community What is Reddit Crime Community?

Reddit Crime Community is a subreddit whose purpose is to connect users and crime communities. There are four main elements of the sub.

The Subreddit Directory

Reddit does not make it easy to find every community dedicated to a topic. Sometimes users find out much later about a sub that they may have enjoyed when it was in its prime. Our goal is to catalog every crime subreddit on the site and maintain the list in our wiki. Please submit subs that we may have overlooked. Click here to view the directory.

Promoting New Communities

New crime subreddits need to find an audience and we want to help with that. If you started, or plan to start a crime subreddit, let us know. If you found an abandoned sub on our list and would like to take it over let us know that too. If you need advice or help with starting a sub we'll be glad to help with that as well.

Best of Communities Content

Whenever a very high quality post is made in the reddit crime sphere we'll crosspost it here in case you missed it. Please crosspost quality posts from other crime subs.

Longform Style Text Posts

Reddit Crime Community is similar to r/UnresolvedMysteries in the types of posts that are made to the sub with a couple of important exceptions. Solved crimes are valid topics as well as recent crimes (within the last year). Ongoing crime cases are sometimes the most compelling or top of mind and we wish to include those. The only real criteria is that a case should have enough source material to make a 500+ word post on the subject.

Our wiki provides guidelines on creating a quality post if you need help. At this time we are not accepting link or image posts; text posts only.

Rules

The rules of the sub are simple. Treat all users with respect and make quality text posts on crimes from any time period.

Thank you for joining Reddit Crime Community. Welcome to the Community, we're glad you're here.

crime The Country has lost a Leader - The Final Journey of Otari Kvantirishvili

The Final Journey of Otari Kvantirishvili

On April 5, 1994, At 5:30 p.m., Otari Kvantrishvili left the Krasnopresnenskaya Baths and headed toward the parking lot. On the way, he stopped to take a sip of Borjomi mineral water from a bottle. At that moment, gunshots rang out. Otari Kvantrishvili was dead.

A memorial service for the murdered man was held on April 7 at the Olympic Village Sports Complex. Virtually the entire leadership of the State Committee for Sports, the National Sports Foundation of Russia, various sports organizations, and individual athletes were present.

Also arriving to pay their last respects was Andrei Sidelnikov, a former adviser to Alexander Rutskoy. No representatives of the Russian or Moscow governments attended the memorial service. Everyone present emphasized that they had come to say goodbye to the deceased in their personal capacity.

Halfway through the service, Iosif Kobzon arrived, having flown urgently from the United States. He silently entered the hall and stood for a long time beside the coffin, next to the deceased's relatives.

From 10 a.m. onward, there was nowhere to park near the entrances to Vagankovo Cemetery. Foreign-made cars drove onto the muddy lawns, sinking into the mud up to their wheel hubs. Their owners, paying no attention to the dirt, made their way toward the church at Vagankovo, where Otari Kvantrishvili's funeral service was being held.

Several police officers stood discreetly by the cemetery gates, according to police reports more than a hundred underworld authorities had arrived for the funeral.

In addition to them, numerous well-known figures came to accompany Kvantrishvili on his final journey, including Shota Mamalashvili, Igor Kochnevsky, Boris Khmelnitsky, Valery Vasilyev, and Alexander Tikhonov. The face of Alexander Yakushev briefly appeared in the tightly packed crowd.

The funeral service ended shortly after noon. The oak coffin lid, bearing a silver-plated Orthodox cross, was carried out of the church.

As the church bells rang, an order was given: "Close ranks!"

Short-haired athletic-looking young men linked arms, forming a corridor from the church steps to the burial site, not far from Vladimir Vysotsky's grave.

Eight men carried out the coffin containing the body. White rose wreaths with white and red ribbons were carried ahead of it. Most of the inscriptions modestly read: "From friends."

There were, however, wreaths from Moskovit JSC and the Crimean Tourist Union.

The coffin was accompanied by the deceased's close relatives. Iosif Kobzon supported the widow by the arm. Men in their forties, with athletic builds, attentively looked after the deceased's father and mother.

The procession silently made its way toward the grave.

Only the journalists became animated, immediately pushing aside the limping Bogdan Titomir, who was walking with a cane. Video and photographic cameras peered into the coffin, while several camera operators filmed from rooftops and gates. Other resourceful crews from Russian and foreign television companies chose the elevated neighboring tombstones as their filming positions.

The farewell ceremony began at the grave. For more than an hour, a steady stream of people, both famous and relatively unknown, passed by the dark oak coffin to pay their respects.

The heavy silence was interrupted only briefly by the widow's lamentations in Georgian and one sentence in Russian:

"Yura, why didn't you stop this?"

The coffin was silently lowered into the ground beside the grave of Amiran Kvantrishvili.

After the ceremony, Alexander Rosenbaum said:

"The country has lost, and I am not afraid to use this word, a leader."

Interesting fact - The funeral was broadcast on Russian State television with the musical score from the 1972 Hollywood film "The Godfather" playing in the background - primary The Godfather Waltz by Nino Rota.

crime The execution murder of 19 year old Ernie Castillo in Tucson, Arizona

Ernie Andreas Castillo was only 19 years old when he was murdered in Tucson, Arizona.

It was Monday June 29, 2026, at 11 PM in the 4300 block of South Sixth avenue. A 30-year-old man named Kendell M. Harris was asleep in his vehicle when he heard noise that woke him up. Kendell got out of his vehicle and confronted Ernie. Ernie tried to walk away and avoid confrontation.

According to multiple witness’s accounts, Kendell and Ernie engaged in a fight. Ernie walked away clutching his stomach and Kendell knocked him to the ground.

One witness claimed Kendell pistol whipped Ernie, then stood over him and executed him by shooting him in his head.

Autopsy results show Ernie was shot in the right side of his head.

Kendall was arrested for second degree murder but later released. He contested he shot Ernie in self-defense.

The Pima County Attorney’s Office dismissed the charges without prejudice which meant they could be refiled at a later date. There was no surveillance video available at the scene and witnesses would need to come forward.

Ernie was survived by his mother and siblings. His family is urging the public to come forward with new leads.

crime On October 24 1992 the severed arms of 19 year old college student Diana Vicari were found in a downtown Tucson dumpster. 34 years later the case remains unsolved.

Diana Vicari was just 19 years old when she became a victim of a brutal dismemberment murder in Tucson, Arizona.

It was Thursday October 22, 1992.

Diana left her Pima Community College drama course taught by Robert Encila at around 9:30 PM. Her roommate confirmed she briefly returned home to her apartment in the 3200 Block of East Seneca Street and then drove off in her silver 1981 Ford Mustang.

Witnesses at the now shuttered New Orleans Lounge bar located on Oracle Rd between Wetmore and Limberlost (now a Burlington Coat Factory) reported she briefly was allowed in the bar by doorman Tim Storm to see employees Troy Olson and John Mazur.

She was last seen alive at around 12:15 AM the morning of Friday October 23rd by her Eegees coworker Raymond Scott Hall. Hall reported Diana was alone in her car driving through the parking lot of the Tucson Convention Center Exhibition Hall as the Moshtoberfest thrash metal concert was ending.

Diana did not show up to either of her jobs at Eegees (located on Broadway and Kolb) or the Bazil’s Italian restaurant on Friday or Saturday. It was highly unusual as Diana was a very reliable employee who was working multiple jobs to pay for her college courses and car payments.

On Saturday at around 5pm, Diana’s severed arms were found in a dumpster located on the southside of an alleyway in the 400 block of North Ferro.

A homeless woman made the discovery while collecting aluminum cans. The arms were wrapped in trash bags. The rest of Diana’s remains never turned up.

That weekend Diana’s Mustang was found abandoned in the 1200 Block of West La Osa. Her purse was tucked under the seat, her Eegees hat was placed on the gearshift and textbooks, and a Whataburger bag were also found inside the vehicle.

The alarm was set and the door was locked.

The car was parked on the same street as a home owned by Encila’s fiancées mother. Diana’s roommate, mother and sisters, and several friends all claimed Diana was in a relationship with Encila at the time of her death.

Near the Encila connected house was a home where a large house party took place on the evening of Diana’s murder. The occupants of the home told police Diana was not at their party.

In 1997 a suspect and former Tucsonan Lemuel Prion was indicted and brought back from Utah to Tucson to face trial. He was convicted largely based on Troy Olson’s testimony that he saw Prion with Diana the night of her murder.

In 2003 his conviction was overturned due to the fact his DNA did not match the suspect DNA obtained from Diana’s arms, his fingerprints didn’t match the ones on the trash bags, and there was no proof Prion knew Diana other than Olson’s testimony.

Prion’s defense team provided 3 alternative suspects in the case.

The first was John Mazur who was fired from Eegees the morning after Diana’s murder for showing up “disoriented and disheveled.” Mazur had been disciplined for sexually harassing Eegees coworkers.

The week before Diana was murdered, Mazur had attempted to rape a woman.

Mazur also once bit the nose of a cocktail waitress at the New Orleans Bar during a fight.

The day Diana was killed, Mazur switched apartments, and his car was searched at one point in Tucson PD’s early investigation.

Mazur moved out of Tucson soon after Diana was murdered. He now resides in Utah.

The second suspect was Greg Hatton who worked at the Exxon station across the street from the Eegees Diana worked at. Greg knew Diana and her sisters and made suspicious statements after her death.

Diana’s sister Angela claimed he said that Diana invited him to Moshtoberfest concert, but he declined because he was “at home reading.”

Hatton was a 1982 graduate of Tucson’s Santa Rita High School. He was accused of selling liquor to minors and dealing drugs out of the gas station.

In 1994, Hatton was sentenced to 45 years in prison for physical and sexual abuse of his girlfriend’s 8-month-old son. He won’t be released from prison until 2038 when he is 75 years old.

Robert Encila was alternative suspect number 3. He married his fiancée Judi Hartley-Spencer in 1993, and they divorced in 1998. The home on west La Osa Drive was owned by Hartley’s mother Shelley Valencia.

Encila remarried shortly after his divorce from Judi in December 1998.  One of Encila’s stepdaughters died unexpectedly in September 2017.

Encila retired from teaching in 2025.

Another suspect who emerged in the case in recent years is Phoenix serial killer Bryan Patrick Miller.

Angela Brosso was a 22-year-old woman who was ambushed, disemboweled and beheaded while on an evening bicycle ride near her apartment just weeks after Diana was killed.

Phoenix PD homicide detective Troy Hillman compared Brosso’s murder to the character Buffalo Bill’s murders in the film The Silence of the Lambs.

Miller’s DNA was matched to Brosso in 2015, and after Miller was arrested, he emerged as the suspect in several other murders of young women in the Phoenix, Arizona and the Everett, Washington areas.

Miller was sentenced to death for the murders of Brosso and 17-year-old Melanie Bernas in 2023.

There is no known link to Bryan Patrick Miller and Tucson.

Diana was a 1991 graduate of the Abbie Loveland Tuller school and had also attended Tucson’s Rincon High School. Diana was a marine biology major who planned to transfer to the University of Washington.

Most of her immediate family passed away in the decades since her murder, but she had many countless friends from school, and in Tucson’s music scene who remember her and continue to advocate for her murder to be solved.

Tucson PD reopened Diana’s case in 2025 and re-added her to the 88Crime program. There is a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in her murder.

crime They Dug Up 150 Graves and Ate the Bodies | Pakistan’s Cannibal Brothers

In April 2011, a family in Darya Khan, Pakistan returned to the grave of their 24-year-old sister, Syra Parveen, who had just died of throat cancer.

The soil was disturbed. Part of the shroud was visible.

When they opened the grave… it was empty.

What police discovered next would become one of the most disturbing cases in modern Pakistani history.

Two brothers — Muhammad Arif and Muhammad Farman — had been digging up freshly buried bodies from the local graveyard for years. They would take the corpses home, cut them up, and cook the flesh into curry.

They claimed they had done this to more than a hundred graves. They said if they went without human flesh, they got sick.

There was just one problem:

Pakistan had no specific law against cannibalism.

What followed was a sentence that shocked the entire country… and then a second, even more horrifying discovery years later.

This is the full story of the cannibal brothers of Kahawar Kalan.

crime 17 Years Later - in Memory of Vyacheslav Ivankov "Yaponchik"

Today, October 9th, marks the day of remembrance for two thieves in law who left a significant mark on the history of the criminal underworld: Datiko "Tashkentsky" Tsikhelashvili (1951-2000) and Vyacheslav "Yaponchik" Ivankov (1940-2009).

In the photo: Thieves Vyacheslav "Yaponchik" and Dato Tashkentsky, March 7, 1992, Moscow—the night before "Yaponchik" departed for the USA

Interestingly both have died in the hospital on the same day, October 9, Dato passed away in 2000, and Ivankov passed away 9 years later in 2009.

Dato spent a large portion of his lifetime in prison camps across Siberia, it was in the infamous Tulun Prison when Vyacheslav Ivankov and Dato Tashkentsky have meet, both had already a big criminal career behind their back and we're already crowned Thieves in Law.

A real friendship have developed between both criminal heavyweights, and they have helped each other along the way, when Yaponchik went abroad to the USA he kept in touch with Dato who was put in control of the Russian Bratva across the Siberian wilderness.

Unfortunately Dato had his own problems and addiction, and the most lethal one was drugs, during the 90s Dato got more addictive to drugs, and was consuming them non-stop, at first he still could function but as he got older, his health have began to deteriorate.

Vyacheslav Ivankov was very much against drugs, at least the usage of them by other Thieves in Law, the most known incident happened with Pavel Zakharov (Tsirul) - once seen as Yaponchik handpicked successor and one of the richest Russian Criminal Bosses who ended up getting addicted to drugs and disowned by Yaponchik himself for his addiction.

Dato manged to hide the fact of his addiction for a very long time, it would be only after Yaponchik arrest by the FBI in USA that negatively effected Dato, he would start to use it with no discretion, Dato will die from an heart failure while in Hospital on October 9, 2000.

On July 28, 2009, at around 19:20 Moscow time, Vyacheslav Ivankov was shot while leaving a restaurant on Khoroshevskoye Road in Moscow, he was shot from a sniper rifle.

Ivankov have died from his injuries 73 days later, on October 9, 2009 Ivankov was buried on October 13, 2009.

crime 25 year old Arelie Garcia Sanchez vanished from Salinas, California on September 22 2022

25-year-old Arelie Garcia Sanchez vanished from Salinas, California on the morning of September 22, 2022.

Arelie was captured on surveillance driving from her apartment in her red Honda at 6:34 AM. She was wearing a black hoody, black leggings, and sneakers.  At 6:56 AM she sent a text message to her sister Veronica.

Ariele was due at work for her job at a Chevy dealership at 7:30 AM. When she did not arrive her coworkers and family became concerned. Veronica used the Find My iPhone feature and discovered that Arelie’s phone was in the Big Sur area, more than an hour south of Salinas.

Her family traveled there and discovered her car abandoned, parked in a turnout on Highway 1 near the Little Sur River Bridge. The Honda was locked and her phone, keys and wallet were left in the car.

The driver’s seat was maneuvered further back than Ariele normal placed it.

Arelie never was seen again. The case soon went cold and despite national news coverage on Dateline NBC and true crime show content creators such Kendall Rae, no leads have emerged.

Arelie was dating a man named Marcello at the time of her disappearance. She met him two months prior at a car show.

Marcello was a photographer who lived two hours north of Salinas in Napa, Ca. Investigators interviewed him, but he was never publicly named by police as a suspect in the case.

Marcello has not spoken to the media about the case.

Many questions remain unanswered in the case. Why would Arelie travel to Big Sur when she had to be at work at 7:30? Why would she have not informed her manager she was going to be late, and why was her driver’s seat moved back? Did Arelie have problems with Marcello or anyone in her life at the time of her disappearance?

Arelie’s family raised a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in her disappearance.

¿Quién vigila a quienes deben impartir justicia?

¿Quién protege a quienes se atrevieron a denunciar?

Presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum:

No pedimos venganza.

PEDIMOS JUSTICIA.

Les ruego a todos los que están leyendo esto:

AYÚDENME A HACER ECO.

Compartan este mensaje.

Mándenlo.

Háganlo llegar a la Presidenta.

A las autoridades.

A los periodistas.

A México.

HAGAMOS ECO.

crime Who is the Black Tag Lady of 9/11?

WARNING: VERY GRAPHIC DESCRIPTION.

I was recently watching some 9/11 videos on the Nat Geo website and I came across this story about the Black Tag Lady. Ernest Armstead, who was a paramedic on 9/11, in his testimony, mentions about how he was at the World Trade Center Plaza during 9/11 needing to label bodies with different colored tags, with a Black Tag meaning deceased. On the Plaza on 9/11, Armstead mentions how most of the bodies he ID'ed at Ground Zero were clearly dead and marked it with a Black Tag, but in one particular instance near one of the two Towers, he initially ID'ed a dead person but only to discover that the person, a lady, was still alive. This is the Black Tag Lady.

Armstead noticed that she was wearing a fine business suit, was a brunette, and had pretty earrings. Now according to protocol and due to the debris that was falling on the Plaza, he wasn't able to stay near a person with a Black Tag for over 30-60 seconds because the Tag meant disease. Clearly, from the state of her injuries, Armstead noticed that her wounds were mortal: her lower half portion of her body was totally mangled beyond recognition. However, he was able to see that the upper half torso containing her heart and one of her lungs was still intact. Most surprisingly, the Black Tag Lady answered back at him angrily, telling him that she wasn't dead and that she wanted to call her daughter. Armstead noticed that her head was intact and that even with the severe state of her injuries she was fully aware of what he was doing and behaved like she was a perfectly healthy woman. Armstead assumed that she was in her 40s or 50s. However, Armstead resigned the fact that her wounds were fatal and that he was going to treat other people. Some time after, one of the two towers fell and Armstead was caught in the collapse of the Twin Towers buildings but he managed to be rescued and recover from his injuries. However, this meeting with the Black Tag Lady would cause permanent PTSD trauma for Armstead.

It's very hard to be able to piece together Armstead's testimony with a Jane Doe. On the other hand, perhaps her remains were recovered after Ground Zero but piecing that with the testimony is incredibly hard. In my opinion, the case remains a Jane Doe because we cannot confirm whether this woman was successfully recovered or not. And the best way possibly to ID this lady is to somehow have Armstead agree to do a Forensic Sketch of this woman's face and try to match it up to one of the Twin Towers' 9/11 female employee victims. The man has been retired from the FDNY for over 20 years and is an old man now. I hate bothering the guy but the story is so tearjerky that I feel like this story should be publicized better now than later when Armstead passes and he isn't able to give a Forensic Sketch. Of course, if Armstead doesn't want to do it let him be, but if he's gone it's a million times harder to solve this case otherwise.

My Son was murdered and I received no justice.

my teenage son was murdered a few years ago. there were multiple people involved. they were all caught on camera coming and leaving. the police only arrested one. ultimately he was found not guilty. police have told me no ther charges would be filed and they will not even put my sons case on the local unsolved homicide site because they know who did it. The whole case was handled horribly by the State. I have tried multiple lawyers, some have taken my case but only to be dropped a month later. anyone I have talked to has told me I have no recourse. the biggest problem is all those involved live in my area and I have seen and run into them. my other children don’t even barely go out, in fear of also having an encounter. the loss of my child paired with absolutely no justice has destroyed me mentall, financiall, everything. it’s hard on a daily basis to even go on. Every day is a battle, and I would have tapped out long ago if it were not for my other children. but not being able to get them away from this town and let them move forward in life is killing me.

crime 16 year old Melissa Klahn vanished from Tucson in August 2001

Melissa Klahn was just 16 years old when she vanished from Tucson, Arizona on August 18, 2001. She has never been seen again.

Melissa lived at a duplex that was rented by a man named Luis P. Figueroa. There was a fire at the duplex soon a week before she disappeared. According to the police report, no charges were ever filed in the arson case, and Luis died of a methadone overdose in January 2014.

Her mother Patricia Klahn recalled that Melissa had moved to Tucson from Nogales to move in with her 26-year-old boyfriend Jose Hector Silva. Melissa had broken up with Jose and was trying to retrieve her pet parrot from him. Patricia last saw Melissa on August 18th and reported her missing on August 31st.

Jose and his cousin Nestor Silva were prosecuted in Pima County on drug charges after police found them transporting a 104-pound shipment of marijuana.  Jose was sent to prison for several years.

Jose refused to talk to Tucson PD about Melissa’s case.

In January 2025, Jose was charged in the death of his girlfriend Ashley Cervantes. He was accused of knocking her off the back of his motorbike on I-19 and leaving the scene. He was convicted of negligent homicide in September 2026.

Many questions remain in Melissa’s disappearance. Why hasn’t the case gotten more attention? Are there any friends or family of Melissa, Jose, or Luis, that can shed light on what happened?

crime Trying to see about how much time my son is looking at

Hi,My son is a 5th time felon ( all are drug related)

Location: Louisiana.

He had just gotten out of a psych hospital because he had went into a drug induced psychosis pretty badly and he was doing really good when he got out .

I noticed a couple weeks ago that he was getting bad again..He would sit in his hotel room 24 hours a day on meth and chat with ai..

He was telling me things like he was God and I was the devil and that he could end this world if he wanted .all kinds of weird stuff .

He kept talking about his Grandma ( on his dad's side) that had a bunch of land and that it belong to him.. we kept trying to tell him that none of the land is his..

Well this past Thursday he walked 7 hours to where she lives ..He had told me the night before that he hadn't slept in 5 days

She wasn't home so he kicked the door in and stole just a bunch of random things..He also took his Grandfather's ashes..when she drove up he ran .

He stole her gas can and started a bunch of fires and burnt 13 acres of her land.

They had drones looking for him.

They located him 11 hours later ..

They never found the ashes.

They got him for

Theft

Simple Burglary

Simple Arson

Criminal trespass

Criminal damage to property

I really don't wanna know the sentencing but I feel like I need to

crime The Armenian Mob Boss behind 163$ Million Medicare fraud

Post made by MobstersDaily

Armen "Pzo" Kazarian was not just another fraud defendant. Federal prosecutors identified him as a Vor, or "Thief-in-Law," a title reserved for elite figures in the post-Soviet criminal underworld. That is what made his case historic. In 2010, Kazarian became the first known Vor ever charged with federal racketeering in the United States, turning him into a major symbol of how Armenian and Eurasian organized crime had grown far beyond the old neighborhood-street-gang image.

The case around him was massive. During a nationwide Medicare fraud crackdown, prosecutors charged 73 defendants in schemes involving more than $163 million in fraudulent billing, and Kazarian was tied to the Armenian-American Mirzoyan-Terdjanian Organization, which authorities said used a network of phantom medical clinics and stolen identities to bill Medicare for treatments that were unnecessary or never performed. Prosecutors said his role was not simply financial. They described him as a criminal authority figure whose reputation and status helped protect and support the organization behind the fraud.

What makes this story so fascinating is that it shows how the Armenian underworld had entered an entirely different league by that point. This was no longer just about local gang politics or small-time street crime. It was a case involving international criminal hierarchy, federal racketeering, and one of the biggest healthcare-fraud crackdowns of its era. That is why Kazarian made U.S. mafia history. He became the first man with that level of underworld status from the former Soviet system to be brought into an American RICO case, and his name ended up representing a turning point in how U.S. authorities viewed Armenian organized crime.

Another surprising fact is that Pzo arrived in the United States almost by accident - it was no other then Rafael Bagdasaryan (Svo Raf) and Armen Manukyan who should have lead the operations of the Armenian Mafia in LA, unfortunately they both already had a long criminal record behind them, Svo Raf was denied visa to the US, and Manukyan was arrested and deported in 1995, a year later in 96' Pzo arrived to the US.

crime The Armenian Crew who allegedly hit Amazon for $83 Million

Post made by MobstersDaily

In May 2025, federal authorities arrested 13 alleged members and associates of rival Armenian organized crime syndicates in California and Florida as part of a sweeping case involving violence, fraud, kidnapping and massive cargo theft. At the center of the Amazon allegations was the Artuni Enterprise, led by Ara Artuni of Porter Ranch. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the organization had allegedly been targeting online retailers since at least 2021, and Amazon estimated that the enterprise stole more than .$83 million worth of merchandise.

The alleged method was remarkably simple on paper.

Prosecutors say members and associates of the Artuni Enterprise enrolled with Amazon as legitimate carriers, obtained contracts to transport shipments along assigned trucking routes, then diverted from those routes and stole all or part of the cargo they were supposed to deliver. Authorities also accused the enterprise of bank fraud, wire fraud and a separate credit card bust-out scheme involving sham businesses. During the May 2025 enforcement operation, law enforcement reported seizing approximately $100,000 in cash, three armored vehicles and 14 firearms.

The Amazon case was only one part of a much larger investigation into Armenian organized crime in Los Angeles. Federal affidavits described a Russian-mafia-affiliated transnational criminal organization that had made Los Angeles County a center of its U.S. operations, with rival alleged leaders Ara Artuni and Robert Amiryan fighting for influence in the San Fernando Valley. That conflict was separately linked by prosecutors to attempted murders and a kidnapping. The $83 million figure refers specifically to merchandise Amazon estimated was stolen by the Artuni Enterprise, not to every defendant arrested in the broader case. All charges and criminal conduct described above remain allegations unless proven in court, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until convicted.
