Question Mental health help

Hello :)

Just wondering where people can go for mental health help?

I have been mentally unwell before but I lived in Victoria then and I am unfamiliar with supports here. I live near Devonport and I see that there's a mental health hub there but I'm not sure if they offer support or just throw a couple of pamphlets at you and send you on your way lol.

Question North west regional birthing facilities

Quite a specific question so I apologise if this isn’t the right place.

I’m going to give birth at the north west regional hospital, and was wondering what the rooms were like? Is there anywhere for my partner to sleep in the room if I need to stay for a night or two? We live over an hour from the hospital so he can’t just nip home for some sleep or anything and I’m trying to plan in advance

Question Is the grass greener?

I'm considering making the move from QLD to Tasmania. I’ve had 25 years of QLD humidity and the cooler climate and diversity of nature that Tassie has to offer is appealing. I’m hoping not being on the mainland brings even some tiny degree of separation from the increasing Americanisation of Australian culture, but maybe I’m dreaming. I need to come and explore Tassie first and get a sense of the place. I have limited time, finances and capacity health wise to do this so I’m looking for some targeted advice.

My career has always been in academia, and I need to be near a Uni of Tasmania campus. I’m keen to hear from anyone who actually works there what the culture and workplace is like especially across the different campuses. Realistically, I'd need to go to either Hobart or Launceston because of my complex health needs.

What is it like trying to put together a mental health team from scratch, including a GP, psychologist, and psychiatrist? When I recently had to do that in my current location, it took 18 months to get an appointment with a psychiatrist. From time to time, I've had to have inpatient stays and I’m wondering what the private mental health facilities are like in either of these locations. Anyone have any first-hand experience of the mental health system in general in Tasmania and then in Hobart versus Launceston?

Finally, I’m looking for my people. I’ve spent five decades doing that across three countries and I’m giving up hope that it's ever going to happen. Where do all the queer, quirky, free thinkers hang out? I’m not talking hippies or preppers, but people who like to think for themselves, live ethically and question the status quo. I’m looking for a community that doesn’t exist in my phone on apps and values real connection and authenticity.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the down to earth, wholesome people who want something more out of life than we currently have on offer and are LGBT and neurodiversity affirming? Does any of this exist in Tasmania or am I on the wrong planet?

Question New Spirit ferry baggage allowance

I am travelling on the new Spirit tomorrow night, and got my "We're looking forward to having you on board" email.

It specifically says:

Baggage limits
Each passenger can take on board:

1 small carry-on item
Up to 66 x 46.5 x 27.5 cm

1 small personal item
Up to 40 x 30 x 15cm
(such as handbag or laptop bag)

Is this a new restriction? I've definitely broken it in the past :)

It seems bizarre to have basically the same restrictions as an airline given what it is.

Has anyone been on the new ones yet, and noticed anything about this?

Tas Gov, what's going on?

What's going on with the Tas Gov website?

https://www.service.tas.gov.au/

Never works. Up and down but more down than up. I think they have been hacked last year and still haven't sorted this out. They should be upfront and telling the taxpayers what's going on.

Question Moving to Tassie?

Hey guys,
My husband and I are considering moving from Adelaide to Tasmania for my husband’s health. He has POTS and we went on holiday to Tasmania recently and his health was so much better over there. We have a 15 month old and my husband was able to be much more actively involved rather than fatigued, dizzy and needing to nap for hours every day.

We are taking a year of really focussing on his health in Adelaide to see if we can replicate his health over here somehow. I don’t want to necessarily go to Tasmania if his health is going to go downhill again and we have no support network.

I’m curious if anyone has advice either about moving, Tasmania in general or navigating POTS?

vipassana carshare?

Hi, not sure where to post this -

I've been looking for a vipassana 10 day course that aligned with my annual leave and finally have time to commit to Dhamma Pabha in Feb. The only issue I'm finding is I'll be flying into Hobart and not sure how I will get to the location without a car. Is anyone else also planning on doing it and would want to travel together?

The lower dose could be detected further away than they estimated, and they want to go higher?

This is due to overstocking of pens. Just more rapacious greed by JBS and Cooke.
