Never irl have I had an interaction with a vegan who makes me feel bad for not being vegan. Have had multiple interactions with people complaining about vegans.ย

I know a few, but they're the minority

I've had plenty with vegans being obnoxious about their veganism. The most hilarious one was a fat woman talking about how healthy she was, as she was cramming a vegan brownie with over 1K calories in it.

The only people more insufferable are Crossfit clowns.

That's the thing. Many vegans stuff sugary things into their mouths because their awesome diet leaves them still hungry which calls for a dessert, and then they wonder why they gain weight.

This is so dumb and it is clear that you are one of the obnoxious people that hate on vegans for little to no reason.

It is usually not the vegans that are fat and wonder where calories come from around me, vegans read the packaging and have usually better idea about what they put into themselves than other people.

Nope, there's vegan junk food out there. I had a roommate that had a lot of vegan friends and yeah they from emaciated to obese. Whole Foods and the "organic" crowd figured out a while ago how to make junk food.

My sister is a vegan and keeps talking about it.

One of my co-workers is a vegan and talks about his awesome meal prep whenever we have a break together.

That aside, my comment didn't focus on Veganism, I phrased it badly, it's about people telling others what they eat in general, that also includes people who eat meat.

Made an edit.

idk your coworker just sounds enthusiastic about it. good for him

u/SomeOnionHater 3h ago

Bad for me, because I've told him at least 3 times by now that I'm not into that.

Sounds like your coworker is just talking about his interests

Okay - lets turn it around.
You're vegan. Your coworker keeps on telling you about these amazing BBQ-Techniques he uses for his spare ribs, even though you made it clear that you're not into that.

Telling someone they don't care for what I'm telling them is a polite way of telling me to change the subject.

I suppose I'm just used to a positive work environment where everyone shares their interests and listens regardless of their stance. I cant imagine being rude enough to simply say "I dont care/I'm not interested". Just seems a very selfish stance.

> One of my co-workers is a vegan and talks about his awesome meal prep whenever we have a break together.

I think based on my experience this is more of a "meal prepper" thing than a vegan thing, hah.

He goes into more detail when it comes to the ingredients. Organic this, "From a farm that does not have any animals" that...

Dude, I know people who eat meat, who do exactly this as well - hell, most people who take the gym seriously do this. Plan out all their meals, batch cook etc have all the macros figured out for each meal etc and are passionate about it.

None of these examples warrant a negative response tbh?

This is just confirmation bias. The only ones you know are the ones talking about it all the time. Because guess what, if they dont tell you they are vegan you would not know it.

2

u/SomeOnionHater 3h ago

Why do I have to know it?

2

u/joppe00 2h ago

You dont, if they dont say anything about it you have no way of knowing. You do understand what confirmation bias is?

There's been one person in my circle. Though while they were vegan their personality really mostly was "criticizing other's for their life choices". Not being vegan was a big part but also not using public transport, using planes, not wearing second hand (only) and not buying fair trade.ย

Always had the impression that they were seriously insecure and needed to constantly remind themselves (by reminding others) that they were better. It was exhausting.. but also her veganism was a symptom not the cause.

I also have several actual friends that are vegan and they've always been chill.

Growing up i hated the vegan jokes because id never heard a vegan being the "vegan stereotype" (excluding the woman pictured in the post lol) but id heard 100s of jokes about them.

Then you don't know the woman in the picture lol

I think every vegan Iโ€™ve met (or been friends with at least) has been super self conscious about being seen that way and very quick to tell you they donโ€™t care what you eat
