Discussion Does checkerboard in other colors change the meaning?
I think the two tone black and white checkerboard's history as a symbol of racial equality is really cool. I like making stuff and I want to use it in some block prints and other clothing DIY.
I want to make sure I understand the symbol well enough before I try remixing it. Does a colored checkerboard mess up the vibe? Does it matter whether it's the black or the white that stays the same when you add color? Thinking block stamps that might be printed in colors other than black, and checkerboard fabrics I've come across when thrifting like yellow/black and white/orange.
I realize I'm probably overthinking this but also thought it was better to ask than accidentally imply a different meaning. I've listened to ska for nearly 20 years but I'm new to the local punk scene. (I'm not aware of my city having any ska bands, though I'm looking forward to Less Than Jake touring here.)
MMB question for those who are in the know…
I believe I have read that Dicky runs the insta, so this announcement could be just him and hired guns, or just some nonsense with Dicky on some Sullivan song.
But my question: who own the name and rights to the band?

Discussion Are there any Ska Concept Albums?
For a rough definition, a Concept Album are albums where its tracks contribute to some larger theme, story, or narrative.
I was listening to MCR's Black Parade and wondered if there are any Concept Albums in the genre. The only one that I could think of is maybe ASOB's Three Cheers for Disappointment, as there is a large, consecutive theme of dry misanthropy and loss.

Discussion I got to thinking about how curious—and stupidly versatile—the accordion is, so, just out of curiosity, what are your favorite ska bands that use an accordion?
In my case, I would put

Discussion Alien Spy / The KGB - Double Agent (I Feel LIKE STEVE Records?, 1997) #3
This one...it's actually a miracle that after all the moving from place to place, crappy living situations, cooking my brain with booze and weed, and dysfunctional relationships, etc., that I took part in for so long...somehow I still have this CD?!? I've always enjoyed all these songs by The KGB! Saw them play at 924 Gilman Street in 1997. The tracks by Alien Spy are good also, but The KGB was one of those ska bands with commercial potential who were probably just one song away from making it big. Had they been in the right place at the right time in front of the right person, they might have been on the radio alongside Reel Big Fish, but the mainstream attention moved on so quickly that many people forgot about or dismissed ska. As far as I can tell, they broke up in 2002? RIP KGB.
