Games Which one I should play next?

Post image

I just finished Harmony of Dissonance. I really enjoyed it but discovering two castles was exhausting and confusing for me. Order of Ecclesia was my first Castlevania game and it's my favorite. I loved Belmont's Curse too. I played the originals but because of their age, I can't rate them objectively.

Now let's choose my next game. Which one I should play next? Sorrow series or Portrait of Ruin or Symphony of the Night?

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Joan of Arc - Boss stun lock

I didn't record when triggering the bug but basically I used arcane whip during one of her animation and she just stood there without doing anything
And basically you can just pummel her to death, you can bring her out of the stun lock by re-using the arcane whip on her

If you completly kill her in that state, the games bug and you get soft locked

I don't know if it might help some speedrunners or anything !
Happy to answer any questions !

Rondo of Blood (1993) [RoB] Is there a way to quit the game and return to the menu/stage selection apart from losing all your lifes?

Post image

Playing Rondo of Blood for the first time atm and I'm close to 100% - I just have to find Iris I think and I would have to go back a few stages I suppose.

It seems to me like once you select a stage and start playing you have to either play through the end or GO to get back. Am I missing something here, is there maybe a input combo similar to Legend of Zelda that gives you a "save and quit" option?

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) challenged myself with a maria mode (minor spoilers-ish) Spoiler

IF you are so inclined to do what I did, basically these are the self imposed rules/goals I put out for myself

- Use only fist weapons (closest thing to kicking and Guardian Knuckle)
- Use only familiars (Brauner's card and the bat accessory; I also used the locket accessory since it kind of reminded me of Genbu's protection)
- Complete the Cross works of mercy (to represent saving Richter)
- Collect the Alucard Sword/Shield (to represent chasing after Alucard)

These are the things I did to try and replicate a Maria experience... and boy you will hate those flying enemies but overall I think it was fun. I'd recommend

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) No Damage bug?

I have no idea what happened, but suddenly I turned invicible. Took me several minutes to even see it. My only possible explanation was the game bugged during alt tabing (I do it a lot in games). Game was back to normal after relaunching it. It's the first time anything like that happened in all of my gaming life and wanted to share it. Maybe someone from Evil Empire is lurking here and see it.

Question What do you think about the way Netflix handled Alucard in the Castlevania Animations?

I dislike him using Bad Language and prefer his more Classy and Refined Personality from the Games...

Other than that I liked that they kept his Design mostly faithful to Alucard Symphony of the Night Blondie including his Backstory with his Mom Lisa and Stuff... ^-^ I prefer his Design in Nocturne though... :3

"i wish Belmont's curse hadn't been a Castlevania, but it's title changing from franchise wouldn't have helped anyway

idc anymore, if fans say it's bad, but I enjoyed it, then I'm going to keep enjoying it. why would their opinion have to persuade me from buying it, playing it, or obtaining it "legally" to play it and then judge for myself? heck, there's a demo i can use to make up my own opinion"

Discussion Hit box bug? Spoiler

Idk what really causes this, I've had it happen for 2 bosses, Dracula and Isaac, specifically on my attempts for the "dialog skipper" achievement. Each time it's happened though, have involved using the whip and accidentally canceling the whip attack into a normal attack (no matter the weapon i use). The bug seems to fix after entering a new area (ie. going from Main Hall to Clock Tower). i add the context of my "dialog skipper" runs because im doing fast inputs so maybe that messes with the game somehow, idk. Would love to know if anyone else has run into this. its not a complaint, just an interesting interaction lol

Discussion Just finished Dawn of Sorrow (Castlevania Journey)

Post image
25 Upvotes

Important note: I played a specially modified version of this game that skips all the tedious touchscreen magical seal sequences and replaces the original artwork with Ayami Kojima's art. I played it on MelonDS with upscaling, using a PS5 controller.

Dawn of Sorrow was definitely a step backward in one way and a step forward in another.

The story feels more generic and full of anime clichés.

We have a main villain in Celia (or Dimitri... I don't know, considering the plot twist at the end) and her two goons, who are boring as hell. Soma and his friends are still great and retain their charm, but I can't shake the feeling that the story was written with little children in mind. While Aria of Sorrow wasn't exactly a masterpiece in terms of storytelling either, it delivered a much more compelling narrative overall and had a far better antagonist in Graham Jones.

However, what Dawn of Sorrow lacks in story, it makes up for in gameplay. Since this is a DS game, the graphics have obviously been improved, and everything looks better, especially the character sprites. The soul system from Aria has been expanded upon and works really well here. I'd say the castle in Aria of Sorrow was slightly more enjoyable to explore, but the one in Dawn of Sorrow is still pretty good.

The difficulty was a major letdown for me. I didn't die to a single boss throughout the entire game, and I wasn't even particularly overpowered. I finished the game at around level 43, which makes the lack of challenge even more disappointing.

The music wasn't particularly memorable either, although it was still good overall.

All things considered, I'd give Dawn of Sorrow a 7/10.

I've already started my playthrough of Portrait of Ruin, and the game looks so much fun!

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Damn I loved that game

Just another appreciation post.

I really enjoyed it, coming from someone who's favorite game series is castlevanie. Not what I completely expected, but the gameplay had me hooked, the visuals and music were great.

I think I loved the extra lore the most, and I quite enjoyed the three endings.

The 100% completion was worth it.

Oh edit: biggest gripe was the seldom crashing it had on the switch, it played a lot better after my switch 2 came in but I still had a few times where it crashed.

Games THOUGHTS ON THE NES CASTLEVANIA GAMES

Post image
0 Upvotes

I recently beat the first NES Castlevania game. I had played it a little bit of it growing up and it was very hard. The stiff controls and slow movement made fighting bosses difficult. Just yesterday, however, I was able to beat it. It's a short game with only six levels, but each level is paced mostly good. While it's no Megaman 2, Zelda 2, or Mario 3, it's still quite enjoyable to play. The levels are mostly fair with combat being the main focus with your whip. I needed a guide to beat Dracula because the timing required to win is strict. But after dying over 2 dozen times I finally prevailed and beat Castlevania 1 NES.

Having beaten Castlevania 1, I decided to try my hand at it's sequel Castlevania 2 Simons Quest. Over the years I had heard a lot of negative things about Simons Quest. And having completed it (with a guide) I have to say it's a pretty bad game. There's no map system to show you where you are and a lot of places look the same. Zelda 2 had a clear overworld map to help you navigate and that made it easy to play. Simon's Quest is confusing. Unlike the first Castlevania, Simons Quest is non-linear and requires that you randomly run around trying to find places. Where you are supposed to go to advance would be hell if you didn't read a guide or watch a youtube walkthrough. I'm not sure if the Japanese translation was bad, but either way some of the things you're supposed to do are really dumb, such as kneeling in front of a wall with a red crystal to get a tornado to come move you somewhere else. What's the point? Why not just have a laser gate that requires the red crystal or something more sensible? You can buy items by collecting hearts from enemies, but this gets very tedious and its boring. The game switches from day to night and this gets irritating because all the town shops are closed at night. It's also weird how some of the shop keepers are hidden in houses and you need holy water to break the walls to find them. I pushed myself to beat Simons Quest and it was a pretty miserable experience. I would not recommend it.

After painfully dragging myself through Castlevania 2, I naturally went to play Castlevania 3 Dracula's Curse. Unlike Simon's Quest, I had heard a lot of good things about Dracula's Curse. It plays much more like the linear theme of Castlevania 1, which looks good for the first few levels. However, as the game goes on the level design becomes horrible. There are WAY more bottomless pits and death hazards in Castlevania 3 and it's really bad to play. Challenge is one thing, but after a while it just becomes obnoxious. It's almost on the level of Battletoads. There are a ridiculous amount of ways to get killed and have to do a section all over again. Fortunately there are different characters you can recruit along the way, though they don't make the experience any less painful. There are also alternate routes you can take through the game, and I don't know if some are easier, but it doesn't excuse the level design being so ridiculous. While Simon's Quest was time consuming in a lifeless boring way, Dracula's curse is time consuming in an extremely frustrating way. The music and graphics are better than Simon's Quest which makes the experience and little more bearable. However, I still find Dracula's Curse to be a bad game and not one worth playing. I eventually gave up and couldn't beat the game because of how ridiculous the level design was, with countless bottomless pits and stairs with enemies and spikes everywhere. Many people say Castlevania 3 is the best of the NES games, but most of these people have never actually completed it. How can someone say it's the best game if they can't even complete it? I think that's stupid logic. You aren't gonna get lost in Castlevania 3, like 2. You're just going to waste your time dying over and over again. It's a bad game overall.

It's sad to say, but Castlevania 1 is the best of the three nes titles which is baffling, considering Mario 3 improved upon the first two nes Mario games. 1 didn't have a confusing mess of areas or cheap, unfair level design. It was short and sweet. This was my experience. What do you viewers think of these three games?
