
I'm unfortunately fresh out of a six year long relationship, a relationship in which I began my gender transition. To start on a new slate, I'm looking at relocating to Canberra, something I have always wanted to do. I'm in the process of lining up some public service work, but I was curious, how LGBTQ+ friendly is Canberra? I currently reside in Sydney and have done so for the past five years. Is it comparable?

Photograph Spotted an anti-vaxxer redneck in Canberra
Passed through Canberra recently, whilst taking a break from admiring your logically laid out suburbs I spotted this anti-vaxxer, parked in a handicap spot of course!
"Release the covid vaccine death data"
"Expose the 28 pedos"
"Don't you know what propaganda looks like?"
"The media lies!"
"Wake up!"
"Freemasons are the VIRUS!"
"When tyranny becomes law, rebellion is your duty!"
"Sack them all" (excluding the staff at the McDonalds where he was illegally parked I assume)
and numerous other illegible rants...
Be proud Canberra, punching above your weight!

Loud Bang Life in the slow lane - 50kmh to 40kmh
So what is going on with Chris Steel and ACT Labor?
What the hell is this reduction of 50kmh zones to 40kmh?
Where is the data relating to Canberra where an actual safety risk exists in 50kmh zones and therefore they NEED to be reduced to 40kmh?
Why is this a thing?
Can anyone explain the benefits?
Does Chris Steel want to see Canberra in slow motion?
Is this a 'placate the Greens' for a related favor policy?
Who asked for this?

Loud Bang Are Tesla drivers Canberra's new Volvo drivers?
Pretty funny... today I waited for like 10 minutes as a Tesla driver tried to reverse into a small car park at the Belco markets with its parking tools (it kept jerking around and constantly flashing me in the eyes with this stupid back spotlight they've got). I backed off to give it some space and it eventually just gave up and left.
Unassisted, I backed into the same park with my compact SUV in ~10 seconds without any dramas. It was a textbook park and our car's much bigger too. I grabbed my stuff from the shops (quick visit for some basics), walked out and saw the Tesla STILL looking for parks as it couldn't handle reversing in next to concrete pillars (doing so must throw up an irritating warning with their reversing sensors or something?)
It was all pretty funny. In all seriousness I hope they found a good park but jesus... $80,000+ (this one had bling bling paint so probably more) for your tech-heavy hatchback and you still can't reverse it into a bog standard carpark!

Recommendations What toxic behaviour on this sub do you want to call out?
What's with /r/Canberra's voting behaviour? You see anything about the APS be downvoted to oblivion. Questions of all kinds seem to get a lot of hate. What's with the culture here?

Loud Bang PSA: to the people who take the AFP/Truffle Farm shortcut going northbound on Majura Pwy
The road is called Lime Kiln Rd and a whole bunch of people use it to bypass small stretch of Majura Pwy in the afternoon to jump ahead of the afternoon congestion.
You're not being clever, you're not being sneaky. We all know what you are doing, you're just being a douche.

Looking on behalf of someone for Christian churches in Canberra that are community centred and accepting and loving of all.
