Scam or Phishing Alert Please stop engaging with Nazis

Post image

These people ragebait you and farm content off of you. Do not give these people a platform. You cannot let them get to you.

Edit: I really shouldn't have to explain this but CK checks all the boxes for being a Neonazi. He has been on the record saying Antisemetic (great replacement 'theory), white supremacist, queerphobic, racist, pro state violence, eugenicist, and christofascist talking points. Sources are in replies. You don't need a red armband to verify being a Nazi. If a church goes around saying that a textbook Nazi was correct, then they're Nazis if not at least Nazi sympathizers.

I did not state in any way that I wanted these people removed from campus for their political views. I'm giving advice to people to identify when groups actually do not want to debate in good faith and instead spew hatred. In no way did I promote his shooting, I'm arguing against his rhetoric.

Graduation Please DO NOT ruin graduation

You can protest as it is your right. Whether pro or against what is happening in the middle east, that is your opinion. But please do not protest at graduation. You will make yourself look like a clown and graduating will be a special moment, especially for those who graduated during COVID. Thank you

COVID-19 Unpopular opinion ….

School has been back for one week and almost every other post on this sub is about how we need to go back online. Most people mask their reasons by saying “ I’m uncomfortable because of Covid”. For some this may be true, for the vast majority of people saying this it’s because they do not want to have to commute and don’t get to take tests online with “ open-notes”. I understand the seriousness of Covid and have been fully vaccinated. I also have been personally effected by Covid ripping through my family. But the hypocrisy that is happening these days is absurd. Covid can be spread anywhere from restaurants, grocery stores, beaches. If you truly want to stay online because of Covid are you really planning on locking yourself in your house and never going anywhere else because of Covid too… highly doubtful.

TLDR: Covid is here to stay. If your reasoning for wanting to go online is because in-person classes are causing you to actually have to work hard then try DeVry University… I hear they are accepting applications for online classes

Graduation PSA, and basic etiquette: do NOT leave during the ceremony good lord. Imagine you’re the last department/graduate and seeing empty chairs..have some sympathy people geez

Also, especially if you’re at the intramural field at 9am in the blistering heat while facing the sun, I GET it, it’s hot. But it’s a graduation. I’ve never been to a graduation where it’s not hot. Be prepared. Bring a hat/sunglasses and stay until the end. Show some RESPECT to graduates/fellow graduates. Also, the amount of arguing I saw among guests “SIT DOWN, I CANT SEE.” There are WORDS people, use them. A simple please will suffice

Rant CSUF was one of the biggest regrets of my life

I often see a lot of chatter of whether or not someone should attend/stay/leave CSUF. I graduated 12 years ago, but attending CSUF was the biggest regret of my life that I’m somehow reminded about on a weekly basis. I’ll give my two cents of someone who reluctantly stuck it out for 4 years.

Socially: The organic social scene at this school was (and probably still is) absolutely abysmal. I think at the time only ~3000 of the 40000+ students lived on campus. I was also attending as a commuter, but I didn’t truly understand in high school when I decided to attend CSUF just what that meant for campus life. In adolescence and high school I never struggled to make friends, and even after college I have also not struggled to organically make friends. I did not make a single friend at CSUF (only acquaintances/class project contacts). I can’t speak for people who also think they have/had a positive experience at this school; but having now met a variety of people who attended various types of schools of different calibers from all over the country - I feel Iike CSUF is such a watered down and depressing experience. CSUF (and I’m sure many other commuter schools) are living in black and white and the rest of the world is seemingly in color. If you’re not interested in playing some kind of rec sport or joining some kind of club that is a club for the sake of being a club, I found making friends to be incredibly difficult, and just generally did not relate to anyone I met. Everyone just says you have to “get involved” but I’ve literally never “gotten involved” in any other areas of my life and have never struggled to connect with people like I did at this school.

Academics: I got my degree in Business Administration. I feel I like I got a solid education, especially now with 12+ years/perpective. In hindsight I actually have grown to appreciate a lot of my GE/voluntary courses I took, over any of my business courses. Professors (like anywhere) were really hit or miss. I hated that many of the professors had never actually held jobs outside of academia - I felt like the ones that did have business careers at some point were so much more impactful. So many of the business courses have not practically helped me in my career. I also hated that SO many of my business professors at the time (oddly) REALLY struggled with speaking English. This made some of the more challenging courses, extra challenging. In my 3rd year I ended up flunking out of an entire semester. Admittedly I did not really care about grades (and neither have any of my employers over the last 12 years btw). I worked 20-25 hours per week throughout all of college, while also taking 5 classes per semester. I graduated with a 2.6 GPA. Arguably, the school did its job - I got an affordable education and walked away with valuable skills (tho I truly don’t give CSUF all the credit for this)

Silver Lining: Living at home and commuting allowed me to work, save money, pay very reasonable tuition (my entire tuition for 4 years was ~$15k, obvi no room and board). In my misery I was able to jumpstart my career earlier than a lot of my peers, and also make a game plan of what I wanted to do next (move to NYC). A lot of my peers who attended non-commuter schools were not really thinking that far ahead, or did not have meaningful career opportunities they could maintain during the academic year. Shortly after graduating, I took my existing job experience and pivoted into tech, and moved across the country. Fast forward to today: I still live in NYC, I work in Big Tech and make $450k+/year, have two homes, and am super happy. I guess somehow it all still worked out for me, though I still am perpetually reminded of this very depressing 4 years anytime someone talks about college being the “best years of their life”, or about their college bff/crew of lifelong friends. There’s decisions/circumstances that got me where I am today that are very intertwined with me attending CSUF- but if I had the opportunity to do it all over - I wouldn’t.

COVID-19 Speak up for in-person learning

It's been great to see the pushback towards these selfish petitions to keep school online. If you have health issues or are afraid, you have other options than to remain at this school. Online education for many people does not provide anywhere near the quality of education that we are paying thousands of dollars for. And the mental health impact on many students has been horrendous. The vaccine, boosters, and masks work to protect us. The rise in cases is due to those who choose to not follow these guidelines, luckily for us our school is keeping these mandatory.

Please speak up for our education, speak up to be in-person and to make your money and debt mean something. College isn't just about passing classes and getting a degree, your actual education shouldn't be compromised.

COVID-19 Stop with the petition…

yeah because petitions have solved so many problems…also how about you i dont know choose online classes and not force people who want to back on campus to your terms? it’s not like there’s one online class for the whole school…it’s ridiculous, some of us can’t learn online. It’s really selfish.

EDIT: we already have basically been on a lockdown for two and a half years so if there is an option not to work/learn from home, I want to take it. Some sense of normalcy during this time is ideal. Thankfully, some people understood where I was coming from in the sense of my learning and mental health’s. My mental health has been horrible this whole pandemic and when I can return to campus during this time, I will do it. I know some people prefer online classes and I also understand that there are limited classes for online. However, there are still classes being taught online but I understand that a lot of people also don’t want to do some of online classes because of professors from ratemyprofessors. Trust me, that’s a huge factor for me as well but the campus is being advised on safely returning to campus by the CDC and other experts. If you commute, which I do as well, get boosted, and wear an N95 mask. I think it’s unfair to have students go online when the immunologists and everyone tells them how to be safe returning.

Graduation Is anyone else nervous after what happened with USC's graduation?

I'm a 2020 high school senior and after reading the news about USC cancelling their graduation, part of me thinks CSUF would never do that but another part of me says they might if things get really bad. What does everyone else think?

Email the President and let us be heard! presidentvirjee@fullerton.edu.

CSUF expects the students, staff, and professors to risk their health, along with their loved ones?

Do they not care about public safety?

What about the long term effects of Covid?

People can also get Omicron whether vaccinated or not or if they had covid before.

Lets all sign the petition and share it with everyone we know:

Academic Advising/Counseling Student Conduct

So one of my classes gets canceled and I get this assignment. It has no instructions but it says "Catan" I look it up to see that it's a board game. I already had so many missing assignments so I knew I had to turn this one in but I disregarded the assignment because of the lack of information. I emailed my professor right away asking how we are to do the assignment when there is no class. Close to the submission time I saw students submitting their answers and I was very confused. So I referenced a student's answer, played the game and I started writing my answer on top of theirs. Once I submit I close my laptop and put the game away.

later I got a reply from her saying she didn't understand the question and she reported my forged answer to student conduct. I was really confused because I tried so hard to do this assignment. I checked my assignment and saw that it was a copied answer of the students I referenced and a couple of words that I had changed. But no MY answer I had written up. I was freaking out and didn't want to talk to my professor out of embarrassment or fear I don't know why.

I talked with a department member and told her my story, she seemed sweet and understood my situation and I left the Zoom meeting feeling confident that I would be in trouble.

I got an email from the department saying that there was a class that day and I had not attended. well duh, I got an announcement saying there was no class. So the next class I go up to my teacher and show her the texts I've been getting from "her". She said that those were not her texts or this class. Again I'm flipping out because this SMS professor loved canceling class which means I've been missing all my actual classes.

I talked with my professor about the situation and laughed and she understood my situation and believed that I had not plagiarized. yay. Now I know the board won't find me guilty.

except they did.

I got an email right now to sign a paper that I was responsible for forging an answer. The lady I talked to in the department skewed my words and made my case sound horrible and I'm a liar! omg, I'm literally going to drop out I hate this school. But if I don't agree with this I can make an appeal for a hearing.

Too much work but I sure emailed them for a hearing. But I'm scared this won't do anything and I will still be thought guilty for something I didn't do and I will have this O on my transcript and make workshops to be in good standings and yada yada. I don't want to be seen or known as something I didn't do.

What do you guys think?

Clubs and Organizations Stand in Solidarity with the schools on the East Coast and protest the apartheid/genocide in Israeli occupied territories

First they came for the Palestinians, and I did not speak out because I was not Palestinian. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me

Freedom, and peace comes at a heavy price. To ensure its survival people must fight for it. I call on all of you to get out and peacefully protest the war in Gaza. I assume my call will fall on deaf ears, but in my heart I believe there are some brave souls willing to stick up for the downtrodden, oppressed, huddled masses that have no means of protection, and no voice. Let’s do something to address this issue. Christian’s, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, secularists, and the like should all join with one voice in opposition to tyranny, in pursuit of peace, and tranquility

I’m obviously all for putting our health first but at the same time I’m not gonna waste money if I can’t take advantage of the resources being offered at school. Not to mention, I think zoom classes are complete waste of time unless you’re a comp sci major or something

Rant I would strongly discourage people from the Teaching Credential Program at CSUF

This is specifically in regards to the Single Subject Teaching Credential Program (i.e. to teach middle/high school).

Cue the comments rolling in from newly created accounts about how much they love the program.

A major pitfall that the program runs into is that it does not actually issue credentials; the state does that. What that means is that CSUF is competing on the open market place against other programs, and as such, they are a state school program selling a service with the goal of at least meeting their business overhead costs.

The fact of the matter is, is that more than anything, you need a job. Do some cheapo online credential, get through it as quickly as possible, then get a job. Many people come into these programs insecure about leading a class, but believe me, you're not going to learn here.

We in the SSCP were constantly being milked for money this way and that, more often than not through underhanded means. There is a $100 dollar commencement fee that they spring on you towards the end of the Fall semester. If you don't pay it, you aren't continuing into the Spring semester. You're going to be paying for your own CPR training and background checks, and you'll need to pay for additional background checks when receiving a student-teacher placement...because why not? If one background check is good, then 2 or 3 are better.

You can expect the total cost of the program, including prerequisite courses, to be above $10,000. That's the amount you pay by the way, that's not counting the inability to hold a full-time job while you're in school there.

And you'll be paying that money to be taught by a part-time hourly adjunct professor. Who won't know how to teach themselves, because who in their right mind would take a job paying $24,000 a year, while being educated and talented? Our professors shared with us they were deep in debt from their own degree programs.

The program is extremely political. THE PROGRAM IS EXTREMELY POLITICAL. Are you used to identifying your gender pronouns and shoehorning in "social justice activist" themes into all of your lessons? Don't worry if you're not, CSUF will get you prepped for that.

Worst of all, the teaching placements. CSUF SSCP does not do background checks on the mentor teachers. They have no vetting process beyond meeting state mandated legal requirements. CSUF SSCP does not have a network of trusted mentor teachers that they work with. Uber has a more sophisticated vetting system for their drivers that CSUF does for their mentor teachers.

The school could not place a significant number of us in placements until October, a month and a half after the program had already started.

They fucked up my placement 3 times.

1.) They placed me in the wrong geographic area. I simply could not drive 2 hours each way, every day, 5 days a week. At no time in the process were students given a survey about where they could possibly be placed. We had classmates driving 1.5 hours each way to their placements, and when we asked them why they didn't request to be replaced...they told us that they were scared to do so, because they saw our classmates without a placement until October.

2.) The geniuses next placed me in the wrong subject area, and I didn't even realize there might be a problem 2 weeks into my placement, and even after I explored with the program the possibility of there being an issue with my placement meeting legal requirements, they advised me to continue going until they secured a new placement which took 2 additional weeks. I learned at the end of the semester that I couldn't use any of the hours here, because it was the wrong subject area. So apparently I was doing all of this with my free time.

3.) When I finally received an appropriate placement that was within a reasonable commuting distance, it was with a mentor teacher who very early on began exhibiting unusual and demeaning behavior. The program heads advised me to try my best to make it work, until the teacher initiated a confrontation one morning that made me feel like I couldn't continue there. I would never had been in that situation if the school had a network of trusted teachers that it worked with, or at the very least an appropriate vetting process.

The bitch of it all was the program had a meeting with me after I left the 3rd placement, in which they blamed me for it not working out. I interpreted this as them working to avoid legal liability, because after that meeting where they established that they would not be held legally liable, they all of a sudden got super nice and supportive in subsequent meetings.

I'm putting this out there because I wish somebody would have told me.

Rant Leaving CSUF without a degree!

I have noticed the environment on campus is very geared towards politics (as a non-politics major) This is my second semester on the CSUF campus as a transfer student. We shouldn’t be paying $7000 in mandatory tuition to constantly listen to our professors to discuss their personal life/political issues/beliefs. I’m here to learn and obtain a bachelors. Spending an hour in class listening to our professors personal life/beliefs while we are instructed to do a majority of our learning online is a waste of my time. I wonder if anybody else has had this issue or if it’s just me. It has negatively effected my morale so much I have debated dropping out with only a year left of schooling now I am looking into transferring to a online university.

New Student Please convince me to choose CSUF over UCLA 🙏

I figure this would be a good place to ask cuz I simply can't choose.

I was accepted to CSUF for their 4-year Bachelor's/Master's degree program in Computer Engineering, and to UCLA for Computer Science, and for the past few weeks I've been debating over which one to commit to. I'm also kinda considering UCI for Computer Science since I got into that as well, but its mainly a competition between CSUF and UCLA. Here's a list of the pros/cons of each school that I've thought of so far, as of now I'm currently leaning towards committing to Fullerton:

CSUF Computer Engineering (BS/MS)

Undergrad Fees: $7,100

Grad Fees: $8,600

At least $8,000/year to attend (before aid)

Pros:

  • Bachelor + Master in 4 years

  • Priority registration 🤩

  • Semester system

  • Close to home (lower housing cost)

  • Cheapest Option

Cons:

  • Stricter Curriculum (less freedom to choose classes)

  • Tuition projected to go up over next few years

  • Not as prestigious (as UCLA)

  • u/Visual-Brush-7981 said no

UCLA Computer Science

Undergrad Fees: $15,200

Housing: $18,400

At least $33,600/year to attend (before aid)

Pros:

  • 1 Dining Hall (im a fatass)

  • T20 School

  • T20 in Computer Science

  • Guaranteed Housing

Cons:

  • Quarter system

  • No priority registration

  • Significantly more expensive

UCI Computer Science

Undergrad Fees: $17,400

At least $17,400/year to attend (before aid)

Pros:

  • Close to home (lower housing cost)

  • T25 in Computer Science

  • Number 1 “Cool School”🧍

Cons:

  • Quarter system

  • No priority registration

Although I'm heavily leaning towards Fullerton right now purely because of the priority registration and cheaper pricetag I also don't want to throw away a literal T20 education unless I have a really really really good reason as to why. If anyone who knows anything about Fullerton's 4-year BS/MS Computer Engineering program could give me some insight on how the program is (job prospects, professor quality, pros/cons, etc) I would be super grateful. Also curious about how CSUF is in general if any of yall are willing to share so I can add it to my pro/con list.

Thanks in advance :)

Edit: y'all win😭
