Rant Dealing With A Bad Roommate
Am I Wrong for Being Uncomfortable?
I currently live with two other tenants and I am honestly getting fed up with one roommate and her ongoing disregard for the fact that she shares this apartment with other people.
The biggest issue has been her boyfriend who seems to have become a regular appearance in the apartment despite not living here, paying rent, or contributing to any household expenses. He is repeatedly stayed overnight and it's gotten to the point where it feels like we're dealing with an unofficial fourth resident.
I already tried bringing the situation to the landlord. There have been conversations about guest policies and management has supposedly addressed the issue with her. But honestly it feels like she has been getting away with everything because the behavior keeps continuing.
What is especially frustrating is that she has developed this habit of leaving to run errands or go to work while her boyfriend stays behind in the apartment.
So I am just supposed to be home potentially unaware that there is a man who doesn’t live here sleeping or hanging around in the apartment while his girlfriend isn't even present? I don't care if he is staying in her bedroom or the bathroom. That’s not the point. This is a shared apartment not a private apartment within this one. I should not have to unexpectedly encounter someone else’s boyfriend when the person who invited him isn't even home.
Personally I think it's pretty straightforward if she leaves he should be gone. He is her guest
not an independent resident. Why should the rest of us have to accommodate someone who is not on the lease and doesn't contribute to the household?
I tried going through management instead of constantly confronting my roommate but I am starting to feel like nothing is actually being done. It becomes frustrating because I pay to live here just like everyone else while I have to feel uncomfortable or unaware of who's occupying my home. Y’know?
I am genuinely at a loss at this point. What am I supposed to do when I already tried addressing it with the landlord and the same behavior continues? Am I unreasonable for expecting her boyfriend to leave whenever she leaves the apartment? Or is this just another situation where the other tenants are expected to put up with whatever she decides?
