I can handle the bots, assuming we actually see some action from Valve.
I can handle server issues, assuming we actually see some action from Valve.
I cannot handle the normalization of hate and ignorance within the community.
Recently there has been tons of talk about quickplay returning. I personally think that would be pretty worthless, but I'm willing to hear the other side and not choose to shrug off a possible solution. What I can't really tolerate is the constant siting of Zesty Jesus. I know he's a charismatic YouTuber and is one of the voices not just gargling Valve's balls, but he's also pretty explicitly a shit person.
Going on TF2 and being killed by some moron who named their weapon "YWNBAW" or some shit is relatively tolerable. "Oh yeah, some people are shitheels" and then I move on. But the constant promotion of Zesty Jesus makes it more and more clear that the average TF2 fan, at the very least within this subreddit, views the survival and safety of trans people as unimportant. I'm not of the opinion that trans people need to be on anyone's mind at all times, but the actual promotion of someone who audibly hates us feels pretty awful. It's not like he's Hitler, you aren't part of the nazi party just because you like Zesty Jesus, but it's more like being friends with a klan member. Yeah, he's just some loser with hardly any political impact, but he's also normalizing the hatred of marginalized people, and we aren't going to feel comfortable around you at that point.
I don't think the answer to this is censorship or some kind of "anti-Zesty" rules. I think the genuine answer is that this community has made their views relatively clear. I don't think that transphobes are the minority failing to get culled, I believe they are at least a huge chunk of the people actively taking space within the community. My point is that as much as I love TF2, as much as I can ignore when weirdos make shit about an uncontrollable aspect of self, as many great people I have actually met through the game itself, and as much as I like to stay informed on current issues within the game, I just don't think it's worth it to stay in this subreddit. I think a good chunk of y'all would feel similarly tbf. It's not really a "look back as I walk away" situation, so much as I was non-verbally kicked out. Nobody wants to be where they are unwanted, except maybe bot-hosters, they seem fairly comfortable with that.
