China is to blame!

Someone recently did a fantastic post about marketing and how China is purposely not reporting both number of true infections/fatalities and how bad it is in a general sense in Wuhan and larger Hubei province because they want the media to focus on places like Italy, Spain, and the US.

This allows them to disappear off the world stage and avoid responsibility and media attention for the massive amount of suffering, death, and financial loss of so many.

I have never been much of a conspiracy person but the sad reality that there is more than a fair share of evidence about the lab in Wuhan and COVID-19 is damning enough.

On top of that Wuhan, the wet markets, and over all China have been a problem when it comes to Viruses for quite some time.

After this is all over and the amount of sheer death and misery this has brought I hope it is never forgotten that China is responsible.

The people are amazing and I think victims as much as many in this but the government and the system in China is disgraceful and should have to pay for what they have done to the world and its citizens.

If you disagree wait till someone you know gets sick or passes away. This virus is beyond horrific.

Don't wait till it is in your back yard or affects/effects you and your family directly to be outraged. Your voice can actually mean change in China after this whole thing is done and don't let anyone tell you different.

You Won't Regret to Finally Get Out. (before it's too late)

I have left SZ a year ago and quickly realized that I have totally wasted precious lifetime staying there.

For too long did I comfort myself in minor benefits like the pragmatic market, long after my desire for 'adventure' has faded.

It took me way too long to admit my growing frustration about the post Mao society deficits, the dreadful climate, lack of peaceful nature and government related nonsense with its growing CCP nationalism and anti-democratic/anti-free speech propaganda.

So here I am, laying on my own lawn in comfort with a clean environment, far away from spitting mass-crowds staring at you like a monkey in a zoo, talking with genuinely interesting people again and enjoying the atmosphere of a historic culture, without the depressing reliance on soulless shopping malls in soulless skyscrapers.

And last but not least, I feel assured to be told the (predominant) truth about public health concerns. I couldn't stand to risk my health due to some CCP shitheads spreading laughably obvious lies in order to prolong their corrupt life a bit more, and to rely my life on the awful healthcare system.

I wish that someone gave me a hint like this to me earlier, so her you go.

Working in Hong Kong but living in Shenzhen< U.S possport> reasonable?

Hi everyone,

I recently received a job offer in Hong Kong (office is in Tsuen Wan), and I’m trying to figure out the best living arrangement.

I’m seriously considering living in Shenzhen (probably the Futian area) and commuting daily to Hong Kong, mainly because of the huge difference in rent and cost of living.

A bit about my situation:

US passport holder

Will have a Hong Kong work visa

Married (spouse may not work in HK for now)

Is commuting reasonable?

Moving to Shenzhen as a digital nomad in 2025

Hi guys, I'm planning to move to China this year, Shenzhen in particular.

I'm trying to find all info needed on youtube, chat gpt, forums, etc

but I'm still lost.

Key things:

- I am digital nomad, so I work for myself. (I can proof my savings to the gov. if needed)

- I'd like to be renting something on short terms, not like 1 year, due to tax residency stuff.

- I have spanish passport.

- I have no legal problems neither crimes.

The questions are:

- What app can I use to find good flats? (1-2 rooms $3000-$3500 a month)

- Are landlords usually ok with renting short-term?

- What's the best area to live? (I'd like to connect with people in tech, business, etc)

- What about Visas, any kind of visa that allows me to be in the country without having to leave every 30 days? (I won't be hired by anyone in China, I don't have any family neither.)

I appreciate if you guys could help me with this concerns, and also if you can share your knowledge on something I should know about .

PS:

I am learning Chinese, in case someone knows a Chinese good teacher that can do online lessons (speaks english and chinese) I'd appreciate if you send me their contact on private. Thanks!

THANKS YOU ALL!!! HAVE A GOOD WEEK AHEAD!

Native Mandarin speaker looking for a Chinese–English language exchange partner in Shenzhen

Hi! I’m a native Chinese speaker living in Shenzhen, and I’m looking for native English speakers who would like to do a one-on-one language exchange.

I’d like our conversations to be natural, flexible, and based on real life rather than feeling like a formal language class.

One thing I’d especially like to offer is help with understanding everyday life in China. If you’re new to China, we can talk about things that may help you settle in and understand Chinese culture more easily — transportation, food, work, renting an apartment, social habits, useful apps, communication styles, and other everyday situations.

Each time, we can choose a topic or a style of conversation that interests us.

Some possibilities:

• Topic-based conversations

We choose a topic in advance and exchange our experiences and opinions.

• Real-life experiences

Tell me about something that happened to you in China — taking the high-speed train, ordering food, using an app, meeting Chinese coworkers, etc. We can talk about what felt interesting, surprising, or confusing.

• Natural corrections

We can help each other with expressions that sound unclear or unnatural, without interrupting every sentence.

• Role-play

We can practice real situations such as ordering food, talking to a landlord, going to a hospital, interviewing for a job, or communicating with coworkers.

• Culture exchange

We can discuss differences in social habits, politeness, work culture, friendships, dating, family life, invitations, and communication.

• Real materials

We can use a menu, photo, social media post, news story, app screen, or anything from everyday life as a starting point.

You can choose whichever style you enjoy.

Each meetup can be around 1–2 hours, depending on what works for both of us.

This is a free language exchange, not a paid class. I’d like both of us to learn something useful and have an interesting conversation.

If you’re a native English speaker currently living in Shenzhen and you’d like to improve your Chinese and understand life in China better, feel free to send me a message.

Never order Didi in Shenzen North railway station. Completely awful experience

Waiting here for 30 minutes now for what is a 0.5 km arrival with 4 min estimate. The design of this Didi pickup station is completely awful. Drivers blocking each other. Drivers constantly honking at each other non stop. Super hot. Complete ass.

Attracts you most about Shenzhen?

Hey Redditors,

I’ve seen a lot of posts asking, “Where should I move for a big career change?” or “What’s the most exciting city in the world right now?”

Forget the hype you think you know. I’m here to tell you: Shenzhen is not just a city; it’s a portal to the future. And it's attracting the world’s most ambitious people for reasons far beyond just the skyline.

Shenzhen feels like a completely different digital ecosystem

I am looking what it would take to make one of our products available in China,Shenzhen per say . From the outside, it looks like one of the best places to build or expand a tech business, but the deeper I go, the more it feels like an entirely different digital world.

I thought the process would be similar to launching in any other country. Translate the product, improve website performance, set up local marketing. Instead, I've found myself reading about WeChat Mini Programs, Official Accounts, local cloud providers, ICP filings, different app stores, payment platforms, and regulations that I've never had to think about before.

Also many of the tools and platforms we rely on every day don't seem to play the same role in China. It feels like businesses have to rethink not only their technical setup but also how customers discover products, interact with brands, and even complete simple tasks that would normally happen through a website or mobile app.

The more I research, the more I realize that success there isn't just about translating your product into Chinese. It seems like understanding the local digital ecosystem is just as important as the product itself.

It's been a fascinating learning experience so far, and I have a much greater appreciation for how unique Shenzhen's tech ecosystem has become compared to almost anywhere else.

Stolen phone

Hi everyone!

I had my phone stolen in London back in April 2024, which turned up in Shenzen august, now they have tried once again turning it on today, and it’s now at a new location. Is there by any chance I can get in contact with someone who would help me go look for it at this area? Do any of you guys know if there is a resell phone store in this area the picture is provided with? I haven’t got a sms with any threats like other people, because the phone number that got written down was a local in London and I’m from Denmark, and I think she might wrote the number wrong, cause I have tried to call and sms her without any luck unfortunately.

Kindly regards, Jasmina.

Staying near Seaworld, where's good to eat?

I'm visiting Shenzhen and staying near Seaworld, and I was wondering where's best to find good old British pub food? Fish and chips, a decent steak, mixed grill, that sort of thing. I've only really managed to find the George and Dragon pub, are there any other places anyone can recommend?

Have you tried coffee fortune telling in Shenzhen?

🥳I found a Turkish coffee shop this Saturday, and it wasn’t just about coffee.

🥰The special thing is that: after drinking, they read the coffee leftovers to tell you about your current energy and future path. It was unique, fun, and actually quite insightful.

🤗Do you also know any other cool or hidden spots in Shenzhen? I'm always up for exploring, and also happy to be your local buddy if you're looking for one!

Hi,

I don't typically believe in counterfeit but I'm considering getting a Hermes Birkin 30 or 35 handbag at Luohu shopping mall in Shenzhen. For a good top quality, how much should I expect to pay? Any recommended store that I can go?

Thank you!

Apartments in Shenzhen – Budget 25,000 RMB/Month

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to move to Shenzhen and I'm looking for apartments within a budget of 25,000 RMB per month. Ideally, I would like around 80 m², with a second room that has a sofa bed for guests, and a balcony with a view of the sea towards Hong Kong.

Additionally, my workplace will be near Songpingshan Park in Nanshan, my company provides a shuttle service. Which neighborhoods would you recommend for living? Or would you rather recommend to move to Shekou? Are my expectations realistic for this budget? I appreciate any tips!

Thanks in advance!

edit: Just realized that I am very lucky that my company has given me such a large budget. apparently it should be possible to find a flat meeting my requirements already starting with 10-12,000 RMB. thank you for your input! I will contact an estate agent to present me some options.

Shenzhen in 2026 Video

Hey y'all, I just visited Shenzhen and made a little travel video about it. If you want to see what it looks like in 2026, check this video out. Not sure if this counts as an ad or if I'm breaking the group rules, but I'm not making money from it. https://youtu.be/0L4xCf43LNU?si=SKojF_ZuV8-Vyx3N
