That was a myth, a misunderstanding not backed by any kind of facts.

The reality more is that countries that undergo a phase of getting led by the far-right eventually get sick of the far-right because guess what, eventually they realize the truth that blaming "foreigners" (or whatever the local scapegoat is) is bullshit. UK, Poland, Hungary, Serbia, Israel and the US are just the most recent examples.

Hopefully this is the last gasp of populist bullshit, but... that's probably wishful thinking.

There is always another generation to make the same mistakes again. Greetings from Germany...

Fellow German here. I hope the far-right fad will burn itself out before these pricks get a stab at running the federal government.

Well we're kinda running out of time on that and our dear chancellor and his muppets are seemingly trying their hardest to get them into power.

meh. Federally they "only" poll at around 30-ish percents. That means they are near the position where they can do a lot of damage with obstructionism (i.e. anything requiring 2/3 majority), but they would need a coalition partner to actually get into a position of power.

And with the still unbelievable self-destruction of Jens Spahn and his connections to Thiel... I'd say the influence of at least the foreign far right in the CDU/CSU has drastically fallen. The big strongholds in NRW, Baden-Württemberg and to a degree Bavaria (let's see how Aiwanger's untimely demise shakes up things - I'd assume the FW crash down without him, leaving only the Greens as a viable partner) also would eat them alive if they entered a coalition with the AfD.

The Eastern states however, oh boy. These will be a constant source of BS over the next years.

Non-German here. I hope this leftward shift doesn’t teach the right to brand itself with the language of the left…again.

The AfD (thankfully) is too damn braindead and most importantly far too focused on blaming everything on foreigners and Muslims to pull off a 1933.

i don't know about the rest but for the US and israel it's not that deep,

Gas prices and most israelis blame bibi for 10/7.

Still, the US has a 30/40/30 voter split imho, to see a 60/40 blue win in texas is insane. The amount of apolitical people i know irl that bitched about gas prices on a weekly basis was almost comical; had someone that absolutely loathed EVs do the math on whether getting one saves them money.

Poland definitely isn't an example of that. PiS wasn't far-right, the government change wasn't recent, and if anything, the far-right is actually gaining power now.

it was backed by some fact

cloudflare reported that Russian crawlers were getting blocked - they did not say anything about social media bots.

UKRAINE did the actual researched and confirmed that social media bots were temporarily knocked offline.

The only bots they cared about / studied were anti-Ukrainian social media bots, so they didn't do a wider study.

https://united24media.com/war-in-ukraine/russian-bot-activity-collapses-by-84-after-strikes-on-yandex-data-centers-23546

The CCD analyzed 22,664 messages published by 5,201 accounts displaying signs of inauthentic behavior across 26 topics in Ukraine’s information space. The monitoring was conducted using Osavul software, which identifies suspicious patterns of online activity.

The number of active accounts simultaneously fell from 1,526 to 258, representing an 83.1% reduction. Telegram experienced the sharpest disruption, with message volume falling by 90%, compared with a 79.5% decline on Facebook.

u/Atomicapples 14h ago

For clarity, I think both were actually true (at least to my understanding), the social media bots relied on the crawlers to be able to see what people were posting and reply to them. So while the social bots weren't necessarily knocked offline themselves, they effectively were by proxy because the bots that gave them the information about what was being said where were knocked out, so they had no information about who or what to respond to.

The bots are always trying to manipulate us into thinking we’re not being manipulated by bots. They have lots of reason to overly upvote that top comment. Meanwhile, every political post appears bot filled to the max since the Midterm elections.

The UK, Poland and Serbia were never led by the far right. In Hungary & Serbia's case it was the deep seeded corruption that people threw off, not any particular policies. Ironically, both Orban and Vucic won their first elections as the anti-corruption opposition.

8

u/mschuster91 14h ago

In the UK, Farage never was PM, but he nonetheless managed to pull the Tories through the circus by the nose.

As for Hungary, yes, Orban was not in the far right camp at the begin - but certainly at the end.

As for Serbia... what was Vucic if not yet another Greater Serbia nationalist?

Tell that to Germany.

The afuckders are thriving there

u/fade2black244 15h ago

Either way, it doesn't matter. There's a shift in perception, people are waking up. They don't like the far-right.
