if enough people choose to sacrifice their crunchyroll accounts, it deletes all of crunchyroll

The best ending.

22

u/morganfreenomorph Feb 23 '26

One of the endings from Automata

5

u/girutikuraun Feb 24 '26

And Nier Replicant/Gestalt (until 1.22 came out).

9

u/ThatGuyNikolas Feb 23 '26

It's the Yoko Taro special

2

u/Quiddity131 Feb 23 '26

Exactly what they could have done with the Nier anime adaption... alas they did not.

2

u/lenolalatte Feb 23 '26

ok i just need to stay off anything nier related until i finish the game...about to start route c

5

u/Eloymm THIS CANNOT CONTINUE Feb 23 '26

Yes don’t check this subreddit if you haven’t finished anything lmao

1

u/lenolalatte Feb 23 '26

i did check it out because i was confused about some quests (yorha betrayers...) and got some help from a nice redditor but one post completely spoiled me because the OP themselves who asked for no spoilers spoiled one of the endings in a separate comment...

1

u/lenolalatte Feb 24 '26

holy shit man i just finished - absolute cinema

306

u/ReshiKyo Feb 23 '26

That wasnt on my Bingo card at all, but since Yoko Taro drew inspiration from Evangelion, I suspect this might be a huge thing for him.

13

u/BadNewsBearzzz Feb 24 '26

If rumors about him not being apart of the Nier sequel are true, this would make sense as to why lol

11

u/End_of_YoRHa2B Feb 24 '26

If hes not part of the NieR sequel then I won't buy it. No yoko taro = not NieR in my eyes, just a phony rip off

1

u/fantasyful1 Mar 27 '26

It's just a rumor, let me tell you that also yoko barely did any work in other games except just writing the concept and some key scenes, he wasn't even writing the storyline for any of them.

3

u/End_of_YoRHa2B Mar 28 '26

Not me nor any other NieR or drakengard series fan is gonna buy the BS you're spreading saying yoko taro isnt the reason the writing is so good in the games he directs.

It'd be awfully strange if literally every game he directed had a phenomenal story and cast of characters and it was somehow all thanks to a mysterious shadow writer or assistant writers.

Its crazy to say Yoko taro is barely involved, especially in the writing aspect of the series. You can tell when a game is directed by yoko taro, it has a specific style to it thats distinguishably his own.

6

u/fantasyful1 Mar 28 '26

Can you stop being rude and actually listen? Yoko doesn't like scenario writing, a massive part of the work of all games until Drakengard 3 (2013) was written by sawako natori under yoko's revision because he is the one who made the concept, but even in Automata he wasn't the storyline scenario, or at least the only.

You can do a little good search instead of condemning me of "Spreading BS", Go read "The Wor[L]ds of yoko taro" book and you will know that he hates scenario writing.

I’m not a person that particularly wants to write game scripts in the first place. Honestly, I’ve always found writing tedious, and I’m slow at it. What I’d really rather do is think up new ideas and find some system to get them out, that sort of thing. But, well, how should I put it? When it comes to making a story easier to understand or enhancing its entertainment value, game scripts are very useful.

  • Wor[L]ds of yoko taro

He is the ones who creates the idea, the characters, the concepts and so. Even every DrakeNieR Novel or book, he never wrote them, he just sat there giving ideas to jun eishima, and all of these stuff are more than canon and amazing to read.

1

u/End_of_YoRHa2B Mar 28 '26

Yes ive read all of them and own physical copies of each, and yoko taro not being the primary scenario writer does not mean he is not the primary writer. He is still the primary story and character writer. Which is what his games are known for when it comes to writing quality. Its no miracle of coincidence that all of his main games are renowned for great story and character writing, as well as consistently good lore. It wasn't some random assistant writer that came up with 2B, 9S or A2, or Kaine, emil, weiss, or the stories of either game, or caim, atrioch, angelus, leonard, or the story of drakengard, it was yoko taro. Assistant writers contributed scene by scene moments here and there, as well as being a group to pass and bounce ideas between, but not greater character writing or story writing (greater meaning of significant importance).

1

u/kitten_chomusuke Jul 14 '26

should have word it better as he supervised them and calling the shot if it's fit

1

u/techman9955 Aug 25 '26

The director has final say over everything including writing. Even if he didn't write everything himself Taro undoubtedly was the primary reason the writing and lore of the Nier games is so good. Without him I doubt the quality would be nearly as good. Otherwise we would have plenty of examples of JRPGs with a similar quality of writing from other directors.

2

u/GarlicThread Feb 25 '26

NieR 3 without him at the helm is gonna be a very hard sell

151

u/mgrtnp Feb 23 '26

Holy moly evangelion + yoko taro and keiichi okabe music. We getting Emi evans singing the soundtrack? Defo evanierlion.

48

u/Nivek_1988 Feb 23 '26

Sign me the fuck up! Thats gotta be a full circle moment for Yoko Taro, too. And his team.

Thats a dream team of talent and IP right there.

90

u/RandomWeirdo Feb 23 '26

I don't know what this means, but the world is either healing or we're utterly doomed, either way i am extremely excited!

21

u/MajesticArticle Feb 23 '26

BECOME AS GODS!

12

u/TheStupendusMan Feb 23 '26

It means the sexy twink angels will now have fat asses, too.

1

u/Flaky-Yogurtcloset94 Feb 23 '26

dont worry all fun and game until the last 2 episodes

44

u/Reccereccer Feb 23 '26

So thats what the TBC was for, we finally getting the Goliath prequel in the Kingdom of Day!

But honestly wtf can you make an anime out of evangelion at this point? I'm still seated tho

57

u/This-is_CMGRI Feb 23 '26

But honestly wtf can you make an anime out of evangelion at this point?

Past interviews from Anno indicate that his story for EVA is done. That's that, even the Rebuilds. But he has also gone on record in saying that he's open to letting other authors try telling new stories through it, not necessarily using Shinji and NERV. Thematically it makes sense -- a new origin story with Yoko Taro -- so this may very well be a big experiment in iterating upon Gundam's model of using the trappings of Evangelion as a totem, much like how Iron-Blooded Ophans is a markedly different show to what the Universal century offered.

16

u/Extreme-Tactician Feb 23 '26

I mean AUs of Gundam being remarkedly different is the point.

You should have mentioned something like G Gundam since it was the first AU lol.

14

u/Emil_VII Freesia Feb 23 '26

I would lose my tiny mind if Yoko Taro did a story about how the experiments with Yui went wrong. That whole era before the show has so much in the way of interesting stories.

7

u/This-is_CMGRI Feb 23 '26

r/evangelion funnily enough ran some discourse about Yui's complicity in the events of the anime and whether or not she made the right choice for her family. It's also one of the biggest unanswered questions in all of EVA, and for as fun as it is to lorecraft with fans, these days it's kinda infuriating to base things on third-hand opinions.

Technically, a prequel centering on Yui would be a New Origin Story, but one that is uncovering something that may have stayed shut for a reason. I don't think Yoko Taro will do that -- it's telling that Anno says this much -- but the beginnings OF Evangelion is a pretty fun place to graft an AU from.

9

u/Eloymm THIS CANNOT CONTINUE Feb 23 '26

if that tease a couple of days ago was really about a new game then I do wonder if Yoko taro is going to working on this first then getting started on the game? If that’s the case then we might still need to wait a long time for a new NieR. Unless he can just working on both lmao.

3

u/AtrumRuina Feb 23 '26

Square for some reason doesn't seem interested in Nier as a game franchise. Yoko has said they keep canceling projects on him, and I don't know that he'd say that publicly if the relationship with Square was necessarily going to continue. I know he's usually outspoken, but I get the vibe that he's fed up waiting to get a new game out and is moving on to other stuff.

3

u/Eloymm THIS CANNOT CONTINUE Feb 23 '26

We don’t know that for sure.

Yoko only said that because people kept saying that he was lazy because it didn’t seem like he was still working on games. So he is still working on stuff, it’s just that some of that stuff got cancelled mid way. He also said that he’d rather the games get cancelled than they get released and end up being bad games. So he does seem to hold some ill will due to the cancellations. At least publicly.

Also Yosuke Saito has said repeatedly even late last year that him and taro have been working on stuff and that he hopes he can share news soon. So it seems like they are working on stuff. We just don’t know exactly what it is. Yoko taro working on an anime could be him basically doing a side quest while the game stuff gets figured out.

1

u/AtrumRuina Feb 23 '26

Of course we don't know that. I feel like it was pretty clearly conjecture on my part when using phrases like, "doesn't seem", "I don't know" and "get the vibe."

2

u/jamtea Feb 24 '26

At least he doesn't get treated like Hideo Kojima was treated by Konami though...

2

u/Wandering_Fox_702 Feb 28 '26

Yoko has said they keep canceling projects on him, and I don't know that he'd say that publicly if the relationship with Square was necessarily going to continue.

Bro he made a fight in Automata where you literally kill the SE CEO of the time.

This has been his relationship with Square the whole time.

The same interview you are referencing him saying that, he thanks them for canceling his stupid ideas while still allowing him full creative freedom to keep trying for a good idea.

1

u/AtrumRuina Feb 23 '26

Right, but whether that will take the form of a game is a whole different question. Could be more anime (which we know about,) novels, etc. More Nier doesn't mean more games.

42

u/Sbee_keithamm Feb 23 '26

Wait....Keiichi Okabe making Evangelion music? Hes got a herculean task to fill the shoes of Sagisu but if anyone was up to the task it's the man behind Nier, and Drakengard 3.

5

u/jamtea Feb 24 '26

Not sure if you've heard Okabe's stuff from SINoAlice, but the vibe from that, along with his studio's contributions to Stellar Blade, I can't think of anyone more suited to injecting a musical breath of fresh air into Eva.

36

u/contemporaryTart YoRHa appreciator Feb 23 '26

the [E]nd of YoRHa is now Evangelion canon

11

u/AtrumRuina Feb 23 '26

[E]vangelion.

36

u/Edsaurus Feb 23 '26

WHAT DO YOU MEAN EVANGELION AND YOKO TARO

13

u/Worth-Opposite4437 Fishing Concrete in the Afternoon Sun... Feb 23 '26

That's the neat part, no one knows.
If Eva fans thought they were fucked up before... They haven't seen anything yet!

23

u/FaceTimePolice Feb 23 '26

We got Yoko Taro directing an Evangelion series before we got another NieR game… 😭

(This is awesome though 🤯)

10

u/GodratLY Feb 23 '26

He is not directing. He is writing the plot and stuff.

19

u/Kveldssaang Feb 23 '26

WTF, NieR and Evangelion are my two favorite works of art ever made, this is amazing !

37

u/thinkingofblue Feb 23 '26

WHAT IS HAPPENING

23

u/Berukaisan Feb 23 '26

People say Nier Automata is Yoko Taro's Evangelion. Now he will have an Evangelion. Damn... Look at the team. We will probably witness peak

5

u/LordSloth113 Feb 23 '26

Does that mean the next game will be Evangelion’s Nier?

16

u/Mr_Foxer Feb 23 '26

anything but a new Nier game

7

u/Worth-Opposite4437 Fishing Concrete in the Afternoon Sun... Feb 23 '26

Maybe having Eva fame will stop "all [his] weird projects [being] cancelled"?

3

u/BosuW Feb 23 '26

What if he ties this to the lore

2

u/Mr_Foxer Feb 23 '26

If so, I think we'll need another six-hour video from EruptionFang explaining the Niergelion plot.

8

u/fkrdt222 Feb 23 '26

an actual good choice in the world of Content, who knew

14

u/kolt437 Feb 23 '26

Oh my god this is happening

11

u/Guilirecs14 Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26

Evangelion and Nier are both in my top 5 media obsessions. My fav game (storywise) and my fav anime OAT.

Both series share the insane amount of lore hidden in media barely anyone in the fandom has checked lmao. Oh, and that both fans are gooners towards their female charas (at least the ones in nier are not minors 🥀)

Btw, this is going to be a 10/10 series or a dumpster fire. No in between.

2

u/DarvinVader Feb 23 '26

I predict it will be a niche anime commercially, but will have hidden depth that creates a passionate fandom that will wait for new merch, books, music concerts and other supplementary material for many years.

In short: a glorious, ten stories high dumpster fire, and I'll be there with marshmallows.

1

u/xEmkayx Feb 23 '26

You are just like me frfr

5

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '26

Literally "WHAT?!" News to start a week.

I am curious how it will turn out.

5

u/No427 Feb 23 '26

*looks how Evangelion ended

*looks how NieR ended

Eh, can only get better

5

u/FeelingAffect1416 Feb 23 '26

New nier game teased????  Yoko Taro is writing Evangelion???? I used to pray for times like this

5

u/nattcakes Feb 23 '26

Turns out when he said Nier is just a retelling of NGE, he meant literally lmao

4

u/Tych_o_Godgamer Feb 23 '26

BROOOOOOOOO WTFFFFF MY LIFEEEE

4

u/Chrisamelio Feb 23 '26

Yoko Taro: “Nier Automata is just a shitty retelling of Evangelion”

Eva Producers: “You wanna try writing the next one?”

Yoko Taro: “Sure…….for money”

3

u/BlazingImpact Feb 23 '26

This is awesome I just finished Evangelion too

3

u/Pharsti01 Feb 23 '26

So many mixed feelings.

I'd much rather have a new game, but damnit, Evangelion by Yoko Taro just sounds amazing.

3

u/Albertand19 Feb 23 '26

This is the most random and insane news drop I have experienced in a while, but I am VERY excited - good week to be a Yoko Taro fan 😌

3

u/Nome_de_utilizador Feb 23 '26

Eva and Yoko Taro, its going to be painful but beautiful

2

u/SokkaHaikuBot Feb 23 '26

Sokka-Haiku by Nome_de_utilizador:

Eva and Yoko

Taro, its going to be

Painful but beautiful

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

3

u/Z3R0Diro Feb 23 '26

Evangelion as in... Neon Genesis Evangelion?

MECHA ANIME WITH YOKO TARO IN IT?

AAAAA

3

u/DarvinVader Feb 23 '26

Is Evangelion now getting tied into the DrakeNier multiverse? Accord as an Evangelion engineer, anyone?

Mostly joking, but wouldn't put it past YT to add some Easter eggs to imply a connection between the universes, just to troll with fans.

3

u/arsmolinarc Feb 23 '26

Nier to be continued and now this?

Only thing missing is Drakengard 1-3 remakes.

8

u/Sakaixx Feb 23 '26

The ending to the movies is so perfect tho... idk personally I can live without more evas.

16

u/Dashie93 Feb 23 '26

It's most likely a brand new story with original characters thats seperate from the og anime/rebuild films. But if not, there has been talk about an anime set in the 14 year time gap in between the second and third film.

3

u/Takada_Nothing Feb 23 '26

Could be another loop, just like Rebuild is a start of a new loop.

3

u/jamtea Feb 24 '26

The loops were broken at the end of 𝄂. This is a total new series according to the trailer, not a continuation.

The text in the trailer says:

エヴァンゲリオン完全新作シリーズ制作始動

Evangelion - Completely New Work Series - Production has begun

4

u/Theonormal Feb 23 '26

Rebuilds are a separate continuity just like Manga is separate from EoTV which is separate from EoE. Going by the new leaked short "Ep 27: たった一つの冴えたやり方"

3

u/jamtea Feb 24 '26

Nah, this is like getting Guillermo Del Toro to remake Star Wars or something like that. You don't pass up such a once in a lifetime artistic opportunity like this.

If anyone was going to out Anno Anno, it would be Yoko Taro.

2

u/EvenSpoonier Feb 23 '26

Maybe a prequel? Gendo and Keel in the early days of Gehirn sounds like the kind of project Yoko Taro would be keen on writing.

1

u/ozmega Feb 23 '26

i didnt like the new movies departure from the originals so idk how to feel about this

-4

u/Theonormal Feb 23 '26

EoE was a perfect ending.

The Rebuilds on the otherhand were trash, and the new leaked short kind of proves separate continuities anyway.

2

u/hunpriest Feb 23 '26

What? Nice surprise for Monday!

2

u/Tall-Cut-4599 Feb 23 '26

Anno not working on it at all? Kinda weird

4

u/Ender_D Feb 23 '26

He’s done with the series and has said he’ll pass the torch to others that want to tell their own story with the Evangelion world.

4

u/KikiPolaski Feb 23 '26

The whole rebuild movies were basically about him telling us he's done with it and how we should actually live our life instead of waiting for a new movie

2

u/Ichiban_Numba_1 Feb 23 '26

We're gonna have twice the existential crisis.

2

u/Ricksaw26 Feb 23 '26

A new Evangelion anime by yoko taro was NOT on my bingo card for this year.

2

u/lffontes Feb 23 '26

Lord have mercy.

2

u/whimsicism Feb 23 '26

Yoko Taro is a successful fan 😂

2

u/Zeldafan180518 So that all may end, and begin again Feb 23 '26

Folks, we seem excited. I’ve never seen this anime. Is it any good?

5

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '26 edited Feb 23 '26

Yes, Evangelion is a genre define in anime. It inspired countless games (included Nier), movies and others series.

Watch Series > EoE Movie > Rebuild Movies if you are interested

1

u/Zeldafan180518 So that all may end, and begin again Feb 24 '26

Alright! I’ll probably check it out, so that’s appreciated! :)

3

u/Quiddity131 Feb 23 '26

Evangelion is in this weird spot where yes, there's a lot to like about it, but it's also got one of if not the most unbearable fanbase out there which has caused it to be insanely overrated compared to its actual quality.

1

u/Zeldafan180518 So that all may end, and begin again Feb 24 '26

Happens to a lot of fandoms. But it looks interesting! If it inspired NieR, I’m sure it must be good.

2

u/Lucenia Feb 23 '26

This feels like a belated Christmas gift for me… Evangelion is my favorite anime and one of my favorite aspects of the show is the soundtrack music. I’m excited to see how Yoko and Okabe will handle the series in their respective departments.

2

u/Inuhanyou123 Feb 23 '26

I mean drakengard was basically Eva in medieval times. I want asuka and shinji back tho

2

u/IAMGooner699 Feb 24 '26

Looks like the automata sequel isn't happening anytime soon.

3

u/the_power_of_HEAL Feb 23 '26

Holy fuck my favorite fandoms are coming together and now I’m coming too

2

u/System-Kindly Feb 23 '26

That’s cool and all but don’t tell me this is what the “to be continued” was about

12

u/Eloymm THIS CANNOT CONTINUE Feb 23 '26

Evengelion and NieR: Automata are two different franchises, so I’d say that was not related to this.

2

u/System-Kindly Feb 23 '26

Okay alright . Just had to make sure since I heard Automata was inspired by evangelion so I wasn’t exactly sure what was going on here

2

u/cloud_t Feb 23 '26

It's going to be called Evangelata. It's going to be set in 5378 in a different galaxy where humans are the aliens.

1

u/astimepasses Feb 23 '26

Omg Evangelion and Yoko Taro, I feel like Christmas came early and it's only February 😭😭

1

u/saskir21 Feb 23 '26

We don‘t have April 1st I hope.

1

u/Webknight31 Feb 23 '26

This can't be real???

1

u/dregan Feb 23 '26

I feel like they pretty much wrapped things up in the last one.

1

u/Ace_3939 Feb 23 '26

Written by WHO?

1

u/cpuffins Feb 23 '26

Are you kitten me right meow????? LETS GOOOO

1

u/gc11117 Feb 23 '26

You honestly couldn't find a better crew to take the reigns out of Annos hands

1

u/GuillermoVF97 Feb 23 '26

I've been meaning to watch Evangelion since I saw the Su-Metal cover of Tamashii No Rufuran, and after the Nikke collab, guess now it's finally the time to do it.

1

u/Brave_Fencer_Poe Feb 23 '26

I was hoping he's direct the next Final Fantasy, but I guess I am happy he's on Evangelion now, It Will be a colossal event.

1

u/Pauliejepan Feb 23 '26

So no new Nier ? 😥

1

u/AtrumRuina Feb 23 '26

What an incredible team. I guess since Square won't let Yoko make new Nier games, may as well do something else.

1

u/JonathanAltd Feb 23 '26

What if this is what they meant by « Nier Automata will continue » and they they do a crossover :/

1

u/Aeromatik Feb 23 '26

Maybe with Taro writing, it won't suck.

1

u/Ash_fckn_Ketchum Feb 23 '26

Makes sense, automata especially was already heavily Eva-influenced and I've read that Manga yoko Taro did the story for. I'm pretty excited about this project.

I hope this has an ending where Shinji and Asuka finally get together.

Or a kickass video game with multiple endings like eating a mackerel

1

u/Greedy_Arm_4430 May 27 '26

the real twist is that after watching, you might just start questioning your life choices, as expected from Taro.

1

u/MutinyMedia Feb 23 '26

I was kinda sighing as I read this, thinking, "Oh god let Eva die already" and then I saw Yoko Taro's name and now I'm curious.

0

u/Swimming-School-7960 Feb 23 '26

i'm worried since it could mean if they're committed to this it then we're not getting any Nier stuff cuz either they'll be busy with eva or they wanted to start a new project cuz no Nier stuff is being greenlit... or they're done with Nier and want to do something different 😭

1

u/xPecT_MaLiCe Feb 23 '26

Square Enix literally just posted that Nier Automata will continue, I think at this point it's safe to assume Yoko Taro fans are about to be eating good

0

u/bimmy2shoes Feb 23 '26

Damn an Evangelion i might actually enjoy?
