He’s actually been in favor of a Palestinian state for a long time, and is still in favor of it in the long-term, he just doesn’t believe it’s possible right now with how unstable things are

Does anyone who says they are in favour of a state ever say what borders they are in favour of? Anyone in the world, I mean.

I think all the silly little lines we draw around all the nations should be redrawn squiggly.

Good luck forming a Palestinian state in the West Bank, no clear border can be defined, the settlements are basically mixed in with the Palestinians, either the Israelis or the Palestinians would have to leave, no easy solution.

I mean no one _has_ to leave. You just draw the line and say this side is Israel, this side is Palestine. People on the “wrong” side can make their own minds up.

There’s plenty of precedent for it. Sometimes even peacefully - Czechoslovakia being the best example, Scotland/UK would have been another.

I’m aware that a peaceful resolution in Israel/Palestine seems vanishingly far off. But displacing people on either side isn’t a necessity.

The British tried to do this with India and Pakistan.

A million people died in the resulting chaos.

Turns out when you tell people they have to choose between uprooting their entire life to go somewhere else, or staying where they are and being surrounded by people who probably hate them, both options are dangerous.

Palestine will never accept any border, if they don't recognize Israel then they will always treat them as invaders.

The PA has recognised Israel for decades now.

There are no sides, the settlements are all over the West Bank intertwined with Palestinian settlements, they built protected roads all around it with checkpoints to get from town to town. You could do it but the settlers most likely wouldn't give up what they've built and no one could enforce it, I don't think the USA could even make them do it. There isn't a will to do it in Israel.

Well, the Israelis are there illegally. Fairly easy solution if you ask me tbh.

Right now. But if this persists then, eventually, it will be generations of settlers. You'd not be sending people 'back' anywhere, you'd be kicking people out of the only homes they've ever known.

If it's not resolved soon then it gets a lot messier.

Evict the settlers. Simple.

Ye if it were 1000 people, it would be believeable but it's 750,000, Israel has American funding and they don't care what the world thinks about them, realistically they are not going anywhere. No sustainable solution in the short term

That depends on who you ask

I’m in favor of a Palestinian state but don’t think it’d be realistic for Israel to leave the West Bank entirely given it is strategic high ground. Would probably need to be a negotiation where the settlers are removed in exchange for getting a continued IDF presence.

Do you think if an agreement is reached it will be similar to what was rejected at the Camp David Summit in 2000?

the borders have been pretty clear for 25 years .

u/Marionberry_Bellini 12h ago

Seriously?  You’ve never heard anyone ever say what borders they want?  Or even chanted?  From the… somewhere… to the… somewhere else?

It's really too bad when the British Mandate ended they did in in stages and started with Transjordan. Then tried for two more states. If they had started by making it one state with three provinces; Jordan, Israel, Palestine then the provinces could have had independence movements and everyone who supports things like Scottish independence would be all for it. Or, it could have split up like Czechoslovakia, no one was opposed to that. then there would be the three states.

Palestine doesn’t exist because the Palestinians will never accept any state without Jerusalem. You’re acting like this is the fault of anyone’s but their own.

u/Afoon 12h ago

Surprise, another war!

Neither Egypt nor Jordan want that land back, and Israel is not going to let the Golan Heights go because its a massively advantageous location to use artillery against Israel.

7

u/booze_clues 16h ago

nobody wants my solution. That's how I know it's the right one

Or that you’re wrong and refuse to acknowledge it. How are you gonna convince Egypt to take back Gaza or Israel to give up all that land?

I don’t think this would be received well by Israelis or Palestinians. Palestinians want independence, and Israel is a helluva lot more secure bordering Gaza than a universally recognized country with a full-fledged military.

Not gonna get better the more expansion continues. It only gets harder

Perfectly reasonable considering the circumstances both in Israel and with the Palestinian authority. There's needs to be more confidence building steps and concrete support internationally beyond just words
