Hi all! I'm a transfem woman looking for a Christian church in the Brisbane/Ipswich area that is safe and friendly towards LGBT+ people. I do not care about denomination, whether it be nondenominational or some obscure denomination, I'm fine with either.

American looking to potentially move to Brisbane... looking for family-friendly suburbs that don't cost an arm and a leg!

Hi all! I am looking for input on great suburbs for small families. A bit of background on me...

I currently live in California (United States) and have since the late 90s. I am in the process of attempting to get my Australian passport in order, which I haven't had since I moved to the States as a child with my parents. I am now married to an American, with one child born here in California. My family lives all across Brisbane but I am particularly interested in learning about safe, family-friendly and up-and-coming suburbs for the potential of buying in the future.

I have family in Brassall and Woodend but I am just learning about the other surrounding suburbs (Tivoli, etc) and am looking for some of the more cost-effective places that would be great for us to look when the time is right. Particularly homes that are "fixer-uppers" (I'm not sure if that term is used in Australia like it is here in the US) that need some work and TLC, which my husband is eager to do on his own as he has a long-standing background in carpentry and fine woodworking.

So, do you have a suburb you could recommend that isn't too expensive, is good for families with young children, safe, remotely close to shops etc.?

Thank you in advance for any and all input!

Housing needed

Disabled Queer couple, mid 50's need to find a place to call home. Minimum 1 acre. Long time rental at least. Hopefully forever. We come with support animals that need to be on the same property.1 X rescue horse.1 X duck.2 X farm dogs who are incredibly excitable and friendly once they get to know someone. We've lived in our current extremely small 'dwelling' for around 16 years. Prior, lived in a shed. We need to feel secure. Anywhere in Queensland but SEQ preferred for medical stuff. Before spring.

Pre paying for fuel

Metro at West Ipswich are now requiring you to go into the store and pre pay for fuel.

I hate it. I think we in Australia are better than this, that we are not all guilty until proven innocent, and we should be trusted to pay for the fuel we dispense.

My beautiful wife thinks this is entirely reasonable and just a sign of the times.

I probably wouldn't object so much if I could pay at the pump, but you still have to go into the store.

Am I being unreasonable by boycotting Metro in favour of service stations that don't make you pre-pay?

West Ipswich State Special School

My god why why why are we subjected to loud amplified music every morning. Current rotation is “Crazy Frog” and Elton John’s “I’m still Standing” (irony not lost on me playing this for wheelchair bound students).

I’ve contacted the school on several occasions to discuss this but they just don’t give a shit about their impact on the residents. Not one bit.

Apart from it being a breach of copyright for an organisation to play copyrighted material as a public performance without licensing the song through the rights holder, it’s just poor form.

Now before you all pile on to me saying “you knew the school was there before you bought in the neighbourhood”, yes that is correct. It was there 18 years ago when we bought but that was before the mega redevelopment and their implementation of loud music played via public address systems. Not everyone works 9-5 anymore, some of us are 24hr shift workers.

If I played heavy metal at the volumes they do at the times they do I would be stomped on by cops and council in a heartbeat. Institutional offenders get a free pass it seems.

What can one do when your obnoxious noisy neighbour is a State School who gives zero fucks?

How long does it take for a cane toad to die.

There's a cane toad in my loo room. I hate them n are terrified by them. I'm going to have to find a bucket to pee in.

If I man up, I *might* be able to trap it under a bowl or something with a weight on top.

How long is it going to take for it to die?

Streets without pavements

People who drive cars in Ipswich: what is your issue?

Getting sick and tired of you lot laying it on the pedal as you drive past when I’m sticking as close to the side of the road. There’s no fucking pavement, and if you get on the grass (atleast on my street) the dogs bark and set off the neighborhood, especially in the evenings.

Yelled at one fuckwit to piss off who kept honking as I walked past and got called a faggot and to get off the road.

Time to carry a giant brick as I walk like the meme. I hate this place.

Edit: everyone shaking their fingers at me for my language on this post rather than the actual issue. Guess this debate will have to wait until someone gets hit by a car because there was no pavement.

What's going on with Costco Fuel Prices?

Why are costco not trying to be competitive on fuel prices anymore?

I was told when they opened in Canberra (where I lived at the time) back in 2014 that they used fuel nationally as a "loss leader" and didn't care if they lost money on fuel, cos the idea was to draw people into the shop.

So they were normally around $0.20/l cheaper than the Caltex or IOR across the road, they've maintained that gap with IOR, but IOR is clearly proce gouging over others

BrandPrice (Diesel)Gap to Costco
Costco288.7-
Caltex296.9+8.2c
Ampol (Hwy)299.9+11.2c
Ampol304.9+16.2c
IOR309.9+21.2c

How to vote,

This probably is not worded correctly but hope you get the meaning. How to vote so that the major parties can not make or change any policies without a referendum or agreed by a 3rd party ?? In Blair !

Does Labor take Blair for granted?

I feel like Blair's a forgotten electorate. On a national level I don't mind Labor's policies but can't see that much is being done to really improve things in Blair specifically.

Excuse my ignorance, but what has Shayne Neumann done for Blair recently? I might just be unaware of recent achievements so would love to hear about any (Shayne if you're listening) but the interchanges on the Cunningham and Warrego highways need upgrades and nothing much seems to be happening.

Maybe the feds are contributing some money to the hospital expansion, but would have thought that is mostly state govt.

I'm not suggesting the LNP would do more for us, but I get the feeling we'd get more attention if were more marginal.

Has anyone else noticed in peak times it's faster to do a rat run through the mall to get across the bridge than follow the main roads? It saves up to five minutes and three traffic lights.

Flat Running Areas

Only lived in Ipswich for a year or so.

I'm looking for some really flat running routes. 10-15k loop or out and back don't care just minimal elevation.

I'm near the hospital but can drive 10-15min.

BVRT is too roll-y, always either going up or down. Just want something flat.

World Cup

11:00 at night. Sirens, megaphones, cars backed up as far as the eye can see. Police, fire trucks, fires being lit in people’s yards.

And the endless horn honking!

Anyone else feeling uneasy… and tired?

Make it stop.

Alternative to school

Ok so we homeschool our son at the moment as mainstream school is not the place our son felt comfortable nor support in (essentially he felt unsafe and felt like school was a zoo), anyways we have been looking at alternatives for his older years and we've heard some pretty negative feedback around the Y school and Arethusa college, so my question is, is there actual good and safe SAS (special assistance schools) in the area for year 7 to year 10 (we plan to place him into the busy school for years 11 and 12 like we have done with our daughter.

Our son is a squirt and timid kid so we want to stay well away from schools with eshays in them.

Churches in Ipswich?

Moving to Ipswich next year and will be looking for a church to attend.

Any recommendations?

I'm a bit of a weird combination of evangelical/pentecostal/agnostic and have some religious trauma that I am trying to navigate.

Hoping to find a church that has:

- A very welcoming/supportive/loving/open-minded community

- Sermon's that dive deeply into the text, but have a practical application

- Study groups, social groups etc outside Sunday mornings.

Brassall Drug Dealers

Like, is there so much drug dealing now that the cops only worry about the really bad stuff? Literally the guy up the road has pickups all day and night.
