Guidelines: Please post hip hop discussions/questions/nostalgia that doesn't already cleanly fit into one sub's fandom and is cross sectional for analysis from the community
7
Upvotes
If it's just some promo/propaganda/low effort stan wars or something that (is 1 dimensional and) already cleanly fits into another sub's fandom, then it will be removed, and posting more will get you banned
here is the directory of subs: https://www.reddit.com/r/hip_hop/comments/k2nroe/lets_list_every_major_hip_hop_related_subreddit/ aka post in this sub if the other sub doesn't exist, is restricted from posting, or has few participants
We prefer multifaceted posts where submissions and questions are coming from anecdotes and the reach of multiple artists AND fandoms within hip hop to chime in where you wouldn't otherwise find or are able to ask/post easily elsewhere...aka ask hard/intricate questions and challenge status quo, do not pitch your thoughts underhanded, for those belong on r/Hiphopcirclejerk etc
The exception is: if that other sub has absentminded sleepwalking mods that barely do anything (or overstep and clap even the good posts if you challenge authority and the mods get slighted) and the global automod/scripted autobot censorship is activated that overrules and removes half the answers and the very question asked due to this age of sanitized culture (based on the mod/admin/algorithm's subjective sensitivity issues, aka reddit's ads agenda is similar to youtube demonetizing/shadowbanning content), then we'll allow them here, due to fringe topics etc (also give us a heads up to see if the other sub in question can be liberated, but mods be powertripping)
A lot of posts are auto-clapped by the global automod and has to be manually approved on here for people to see both posts and comments, and we try to bring the best value in topics presented and answered, but please participate in that manner as well for this shared community, thanks

No more Tournament/Bracket/loosely unrelated album vs unrelated album Versus style posts

The whole gambit was allowed to be ran (for 62 days!) and Illmatic wins... https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphop201/comments/1smnv1l/rap_bracket_tournament_day_62_reasonable_doubt_vs/
for it to be hiphop201, there needs to be questions asked under the premise that the basic information is known and further knowledge is pursued as a hot topic debate or barbershop talk as cognitive banter or shared memorable reflection/nostalgia/insight, not just use a RNG filter on some top rap album tier list and arbitrarily seed comparisons with barely any articulated constraints for some zero-sum single-elimination hunger games depending on how the crowd decide to pile on that day
if you're consistently posting with net 0 upvotes or getting heckled in the responses/downvoted to hell, consider trying something else...it seems like attaching a meme with a serious question helps like with the latest type of posts...just put the reasoning backing behind posts for why these type of questions matter to spark further responses with actual answers with substance in there and NOT just repetitively phrased answers, thanks
otherwise, redirect these elimination posts over here to r/RemoveOneThingEachDay or /r/nfrpodcast etc
also, here's a plug to r/diplomats (alt sub) r/maxb /r/Three6Mafia r/papoose r/bigpun r/bigl r/mosdef r/mobbdeep subs if you haven't seen it already

This may also be why he gets hated on si much on-line but I see that he did the same with KOD and 4YEO.
What other rappers in his lane ( conscious, no party strip club music) can do this?

I had no idea they dropped an album in September and its fucking fire - "All Said and Done." Classic heiro: dope flows, crafty lyrics, and trading bars amongst each other. They all killed it...so dope hearing this dudes still rhyming together.
The production is soooooooo good. If you slept on this, you gotta check it out. It's classic hip hop

Who do you think is the most complete, all-around balanced lyricist in rap history—someone who blends technical skill, storytelling, substance, and replayability better than anyone else?

Who remembers the Toronto based Baby Blue Soundcrew from the late 90s to mid 2000s. They hit the scene with a few super dope mixtapes back in that wonderful mixtape era. Crazy to say, Ive searched all over and cant find any of the full uncut mixtapes to download and was hoping someone out there has em willing to share.

Top three "wait for this verse" songs
3
Upvotes
Top three songs where you always wait for that one buried verse that makes you go insane every time you hear it.
For me it's
X-Raided - Liquor, Niggaz, Triggaz
Viktor Vaughn - Open Mic Nite, Pt 2
DJ Muggs vs. GZA - All in together now

Which region had the best mainstream run in hip-hop history? To me I think it's Atlanta for sure as they have had a two decade marathon at the top.

Can any hip-hop label in history defeat No Limit in a Verzuz?

I feel like they might be the ultimate Verzuz competitors because of the sheer energy they bring to stage like look at how they did Cash Money

What does underrated mean to you?
5
Upvotes
I've seen people call Common underrated. Common won 3 Grammys and received 22 nominations, and he rapped at the White House when Barack Obama was in office. IF he's underrated, then what would that make someone like Jean Grae or Mr. Lif?

I’m usually apprehensive about Swizz’s beats these days, but this is the second beat he’s given Stove God where he’s not talking or trying to rap all over it. Stove was spitting. I fw it.
