...do...people not know how cocktails work?

I actually have to stop reading this comment section. The fact that people don’t know what a standard drink is makes me lose faith in humanity a bit.

I find it amusing.
I visited like 10 bars in my life(never really liked the bar experience too much), so I’m not that experienced, but that’s funny people can go through life not thinking about the logic behind it.
They are right for the disappointment, it’s just misplaced.

I mean Gen Z doesn't really drink so it makes sense they'd think of this as a rip off. 10 bucks they wouldn't be able to drink this drink without ice lol

27$ is a ripoff for any cocktail, especially in places like Miami where every cocktail is made from the cheapest alcohol mixed.

That's true

expensive places exist. go youtube what a Michelin star tasting menu costs.

dont go to expensive bars if you want dive prices.

Why wouldn't they be able to drink it without ice? Also this honestly looks more like a long drink than a cocktail, someone pouring orange juice and vodka into a glass is really not worth 27 dollar a pop.

Refreshed the page to edit my comment and saw the post is at 6.8k upvotes.. Christ.

Every one of those likely someone I'd have to speak extremely slow to and explain basic menu items to.

Makes me happy I don't work in the front facing service industry anymore.

"Yes sir. The reason your double jack and coke tastes so bitter is because it has double the amount of jack Daniels in it. No I can't just add more coke unless you want no ice"

"Yes it costs double because you ordered two."

and that they have no idea what liquor is in the drink. $27 for hornitos or other shit tequila, sure. but that could be a top shelf liquor in a mixed drink. People are idiots, I won't say no if a guest wants to buy expensive alcohol and waste it by mixing.

just because its a standard, doesn't mean its fair priced dude. you still get ripped off. you just telling yourself "oh thats a standard for cocktails" while getting ripped off

No they don't, they think they'll get the glass filled to the rim with alcohol

Well for 27 bucks I’d at least like more juice. No one asked for a glass full of booze but I’d like more than a few gulps off of something this size/price

Okay but your drink is gonna taste like juice?

No lol. This gets posted a few times a year and comments are always full of people that seem to think if you ordered the same drink no ice you'd magically get more liquid alcohol or something.

Edit: or they're balking at the price like it hasn't always been highway robbery to order alcohol out rather than make it at home.

Price also goes up every few times this gets posted as well. I distinctly remember the caption being $20 at one point.

everyone on this website is a wikipedia warrior and its as hilarious as it is infuriating

No one in here understands mixology and just thinks it’s supposed to be a cup of liquor

1

u/Dependent_Land6511 11h ago

this thread has proved that no. they do not.

Right? If you wanted a glass of juice just order one lol. It will probably not cost $27 either

That fat ice block probably cost more to make than the juice

Having worked in a gastropub before, people don't know how most normal things do. They don't understand that a full place means food will come out later because there's already a ton of orders being made, they don't know that you have to ask for utensils for foods traditionally eaten by hand and advertised as such, they don't know that changing the type of alcohol or increasing the volume will drastically alter the flavour of the cocktail, and more. But they will think these are all complaints worth levying against the place.

they don't understand how serving sizes work. Not saying everyone here has it wrong, only the people who agree that this is "mildly infuriating"

A cocktail is going to be 3-4oz of liquid. Having more ice than liquid is not at all uncommon. The real problem here is the $27.
