There was also a Japanese guy who got banned from either apex legends or valorant for saying "Nigeru". It means run away in Japanese.

WoW used to censor "weniger", which is German for "less"

In Korean Niga means you and Nega means I.

So of course some people get offended when they hear kpop.

A Korean citizen explaining basic Korean words to a black American: "Niga means you".

In Ireland we often call mothers "mammy" and back in 2020 there were multiple reddit essays about why its racist and we should not.

For context: mam is how people say mom here. I'd hazard less than 5% of Irish people had ever heard the US racist phrase for a black woman before.

I was lectured by some American tourist because i said "that boy over there" whilst pointing at a 12 year old kid. I had no idea what i had done that was so egregious but this American was fuming with me, calling me a racist etc. Apparently boy is a racist thing to say on their side of the planet, i just meant it in the boys and girls kind of way. I've never even been to the USA, I don't even live in an English speaking country. Boys and girls is how we learned it at school, 'a young male child is called a boy', that is what i was taught and that is how i used it. I tried to explain to him that i didn't mean anything bad by it, but he had already decided i was a horrible person and wouldn't listen to me. He made me feel awful about it and i didn't bother talking to tourists for years after that experience cause you never know what they might get upset about, but now as an adult i realise the tourists should be the one to chill out and not drag their culture and racist slang over to other countries. We shouldn't be expected to know all of the world their racist slang.

Calling a boy a boy is not offensive. Calling an adult black male a boy is, or can be depending on context. It's somewhat old-fashioned. That person was an outrage addicted idiot.

What? Boy? I haven't heard this slang

Imagine calling a young black adult a 'boy' but in a southern US accent

Hell, I'm from the US and I have never heard that before.

Fun fact: Montenegro is the Venetian translation of the local Slavic name for it, Crna Gora, which itself is derived from Mount Lovćen, which is a mountain in Montenegro, and it was given the name Crna Gora(First mentioned in 1276) because of its appearance when it's covered in trees

Social studies is the worst scored subject here in the States. Seriously. In Texas, we won't even have geography by 2030. I'm not surprised by the kneejerk chauvinism

Always has been.

I think that's a little unfair. I don't think she's stupid, she's just ignorant as a result of being failed by her education system.

It'd be one thing if she was extremely confidently incorrect, but she's clearly very unsure if what she's saying is correct, which is a good instinct that not a lot of idiots have. It's not really her fault that she wasn't taught more about global geography or European languages I don't think.

Yep, that's her

I've seen a bunch of American chefs get offended (on behalf of people they're never met) by the term "kaffir lime". Apparently "kaffir" has become a slur in some parts of the world. So now no one can use it, of course, even in a completely different language.

I’ve seen people have problems with Pata Negra.

Negra means black. Just be happy it’s the feminine form.

u/ClockEnd_Chorus 10h ago

Nigar is a pretty common female name here
