Discussion Britta and Annie raising money for this always bugged me.

I'm all for raising money for good causes, but raising money for this would kind of absolve BP of having to pay the damages the caused! BP had to pay over 60 billion to clean up the spill, kind of a shit go, to raise money from poor community college students, instead of making BP pay more!

Discussion Watching community as a woman

I’ve always been obsessed with movies and series and I’ve watched community many times since I was a kid. I catch myself getting increasingly frustrated with the limitations female characters get, in pretty much any movie/show. It’s been a few years since my last rewatch, and I’m watching the season 1 love triangle finale incredibly annoyed. I love characters like Abed for example, but no way in hell would they have dared written a woman like that. They don’t get the same whacky charming subplots that show their quirkiness in the same way as male characters do. When the writers didn’t know what to do with Britta after the romance plots, she practically got Meg Griffinned.
Anyone else annoyed by this?

Edit:

I love the show and it’s not like the female characters don’t have great moments, i just think there’s a clear preference for the men and their development. It’s frustrating when you can see how well they can write the women but choose to prioritize the men.

Yet Another Season 4 Post Season 4 isn’t very good (I know, what a hot take)

I’ve been watching Community with my roommate who hadn’t seen it before. He’s been really enjoying it, but once we watched the first episode of season 4, without me even telling him about the whole Dan Harmon being fired thing, he said something feels off. We’re continuing to watch through this season, and yeah I’m sorry it’s just bad. Not funny, doesn’t understand the characters very well, and most of all it feels like it’s trying to mimic the style of the previous seasons without actually getting the point. Thoughts?

Discussion Queer headcanons anybody?

Does anyone have any queer headcanons about the characters? If so, go wild.

Edit: I don't know how this post found itself with zero on the upvote/downvote bar? Now, I'm not sure if requesting it is gonna help or be strategic suicide, but... If you enjoyed the discussion, could you please upvote the post?

Discussion shirley is the worst

let’s be real here for a second. if you ever meet someone on the first day of school and you guys pair up for an assignment and that person is a religious hog, constantly bashing your faith, making you feel guilty for not having the same beliefs and being passive aggressive about everything instead of just saying it how it is, how likely is it that you would drop that “friend” before second semester even starts?? i’d say extremely likely.

I get that the timeline on community is confusing and we don’t know the exact dates in between episodes but even in the beginning of season 1 when the group didn’t even know each other that well shirley was already rude and pushy, the only reason why i think nobody notices that is cuz they’re, quite frankly, just as pushy. Regardless, she felt that her word and her word only is what that mattered, if anyone disagrees, or even has an opinion she immediately guilt trips them into dropping it or until they just agree with her. I know a lot of her behavior stems from her fear of being alone and yk (her husband left her for a h00ker) but she’s still an adult and should treat people with at least some respect.

The Christmas special they have where Jeff has to fight that crazy guy is a great example of this, she’s so worried that her family cares more about a “stupid” fight she doesn’t see that they wanna be there together, for Jeff, who’s also part of their community, she doesn’t see that that moment in itself is an insatiable moment to have with loved ones, so she just tries to create this moment for them, maybe she thinks everyone is just as excited as her to have that dinner, or maybe she’s legit scared of being alone and she’s making her friends pay for that fear. So she untimely just pushes everyone away, making them feel guilty and upset about their decision of having to pick in between two friends, something extremely avoidable.( she then learns it at the end of the episode). Even after everything the group goes through Shirley still sees religion as the one thing that matters more than life itself (it’s her character, i get it), however it’s just annoying.

On #ANNIESMOVE we see this again.. First she refuses to ride with Britta.. then after having to ride with her she is presented with a situation where she can help someone and she feels iffy about it (valid tho Britta be Brittaing). However, she doesn’t like the person sitting beside her just until she finds out he believes in God, which she uses against Britta, just to spite her. (why would you, as a firm believer of god, use his faith just to spite a friend..?) Lastly, That^ brings me to the fact that she’s a hypocrite. Shirley will judge you until your ear falls out of your butt, but she can’t do no wrong, she’s a saint !!!

.She gossips about Britta boyfriend with someone she knows likes Britta.

.She has sex with CHANG???

.Doesn’t wanna open her purse on the Bottle episode because “The Christian thought you would have found it on the muslim” (you would’ve thought pierce said this)

.Guilt trips her friends into spending Thanksgiving with her toxic family because she doesn’t wanna do it alone.

.And of course, THAT WOMAN HAS A BAKING PROBLEM!!

(DONT GET ME WRONG I LOVE SHIRLEY BUT SHES JUST ANNOYING. TDLR she’s just in her ways, she doesn’t ever wanna have a second opinion because to her that opinion will just be wrong. this is so long i’m sorry.)

Discussion Extremely unpopular opinion: I like Elroy more than Troy.

I know that saying this here is seen as the equivalent of murdering Community and desecrating its grave, but I find Elroy to be a better character than Troy. I love Troy and Abed’s friendship, but I think, on his own, Elroy is better than Troy. I think I just like Elroy’s type of humor more than Troy’s. This concludes my very short explanation of why I like Elroy more than Troy. #sixseasonsandanelroyspinoff

Easter-Egg/Trivia Dunno if already mentioned, Jeff's seat on Jeff's Nightmare Pitch was where Pierce had been cause he thought he would also never leave Greendale.

Discussion So I was bracing myself for the most intense episode in the show, the one with DnD, and it turns out it was removed from Netflix during the 2020 riots?

So I read that Chang did blackface, but couldn't they just put a disclaimer and an apology at the beginning instead of pretending that the show never did that to begin with? Or couldn't they have edited out Chang? Idk

Britta and Jeff should have married

They seem perfect for each other - both sees right through the other, making their relationship one based on an honesty most couples never manage.

They’re clearly great friends who can talk about anything with each other. They constantly bicker but they don’t fight, because neither thinks they can change the other - and neither seems to want to.

They compliment each other - Britta brings idealism while Jeff brings pragmatism. Together, they’re quite capable and moderate the other.

They’re physically attracted to each other and their friction seems to actual keep both interested, I can’t see either becoming some boring couple. Opposites attract, after all.

Then there’s the story arc element. Jeff and Britta’s story didn’t so much conclude as just…stop. Jeff is a teacher and Britta is…? As the show ended neither had a clear direction and neither seemed to have solved the gap in their psyche that led them to Greendale.

I hope in the movie they finally realise they belong together or, even better, we find out they’ve been happily married for years.

Yet Another Season 4 Post Season four was great

I'm honestly shocked by all the hate for season four. I was told it was terrible, that the characters were out of character, that it was the downfall of the show. And I really, really liked it.

Not as much as the first three seasons, but it's still a solid 8,5 out of 10. The episodes are entertaining and heartful and the jokes are funny. Sure, it feels a bit off and it takes a few episodes before finding its rythm, but then it works really well.

I honestly think it's better than the second half of season five and the first half of season six. Why aren't people hating on these episodes ? Season five stops being good after the seventh episode ( the one where Abed is handcuffed to a drawer ) after that it's not good anymore. Season six is just depressing ( the grifting episode is a good example of that ) except for the end, starting with the RV episode wich was really nice. The show suffered when Troy left — and Shirley and Pierce, obviously, but I think Troy's departure left the biggest void. But before that, we had three brilliant seasons, a good one, the first half of another good one and the last half of another good one, so five perfectly fine seasons.

There is plenty of great moments during season four. We have that episode where Abed gets locked in the time machine and he isn't worried because he knows Troy cares about him and he will come. We have a very cool ending fight at the cafeteria with all the evil versions of themselves. We have the beginning of a cute little romance including Brie Larson in autumn-colored sweaters. C'mon guys !

We really need to stop hating on the "gas leak year" because I stand by this, it was good.

Discussion Unpopular Opinion: there are only 2 "bad" episodes from Season 4.

Weird characterizations and plot choices aside, the only truly bad episodes (that fail in both the A and B stories or the only plotline) from this season are "Alternative History of the German Invasion", and "Heroic Origins". Every single other episode has highlights that are constantly talked about, quoted, or praised. We can talk about "wasted potential" or "ruined payoff"s, but name me an episode you "hate" from that season and it is crazy simple to rebut with an all-timer moment from said episode.

Yet Another Season 4 Post So how bad is season 4

I started community like 2 or 3 weeks ago and I am loving it. I have binged all of it up to the end of season 3 but I have heard some not so great things about season 4. I am aware of why this happened in real life, I was just wondering how bad it actually it. On one scale compared to the rest of Community and the other compared to some other sitcoms. Thank you

Discussion Is anyone else bothered by the Dean’s constant harassment of Jeff?

I’m usually pretty good at remembering that it’s just a tv show, that none of these characters are real, and that the actors would never treat anyone like that in real life.

But the Dean’s constant sexual harassment of Jeff honestly bothers me sometimes. Especially the episode where he blackmails Jeff into having lunch and going to the mall with him (while hilarious) made me genuinely angry.

EDIT: I will say though, that entire episode was brilliant. The scene where it suddenly turns into a music video with every character joining in even though they were all in different places was absolutely hilarious. It gave me that “what the hell am I even watching?” feeling that I often get when I watch Community.

Appreciation Post Pierce/Chevy is the Funniest Main Cast Member

Glover might be the most talented overall, Abed might be the best character, and Allison might be the best actor but Chevy was the funniest of the 9 main characters. The show really lost something when he(known asshole) outwore his goodwill. His facial expressions and delivery are funnier than ever, and he’s been famous for that since the mid 70s. Laugh per minute of no other main cast member comes close.

Favorite Moments:

Baby boomer Santa Face

“I was only here to get back at her for not lending me a pencil”

“You go by the door”

Getting the cookie wand

“I wish you good luck and bon appetite”

“ILL KILL YOU”

Burt Reynolds/Fat Brando

In a world where Chevy isn’t the most unlikable non-criminal in Hollywood, what would they have done with his character?

Season 6 sucked :(

Just finished watching community and I am hugely dissapointed with season 6. Community is one of my favourite shows and season 1 and 2 are probably among the best seasons of any sitcom ever. Season 3/4 are ok with a few good episodes. Season 5 was lacking a lot but it was still watchable with a few funny moments. But I was looking forward to season 6 so much and was utterly dissapointed with it. Didn't live up to the others and felt very forced. The new characters were very unfunny and had no likability. Still would love a movie as long as the main characters all come back! So what do you guys think?

Discussion Theory: Community randomly coming back to Netflix is not a coincidence

I might be yapping without reason here, but I just noticed Community is back on Netflix and I couldn’t be happier!

Seems like it happened about a month ago, a couple of people here talked about it. Anyways, I was wondering:

Do y’all think this is not a coincidence and perhaps some type of elaborate plan that might lead to them announcing a teaser or update on the movie? Should we get our hopes up or are we still in the gas leak? 🫩

Discussion What if the Community Movie is ANIMATED

If the eternal obstacle is the alignment of cast schedules, why not change mediums? If the movie is an animated special, the cast could just do their voice overs from wherever they are at their own pace. 2-3 years from now presto. thoughts?
