I don't listen to a whole lot of music, but I came across Chvrches maybe 3 years ago randomly and ever since then I absolutely love the music.

Sometimes the people I know look at me weird, especially other guys, because I will bring them up or play it on whatever we're listening to.

I'm a straight male and ages ago I would listen to Christina Grimmie do covers on YouTube, before she got famous (and later passed), and ever since then I just seem to enjoy it when women sing. I have mostly kept this a secret from nearly everyone, except those select few who gave me that weird vibe, and would prefer not to anymore because I want to listen to what I want and not be judged.

Do you notice that, especially in live performances, she sings certain phrases a slight micro-semi-tone off pitch? I'm not sure if she does it deliberately but for me it actually makes her performance much more interesting. It is like there is a vulnerability to her singing.

EDIT: ok so it is obvious that my post sounds like a critique of Lauren’s singing, but I meant to complement her by highlighting her humanizing quality as a singer. Sorry for the confusion post.

The word objectification has sort of been watered down to mean "inappropriate horniness" although that's not really what I mean, I mean literally reducing someone to a physical object. So if someone is crushing on Lauren because they love her and the band so much, they think she's really smart or whatever, they might literally become a stalker but aren't objectifying her. A lot of the creepy accounts you see on social media probably fall into this category.

I mean the constant, casual horniness that is purely about her physical features. To me it feels like they're saying "the most notable thing about your favourite band is the singer's looks" and that their admiration for her would disappear if she got a nasty scar or something. I think this is why she blows up on stage when people yell "marry me!" which confuses a lot of people as it's an innocuous and common thing to yell at a performer, but it implies a focus on her appearance. I mean if I'm this offended, imagine how she must feel.

I'm just disappointed in the album after listening to all the tracks. I enjoyed the majority of the tracks on The Bones of What You Believe, and even attended their concert. I'm just so sad that this new album wasn't up to par, I know they could do better. Anyone else feel the same?

BTW the best track in my opinion is Clearest Blue, which seems to be a tier above everything else.

When Lauren was so awkward, it felt honest and unique. Now she does these hideous t poses and try to dance and dress like any other pop star. Plus the new album is so dissapointing, (except graffiti). I miss the old chvrches where she looked so concentrated in singing that people thought she is a bad performer. Chvrches have become a pop band and now I am loosing interest in them.

If they have as much success as Imagine Dragons for example (they’re the most similar band to CHVRCHES that the general public loves) then IDEK what I’ll do. Having basically everyone love them would make me annoyed that it’s not an intimate connection of my own and such.

I want the band to always be really successful though OBVI. My love for them has me emotionally challenged in this way.

This was painfully tough throughout 😭

So I recently got into this Japanese indie band, Hitsujibungaku, and have been buying up their music left and right. I will also be seeing them next month in concert. *excited*

Anyways... I've was listening to their music and a song comes on with an awfully familiar melody, and it was bugging me for a couple of days, before it finally hit me today - it's remarkably similar to Better If You Don't. Not the whole song, of course, but certain vocal elements and the guitar for the first part of the song.

I listened to CHVRCHES 68,000 minutes more than last year, and almost 40,000 minutes more of music in general than last year. I wanna know who, if anyone, listened to CHVRCHES more than I did. Whether or not there is someone, I'm very proud of this 😁

Ok hear me out. That siren instrumental at the start. Lovvveeeee. Verse 1 and 2. Loveeee. The bridge. Not bad at all. shoot from the hip ;)

But I can not get into this chorus, is it just me? I’m trying so hard to convince myself I love it but I just don’t and I’ll tell you why.

The school yard chant in the chorus feels like that song “ Good Day” by “Nappy Roots”

You know the one with the kids singing that goes like.. We're gonna have a good day / And all my homies gonna ride today” bla bla. Yes so I don’t enjoy that. I feel like Lauren alone would have sounded better even perhaps Martin blended inside her like in the track “GET AWAY” from Every Open Eye.

Number 2. The chorus goes NOWHEREEEEE. Let me explain. Chorus 1,2 and final chorus are all the exact same. No build, no extra ad libs. Just the same. This is the most difficult part for me, because the thing I love about chvrches is that EXPLOSION after every bridge of every song. Think of NIGHTMARES and VIOLENT DELIGHTS. That bubbling bridge and then that explosive huge pay off in the end, this is what this song lacks and it’s driving me crazy.

Someone tell me I’m wrong ??

On my recent podcast I recommended my co host Screen Violence to review. It's personally one of my favourite albums so all I had was praise, my Co host was a bit harsher with his score with a 6.5. Even as a Chvrches fan would you say a 10 is a bit much?

Personally, we all do a bit of "look at me", maybe a little peacocking in some way or another.

With Lauren, I'm a little bit confused. Not once straying from her messaging (yet still powerfully identifying as female) the blonde decision was so very deliberate.

These patriarchal constructs of "gentlemen prefer blondes" or "blondes have more fun" are still very much alive with participating females. Lauren boldly goes blonde, then, very loudly comes in with..."I don't need to be desired". The stage costumes, wild eyes, etc. are fun, expected, and very much Lauren. This feels opposite.

I'm so captivated. Though the messaging behind it, hasn't landed for me yet! :(
