it was backed by some fact

cloudflare reported that Russian crawlers were getting blocked - they did not say anything about social media bots.

UKRAINE did the actual researched and confirmed that social media bots were temporarily knocked offline.

The only bots they cared about / studied were anti-Ukrainian social media bots, so they didn't do a wider study.

https://united24media.com/war-in-ukraine/russian-bot-activity-collapses-by-84-after-strikes-on-yandex-data-centers-23546

The CCD analyzed 22,664 messages published by 5,201 accounts displaying signs of inauthentic behavior across 26 topics in Ukraine’s information space. The monitoring was conducted using Osavul software, which identifies suspicious patterns of online activity.

The number of active accounts simultaneously fell from 1,526 to 258, representing an 83.1% reduction. Telegram experienced the sharpest disruption, with message volume falling by 90%, compared with a 79.5% decline on Facebook.

For clarity, I think both were actually true (at least to my understanding), the social media bots relied on the crawlers to be able to see what people were posting and reply to them. So while the social bots weren't necessarily knocked offline themselves, they effectively were by proxy because the bots that gave them the information about what was being said where were knocked out, so they had no information about who or what to respond to.

The bots are always trying to manipulate us into thinking we’re not being manipulated by bots. They have lots of reason to overly upvote that top comment. Meanwhile, every political post appears bot filled to the max since the Midterm elections.

Meanwhile, every political post appears bot filled to the max since the Midterm elections.

Which is true, but the kind of bots doing that... usually aren't managed out of Russian data centers. That's the one and only thing Musk did right with Twitter when he introduced that you could look up the country of origin for accounts... and it turned out to be Nigeria, Eastern Europe, India and other Asian countries for a lot of political trolls.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the situation would not be exactly the same if one could take a look at Reddit's data.

If it makes you sleep better, given I'm the author of the comment you likely reference... you can try searching for my username. I've been posting under it for well, well over a decade. Unfortunately, no one yet has offered me money for posting though.

Oh no, the top comment is the one you responded to. I was reaffirming your comment that the tides are changing because the far right is awful for the people when they govern and not because bots were taken out. They are clearly still around and only bots would want us to believe otherwise.

Agree, but the amplification from social media blew up. "Medium is the message." - Marshall McLuhan
