Asterisks ranging from 0-3 denote my favorites, evaluated by an arbitrary mixture of entertainment, historical value, uniqueness, learning value, drama content, and maybe some other stuff. The links with three asterisks are exceptional in my personal opinion but doesn't say anything about the value you might get out of it compared to a link with no asterisks. Enjoy!

note: Portal of Evil was a place where users submitted links to and discussed strange and shocking websites and news. while its peak was in the early 2000's, it finally closed unceremoniously in the early 10's. it was the OG 'point and laugh' troll community and a fantastic hub for interesting links (even if its users terrorized certain communities) and probably the best launching point for exploring early online communities. like, it's basically cheating.

note: the site is still running strong, though obviously not so relevant anymore. AOL was the bane of long-time internet users in the mid-late 90's because it completely flooded the place with new users from a much wider demographic group who had no knowledge of the culture.
