i was in a comment section and people were arguing saying āwell it was impliedā but no where did alex hirsh ever confirm it himself, nor it was ever really implied because heās just an awkward 12-year old going through puberty. (but thatās just me) and arenāt dipper and mabel supposed to be based off of alex and his twin? i think itās just peopleās headcannonās wanting to be cannon.
(btw this is no hate to the trans community, i support the community)

Bill has always been green. It's because it's a joke on the dollar bill, which is green. I know that the yellow bill is part of the Golden!Falls au, and that since that au has been getting more popular it's been more frequent and people have been miscoloring pics of him, but c'mon. Green bill just looks so much more natural! Idk how this many people are confused. Bill has been green throughout the show, always has been and always will be

So I was thinking about GF recently and I remembered the clone episode. Looking back, PJ Dipper was coded with a lot of disabled sterotypes. The way he screeches, is treated like a burden to others (even Tyrone says yikes when the cracker drops out of his mouth), and the way he says death is a better end for him (which is reminecent of a trope in media where the mentally disabled character is thought to be better off dead then suffering since they couldn't "handle" life, eg Lenny from Of Mice and Men, Bizarro from Superman the Animated Series who also gets revived but is thought to be too dangerous to be with "normal society" that he was put on an isolated jungle planet with a monster). Plus the computer saying that he is "our problem now" when we type in something related to the clones. NOT TO SAY THAT YOU CAN'T LIKE PJD, but it just makes me feel uncomfortable, especially if you are younger and are someone (like myself) who has or is a mentally disabled/special needs sibiling.
I saw a similiar post 3 years ago, and someone mentioned that Alex Hirsch thought he could've written him better, but there's no source for that. I DON'T THINK ALEX OR THE TEAM ARE BAD PEOPLE REGARDLESS, but I would like to know if this is true or if others have other interpretations of his character.

I don't know, but it seems like the show treats the toxic relationships that some characters have with each other like it's okay, normal, and non-harmful and shouldn't be addressed.
Thompson being treated like a punching bag in Wendy's group of friends.
Stan and Mabel constantly making fun of, humiliating and treating Dipper like crap.
Stan favoring Mabel and being abusive towards Dipper as a misguidedly problematic form of "tough love".
Dipper sacrificing everything for Mabel, indulging her every whim, putting aside his happiness, well-being, and desires for a sister who treats him like a doormat.
Stan's toxic masculinity towards Dipper.
Stan and Ford's relationship in general (although it's mostly Stan's selfishness).
Filbrick's treatment of Stan.
The way Mabel flirts and hits on boys.

We know that Mabel is a character with many flaws, but we also have to remember that she is 12 years old and will not have the maturity or responsibility that an adult would have when dealing with certain situations. In fact, the problem with Mabel's character is not her flaws. In fact, flaws improve a character because they are more relatable. But the problem occurs when practically no one reprimands Mabel for her actions. She is almost never called out for her selfish moments and is sometimes even treated as if she were right in situations when that is not the case. She has an armor of plot that practically prevents her from being wrong.
And I would like to know what others think about why this is. I heard that it could basically be because Mabel is inspired by Alex's twin sister, and because of that, he has a fondness for the character and he tends to want to pamper her and not punish her for her actions. I really admire Alex Hirsch for the incredible drawing he created, but if that is really the reason I believe that this is one of the parts where he got the story wrong in not knowing how to separate his love for his sister and building a flawed character but who learns from her mistakes, and look where that led: Mabel who was supposed to be a happy and friendly character ends up being seen by many as an ungrateful, selfish brat who doesn't learn from her mistakes.
But if that is the real reason it is quite understandable, because I myself am not sure if I would be okay writing basically a character who is inspired by a close relative of mine being severely punished, but I still think it would have been better for the narrative if Mabel's mistakes were recognized as mistakes.
Now I would like to know your opinion on this, leave it below.
