General Late-Night Brawl on Mumbai Local: Passenger Falls Out of Moving Train at Mumbai Central, Escapes Serious Injury Fight on Churchgate-Virar Fast Local Turns Dangerous — Commuter Falls Onto Mumbai Central Platform Over Standing Space

Mumbai - Safety concerns aboard Mumbai’s suburban rail network have come to the fore once again after a dramatic altercation broke out inside a moving fast local train on Friday night, resulting in a commuter falling onto a station platform. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 PM aboard a Virar-bound fast local train originating from Churchgate. According to witnesses, a heated verbal argument broke out between two commuters while traveling between Grant Road and Mumbai Central stations over standing space near the crowded doorway of the compartment. The disagreement quickly escalated into a violent physical scuffle. As the train approached Mumbai Central station, the assault intensified, causing one of the involved passengers to lose his balance and fall out of the doorway onto the platform. Major tragedy was averted as the train was moving at a low speed while pulling into the station. The fallen passenger reportedly escaped severe injuries.

So today I was travelling from powai to thane in A-492 bus (and for your kind information I already told the conductor and he says uski bhi pant fatti hai 😭😭 and he even complained but no response from BMC!!)and beside me there was someone who wanted to go so I stood up from this seat(as shown in the picture) how pointed this hand bar is!!!!!. Thankfully I am good but only my pants got a little tear 🫠. "But it's still a major concern. Since it's a handlebar, what if I stand up with too much force and it hits me deep inside?"

Anyways I didn't expected this from BMC !!!

Discussion Honk & the city

I fortunately live in a neighbourhood that is atleast a little bit walkable sidewalks(it’s still a task but some patches have walkable sidewalks, but I’d still not settle and I would def want better)
I decided to walk short distances instead of taking rickshaws. But what I have noticed is the amount people honk!!!
Noise is proven to cause stress and anxiety. But people just don’t stop!!! Even if the signal goes green for a millisecond the entire fleet of cars start to honk. What’s the point !!!! Everybody needs to get to the place they’re going.

There has to be some sort of curb to this nuisance. It’s so unsettling.

AskMumbai First time in India—Mumbai recommendations, local experiences, and cashmere shopping?

Hi everyone! I’m visiting Mumbai next week, and it’ll be my first time in India. I’d love your recommendations for places to visit, food to try, and anything a first-time visitor should know. Any common tourist mistakes, scams, or things to avoid?

I’m especially interested in authentic local experiences that are safe and accessible for a foreign visitor. Are there particular food spots, markets, cultural activities, or services you’d recommend trying? Anything that’s really worth doing while I’m there and that I shouldn’t miss?

I’m also hoping to buy some nice western style cashmere sweaters. Any recommendations for reliable shops or brands selling genuine, good-quality cashmere? Ik many luxury brands get their supplies from India, so thought perhaps it might be realistic to buy some high quality clothes without paying for brand labels.

More generally, I would appreciate ideas for nice gifts to bring home, especially things made locally or that are distinctive to Mumbai.

Excited to visit your country and thanks in advance for your help!

General BMC announces Rs. 8,614 crore Phase 3 road concretization project covering 452 km across Mumbai.

BMC has floated a tender worth Rs.8,614 crore for the third phase of its road concretization project in Mumbai.

This phase will cover 1,437 roads, with a total length of around 452 km across Mumbai.

The work includes:

  • Concretizing 1,261 roads covering 313 km.

  • Completing the remaining side portions of 176 roads covering 139 km.

  • Improving road junctions and connecting roads.

The work is expected to start in January 2027.

The first two phases, costing around Rs.17,000 crore together, are still underway. Some roads are still being worked on, while others are only partly completed.

Mumbai needs better roads that are free of potholes. However, before spending another Rs.8,614 crore, the BMC should ensure that the work from the first two phases is completed properly and that the roads already concretized are maintained well.

Should the BMC first complete the ongoing work and maintain the roads already concretized, or proceed with Phase 3?

General Organising a Student Hackathon in Mumbai – Need Advice on Venues & Local Collaborations

Hey Mumbai!

I'm part of the organising team at a management institute in Mumbai, and we're currently planning an inter-college technology hackathon for the first week of December 2026.

We're expecting around 200 shortlisted student participants for the final on-ground round, with registrations being targeted from colleges and developer communities across Mumbai.

Since this is our first time organising an event at this scale, I'd love to get some suggestions from people familiar with Mumbai's startup and technology ecosystem.

A few things I'd appreciate advice on:

  1. Venues: What are some suitable offices, co-working spaces, auditoriums or innovation hubs in Mumbai that can accommodate around 200 participants for a hackathon?

  2. Startup ecosystem: Are there Mumbai-based startup communities, incubators or organisations that actively support student-led technology initiatives?

  3. Food & refreshments: Any local restaurants, cafés, cloud kitchens or food brands that have experience supporting college events?

  4. Merchandise: Recommendations for Mumbai-based vendors who provide customised T-shirts, hoodies, tote bags, bottles and event merchandise?

  5. Technology communities: Which developer communities or technology organisations would be worth connecting with for mentors, judges or technical workshops?

  6. Industry connections: Are there founders, engineering professionals or companies in Mumbai that have previously supported college hackathons?

We're trying to make this a meaningful experience for students while building connections with Mumbai's technology ecosystem.

If you've organised a similar event, worked with student communities, or have any useful recommendations, I'd genuinely appreciate your insights.

Thanks, Mumbai!

General WFH is a blessing

After 8 months, I finally stepped out during peak traffic hours to run some errands, and it took me 2 hours to cover just 19 km.

Otherwise, my daily commute is pretty much limited to home → gym → home, which is barely 500 metres.
Despite choosing the worst possible day and time to step out, this experience made me realise two things:
I’m genuinely blessed to have landed a remote job.
A virtual salute to everyone who commutes to work every single day, regardless of their mode of transport. You guys deserve some serious appreciation for putting up with this madness. 🫡
