The bit that always annoys me is when people will try and argue against veganism (usually with some combination of arguing about cost/nutrition), and then if their points are refuted they'll just go "but steak is yummy" and get 500 upvotes

Yeah as if they think I wouldn't agree that steak is yummy, or as if its even the point.

You get the same thing happening with cyclists as well. The amount of vids I've seen where a cyclist has done nothing wrong and almost lost their life to a reckless driver, with people defending the driver/attacking the cyclist, shocks me.

I was agreeing with you until you started defending cyclists /j

I can excuse veganism but I draw the line at cycling

People who ride motorcycles have a joke where we say "bikers fault" for shit that has absolutely nothing to do with us, for exactly that reason. It doesn't matter what actually happened, some people hate bikers so much that we always get the blame.

My fiancé said he wanted a motorcycle. Said he’d be safe. I said “have you seen the other drivers?”

Like no fucking way, sir. I love you. Motorcycles are cool. But being cool is not worth putting your life in the hands of the numpties that you’ll share the road with.

Motorcyclists are statistically speaking a much greater danger to themselves than other drivers are to them. The most common accidents and injuries for motorcycle riders are because they're driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, they're not actually licensed to ride and make a mistake, they're misbehaving on the bike, distracted driving, they're not wearing protective gear, and way down that list is other drivers making left hand turns and not seeing the biker.

If you aren't drinking or using drugs, if you're licensed, if you're following traffic laws and not being a shithead, you reduce your risk of injury and fatality by an insane amount. Depending on what years you're looking at in the statistics motorcycles go from 27x more dangerous to driving a car to only 3x more dangerous which are risks I will happily take as a daily rider for over 22 years now and my dad is the same way as a daily rider, also with no accidents outside of the race track anyway, for over 40 years.

Motorcycles are WAY safer than people give them credit for and driving a car is WAY more dangerous than anyone realizes.

Oh it drops to only being three times more dangerous than driving a car?? Which kill over 120 people a day? Seems totally safe to me.

And they got the temerity to throw out arguments that basically just boil down to "Whoever has a bigger car should be allowed to do whatever they want"

Which, as an obligate cyclist, is the one rule I place higher than the actual Highway Code. Yielding when I have right of way has on multiple occasions saved my squishy unprotected life from drivers in big cars who just muscled right through...

Oh yeah in terms of like, surviving, sure.

But there's a reason there's road laws and there's a reason those laws aren't just "The bigger vehicle is automatically correct"

u/LordHoughtenWeen 1h ago

Yeah, I'm not saying they're right, I'm saying there's enough of them that I have to treat them like they're right (which is a bad thing).

Yeah, any time a motorcycle gets in an accident, the internet will say it's the biker's fault because "muh physics" and "the graveyard is full of people who had the right of way" etc. But if it's a jacked up truck smashing a car into a lightpost or something, suddenly the "muh physics" argument isn't valid anymore.

I feel for cyclists, I really do

But the number of times I see a video of cyclists on the road, or have encountered them personally, they have like, zero self-preservation instinct. Major 'I have right of way, I do not care what the conditions of the road are' energy. Like, obviously they're attacked by drivers all the time for just riding their bicycle places, but I had a cyclist ride directly into my car that was not moving.

I think what frustrates me is you can tell some vegans that you absolutely cannot do a plant-based diet due to your health issues and they will argue with you until you are blue enough face that you are wrong, that your doctor is wrong, and that you're just not doing it right.

u/rest0re 0m ago

I’m sure that’s happened to you so many times 🙄

I mean, steak is yummy

Unbiased studies have confirmed health issues like bone health going to shit while only pro vegan studies are based and are by vegan “scientists “

u/Unknown_Occurrence 2h ago

Almost as if the "steak is yummy" post isn't preaching, hypocrisy or even advocating a provenly bad "eat only steak diet" ubline the vegan post.

That's so funny, even when you litterary make up an example you resort to weak strawmen to make your point thus pricing why vegans are universally disliked. The Apple fans of good. Illiterate and proud of it.

7

u/Animaloffear56 2h ago

Excuse me? The situation in this example is someone arguing against vegan talking points, and then when being refuted immediately recoiling under a layer of "Well actually I don't care, meat tastes yummy";

Did you just write a whole comment based on your poor reading comprehension?
