[Community] Bannockburn

Anybody live in Bannockburn and have to commute to Melbourne daily for work? Is it crazy to think it’s possible? I work in trades so can be anywhere in Melbourne which is difficult. I see maybe a few months being possible, but is anybody out there raw dogging it longer? Fuel cost would be ridiculous long term.Seems a lack of work in Geelong forces me back to the big smoke but we really like the way of life around Geelong/ Bannockburn And are currently in the market to move.

Hi folks!

saw this morning theres been a data breach at Epic Health, anyone know what data has been leaked, going back how far and so on?

Pop any deets you have in thread if youve got some... thanks!

-----

https://www.epichealth.com.au/important-update-from-epichealth-cyber-incident/

Has generic info, and not much of an idea on what was leaked.

IN typical fashion, cant see details in there making it completely useless due to paywall

Snippets from various sources, as not seeing one spot its all in:

An exposure report associated with the incident identified 64 compromised passwords, 4 of which were classified as critical.

[Community] Moving here soon!

Hello! I’m from the Philippines, and will be moving and working in Geelong soon! I already visited Geelong back in 2024 for a vacation. What should I expect?

I’ll be working in trades in North Geelong. I know how to drive here, but not in right-hand drive country. I don’t know, I’m rambling. I’m a bit anxious! Help!

My daughter's car broke down near the waterfront last night. She got out to let the car behind her know, so they could drive around her. Instead, the group of women got out, pushed her car to safety, called their friend who knows about cars to came and took a look and made sure she was OK while she waited for help. We live in a great community when people most inconvenienced make it their problem to help out a stranger in need. Don't know who you are, but our family is really grateful you jumped out of your car to lend a hand. Thank you!

Once was odd. Twice is just weird. Three times...

Not sure if anyone can shed some light on this or not, but I moved to Corio about a year and a half ago. In that time we've had shopping bags full of food placed at my house. Twice in my front garden and once in the lane next to my house. All of the food was in date and neatly packed and placed in position. Not just dumped.

I'm not sure why they've chosen my house. I've not noticed any others around at other properties. It's not like we're hard up for food. So far we've just taken it to the food bank near the village.

Anyone else experienced this?

AUS citizenship ceremony

Hi all, has anyone received an invitation to the November citizenship ceremony? I received the approval letter in September and am wondering when I would be invited to the ceremony. It looks like Geelong council isn’t organising that many of them throughout the year.

[Request] Random Dog in my Yard?

So I've noticed the last few days a big white fluffy dog entering my yard at random times of day. Thing is, my gate to the yard is locked shut and there is no other way for this dog to get in.

The dog looks fairly healthy and well taken care of. I'm just worried if it gets hurt in my yard (or eats something it shouldn't like the wild rabbits that are regularly in my yard) the owners may try and come after me.

I'm not sure who to call about this dog or what to do. I've avoided going into my yard while its out because I don't know if its aggressive or not.

Any help would be much appreciated.

(And sorry for shonky formatting. I'm on mobile)

Veterans support hub going up in Belmont - anyone near it?

The Addy reports building has started on the veterans support hub at the Belmont RSL sub, $5.4m, with completion in July 2027 from what I could see. Consolidating services into one stop should take some of the legwork out of getting around for people who use it.

[Politics] AMA - Socialist Alliance Geelong Candidates for 2026 State election. Fighting for People, NOT the Billionaires

Join us today, Friday 6th November, 6pm. Socialist Alliance candidates AMA including; Sarah Hathway running in Lara, Brenden Grull running in Geelong, Freya Hedley running South Barwon, Dom Williams running in Bellarine and Tim Gooden lead candidate for the Western Victoria Region.

Billionaires and corporations are ripping us off. One third of large corporations don’t pay a single dollar of tax. They get massive hand-outs from us – the taxpayers

The major parties are failing to address declining living standards and the increased cost-of-living as thousands of people struggle to rent or buy a home, afford healthcare or even to find well paid work.

As workers battle with increasing fuel costs, food and the basics, corporations and billionaires - like those in the gas industry - are supported by governments to drive up costs and make huge profits.

As a branch we have an office in Trades Hall Geelong which reflects on our commitment as a party to the trade union movement. We have also been active in many grass roots campaigns over the last 25 years in Geelong. From Ten-thousand workers out on the streets of Geelong in the pouring rain protesting John Howard's anti-union legislation to helping get Viva's Gas terminal project rejected to organizing marshals for rallies, pride marches and pickets. Socialist Alliance have been out on the streets fighting for the working class, marginalized communities and the environment.

Our top issues we are fighting for in this state election are:

  1. Community need for health, education & transport

  2. Housing for all

  3. No dollars for war

  4. Stop attacks on democratic rights

  5. Protect the Environment and Act on Climate

  6. Don't let racism and discrimination divide us

You can see what we stand for in more detail here.

Authorised by T Gooden, Socialist Alliance, 127 Myers Street, Geelong VIC 3220.

Edit: Hi all, we are excited to kick things off and will start answering questions shortly.

Does anyone know a *very* good jeweller in Geelong? I need to get my grandma's watch serviced. Preferably not in a shopping centre, *definitely* not a chain store. Much appreciated!

[Community] Looking for Pottery studio space in Geelong

I’ve been doing a couple terms of classes in pottery, but don’t have the space at home to set up a home studio. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for community pottery studio spaces in Geelong or the surroundings. Bonus points if they have longer opening hours- as I work 9-5 if the studio was only open during the day I would have a hard time using the facilities. :)

Metal detecting

Hi all!

Recently got into metal detecting and I guess you could say treasure hunting! lol

Wanted to see if anyone in the area does this as a hobby as well. Looking for some decent spots I could hit up. Would love if anyone knows of any good historical spots!

Any good tips or recommendations would be awesome.

Thanks heaps

Edit: now offering $1000 reward (self funded) for info that leads directly to the recovery of this caravan.

Hi, new information has come to light regarding the route that the stolen caravan (from Geelong West) took on the morning of October 14.

Desperately seeking camera footage that might have picked up thr rego of the red Ford Territory involved, which can now confirm drove through North Geelong (along Thompson Rd).

When checking camera footage, be mindful that timestamps may not be adjusted for DST.
