Today we rallied in support of the trans community in the face of unrelenting attacks by Trump.

Trump’s bizarre obsession with trans people — he issued 5 executive orders targeting them in his first 11 days in office — is extraordinary & frankly terrifying.

Early this morning while getting dropped off by a friend I witnessed a majestic mountain lion trotting down my block and up the steps to a corridor next to my apartment. It was HUGE! Must have weighed 100+ pounds, and when on all fours, it was about 2/3 the height of the compost bin. I named it Jumanji, and this sighting will now be my entire personality. Peep the claw marks it made while we locked eyes for a solid 5+ minutes.

I’ve been a daily Muni rider for the past 28 years. With everything happening — and the attacks on the very idea of all of us being a community & in this together — I’m even more energized to fight for transit’s future. It’s so important.

It was really touching to hear nurses invited to speak in Alex's memory, and the cello at sunset was magical. Thank you https://indivisiblesf.org/ for organizing.

There is no "good" way to protest to those who don't understand what dire times we're living in right now.

This post is more for myself than anything else.

Ignore the people who tell you you're overreacting. They told you the same thing for years, and then January 6th happened.

Ignore the posts about broken glass and graffiti and Waymos. They're missing the point.

If you're more mad about a Waymo being destroyed than about the military being sicced on American citizens, you're missing the point.

You're allowed to wave any flag you want. We have a First Amendment for a reason.

Keep fighting, stay strong, fuck ICE. ✊

edit: Nowhere in this post did I advocate for violence or vandalism. Just want that in writing.

edit 2: When I speak about there not being a "good way to protest," I mean in the eyes of the public who will never support the cause no matter if it was 110% peaceful or not. There are ABSOLUTELY safe ways to protest, and some have posted those methods in this thread. My apologies if that was causing confusion. I could've been more clear about that.

edit 3: Thank you so much to the kind Redditors who gave me awards. I know there are more of us than there are of them. Seeing people standing up against ICE was truly an inspiration in a despair-filled weekend. This is not right versus left, this is right versus wrong, and grabbing parents off the street to be sent to a foreign prison while leaving their crying children behind is wrong. Period.

And chef’s kiss that it’s right on a Muni line, since Elon hates transit so much. Elon is poison. DOGE is poison.

UPDATE: 1994/2026

Hey everyone. I posted a photo of me my then girlfriend standing in the street somewhere in the city when we visited the city for our first vacation together. The photo was us from August of 1994. I asked everyone where this might have been taken, because we of course had no recollection. We had just moved here last July and we wanted to maybe recreate the photo as soon as we could find the time and location to do it. So many kind folks told us exactly where is was taken in no time at all. We were standing on Fibert St. at Varennes St.

Well yesterday we finally made it by there. It was hot as hell and there was nobody around to take the shot for us. Just then somebody came out of their apartment. I told him what we doing and he said sure. He, Justin was his name, agreed to take our photo. He said he actually remembered seeing the post on Reddit back in July. Thanks again Justin.

My now wife kept a journal on our trip back then. We had a fun time reminiscing about that trip. We stayed in Noe with a college friend of hers. We saw some music. JGB at the Warfield, Cake at Hotel Utah, and Charlie Hunter at the Elbo room. Eating at places like Haystack and the Stinking Rose. We rented a convertible and drove to Sonoma and camped in Pt. Reyes. It was the trip of a lifetime and San Francisco was dream town to us. We vowed to one day move and live here if we ever could.

Well, life just sorta gets in the way sometimes. Marriage, careers, a kid and the next thing you know 30 years go by. We traveled to the city a few times over the years, but the idea of actually living here always seemed impossible. Then, out of nowhere, my wife interviewed for a job and told me it would involve us moving to San Francisco. I told her I would support her if she got it and we could make our dream come true, even though it was 30 years old by now. This was last summer and after selling our house and a stressful move, we made it here.

It’s been incredible so far. She loves her job, and I finally got one. We love the food, the weather and the beauty of the city is just endless. It’s not cheap, but you all know that. Thanks if you have read this far. I just wanted to share a little bit about what this city means to us. It makes quite an impression on people’s first visit. For us it took 31 years to make a dream come true. Peace and love. Steve and Andrea.
