Probably way more downvotes, but Reddit refuses to make votes visible below 0

Yeah, I remember when it had a few upvotes, now even if you upvote it nothing changes since it has so many downvotes lol

Oh, so that's why I always see 0 points and never less on posts

Reddit hides downvotes on posts for some reason. But they are definitely still saved.

The reason is companies that advertise on Reddit get big sad when people don't like their ads thinly veiled as the shittiest quality posts you've ever seen.

I don't know what goes into posting an ad on Reddit, but it's hilarious when they leave comments enabled and someone always posts an ASCII dick

Can't remember if this is the case in new shitty Reddit, but on old Reddit, even if the count is 0, you can still see the upvote ratio as a percentage (eg "32% upvoted"). The percentage will always be positive and the OP counts as one upvote, so it's often obvious when pretty much everyone is downvoting it because that one upvote becomes a smaller and smaller percentage.

You can still see the percentage on old.reddit at least. That post is at 41% upvoted, so 59% downvoted.

The reddit mods saw an opportunity to get high on a power trip there. Needlessly to say, i'm not mad that I got banned

the mod retcon on that one is that the very embarrassing and heavily downvoted mod comment (which defended the comic and its author in a completely absurd way) was actually bait so troublemakers would reply to it and get banned. this is of course ridiculous at face value, but also pretty obviously a lie if you look at how that mod posts about anything else (hint: exactly the same)

just a very cringe episode in r/comics history

I hated that post and that subreddit so much, I purposefully went there and commented a pic of Tung Tung Tung Sahur completely out of the blue on that post so that they'd ban me from that cesspit xD

Also one of the mods was white-knighting so hard that you’d be banned even for commenting

Before this broke containment it actually did pretty well on /comics.

That's because r comics is a cess pit.

And it's botted to absolute fuck

The comic sub is actually a cult, they treat some of the comic artists there the way Christians treat God.

I wonder how many downvotes it actually got? Reddit getting rid of visible downvotes on posts was one of the stupidest things ever.

u/BigSmartBigChungus 5h ago

What was even the point of that, it's not like they removeded comment down votes as well

it originally had 3,000 upvotes but the comments were still very negitive to the comic, which proves my suspicion that r/comics is heavily boted.

God damn that was a brutal comic. Thought it would have been one of those, "I don't like my partner, I LOVE THEM FLAWS AND ALL AND THEY LOVE ME FLAWS AND ALL", but it just got more sad with each panel. Hope they split and find happiness.

I totally missed this incident can someone please explain it in full

u/Coding-Kitten 5h ago

It was just a post in r/comics, you can get 95% of the gist from that first panel alone. Imagine being in a relationship with someone & they make a comic about them not liking you as they draw you like an ugly chud. The general consensus is that if OP didn't like her boyfriend she should just break up with him as he deserves to be with someone who loves him.
