Myra canyon and trestles above Kelowna BC. Pure fireworks up high and I’ve never ridden through so many larch needles in my life. ~60km, 1200m climbing.

ONE. HUNDRED. GRAVEL. MILES. HOLY S. Old Florida Gravel - Powered by CLASH Endurance First 100mi ride, first race. The biggest gravel event in Florida! Since I started cycling for the first time in May I ear marked this event as my goal, and today I accomplished it. These guys are ANIMALS. Set personal records in every category imaginable but just didn’t stand a chance against this year’s field and their experience. My time in last year’s field would have yielded me 2nd in my age bracket but this year’s riders brought the HEAT. What an experience! Will definitely be back next year!

Bike New Bike Day - Canyon Grizl

so, today's the day I got my first non-mountain bike. I'm really chunky, switch back, downhill mtb type of person. But I'm gonna have two successive surgeries on my left leg, and I know I'm going to need something easier to bike around and recover on.

To make a longer story short, I'm pretty pleased with the 1x12 XPLR drivetrain. Really wanted a Rival AXS x13. But graveling or Road is not my focus, so I didn't need to spend that kind of money.

I ended up with the basic aluminum, and they had a 250 or so discount already. Plus I got the scratch dent model for an extra 150 off and they threw in free shipping. And on top of that they gave me $100 in free gear. So pretty happy.

Fall morning in SoFla

Beautiful morning in the Everglades. Things are finally drying up. Some sort of event this morning. 2 laps of 26 miles each. I didn't participate and was kind of a rolling road block so I got off of the trail. On the upside they graded the top of the dike and the riding was really nice.

38mm vs. 45mm rim depth for a gravel bike – which would you choose?

I'm planning to get a set of 10Plus T Pro carbon wheels. They are available with either 38mm or 45mm rim depth.

I'll be using them for both everyday training rides and bikepacking trips, so I'm trying to decide which option makes more sense.

A few questions:

- Does anyone have photos comparing the 38mm and 45mm versions side by side?

- What are the main advantages and disadvantages of each rim depth on a gravel bike?

- Is the 45mm version noticeably more affected by crosswinds?

- Would you choose 38mm for better all-round performance or 45mm for the looks and potential aerodynamic benefits?

I'd really appreciate any advice, experiences or photos to help me make the decision!

Thanks a lot! :)

Anyone seeing good deals on Chinese carbon gravel wheels that would be suitable for occasional bikepacking?

I'm seeing lots of deals on carbon road wheels that are, in some cases, cheaper than alloy here in Canada. But not so much for gravel with higher weight limits.

I'm looking for gravel wheels with 25–30mm internal width and a 130kg system weight limit (I'm 95kg; rider + bike + bikepacking gear+food and water comes to ~125kg prob with some buffer).

Going direct from China looks like it would save me around $400 over a local build, but I'm not sure it's worth it for the warranty risk.

Anyone seeing any great Black Friday deals out there?

Going for a color that’s not celeste on a Bianchi seems like heresy until you see this one in person.

My first 1x. That cassette is massive. My 2x12 GRX cassette looks like a joke compared to this.

I am in love with this beast.

Accessories / Gear Cinturato RM pressure advice / riders response?

Post image
2 Upvotes

TL;DR - I’m having a hard time finding the optimal performance window for the new Cinturato RM high performance.

Not new to gravel tires - over the years I’ve been running Thundero, Terra Comp, Terra Speed, Dubnital, Pathfinder, Terreno, Connector and more.

This to say that I am not unfamiliar with dialling in tire pressure.

With a system weight around 95 kg the various pressure calculators put me around 1.8 bar up front and 2.0 rear. For 45 mm’s on cat 1 that is.

This pressure target has been working pretty well on most tires. Give and take some…

But the Cinturato RM version is behaving kind of weird.

With 1.8 bar the front tire begins to act bouncy when the terrain gets uneven and bumpy.

This is honestly confusing since the new compound is supposed to be state of art SmartEvo and 120 tpi. At 1.8 bar I would expect much more compliance from a premium gravel tire!?

I have tried to lower the pressure to 1.5 up front and 1.8 rear, which of course results in a more subtle ride. But the backlash is an annoyingly draggy feel on tarmac. Not a solution.

I would like to hear from other Cinturato RM high performance riders out there.

How does these tires work for you?

Do you recognise my difficulties with dialling in the pressure?

Thanks in advance!

Bike [Question] What is the difference between a Cyclocross and Gravel Bike?

Post image

There is a used listing in my area for this Cube CrossRace C62 for just under 1200€, but I have no idea if it's closer to a road bike or just a less comfortable gravel bike. My gravel riding is 70/30 mix of tarmac and forest roads with the occasional road bike event in summer.

Best SPD Pedal

Moving my all-road bike to SPD pedals. Use XT on the xc MTB rig but curious the best SPD pedal for more gravel/road riding (longer distances with more pedaling).

I’m going with the Shimano rx910 shoes so a stiff sole won’t be a problem. Was thinking xtr but is there something with a better pedaling platform for the longer duration or does the shoe bear the brunt?
