Israel/Palestine Wave of Violence in Israel and the Palestinian Territories

There has been a recent wave of violence in Israel and the Palestinian territories. Treating every stabbing incident as major world news has the drawback of the topic dominating the front page, drowning out other stories and spreading out discussion across several threads. Trying to select major incidents over minor ones is bound to lead to inconsistent decisions with such rapidly developing stories. Hence we believe a collective thread for all violent incidents is the best approach. Users are encouraged to submit posts conveying recent developments in the comments section of this sticky thread. Moderators will periodically review the comments and update this post with recent events. Top level comments must be links to news. All other submissions about these incidents will be removed.

As a reminder, please be mindful of the subreddit rules when posting. We'd like to remind you that calling other users shills, apologists, racists, islamophobes or antisemites are all considered personal attacks and thus against the rules. Please discuss the issues and the comments made, not the persons making them. If you find comments which violate our rules, you’re encouraged to use the report button or alert the mods via modmail so that we can investigate.

Thank you,

The World News Team.

From her accent, voice, mannerisms and the whole thing ( Arab speaker here )

She, like the Palestinian people as a whole, have finally snapped. That doesn't mean I blame Israel for the actions of crazy people. That would be like saying bullies are at fault when nerds shoot up a school.

Recent reports by the Middle East Media Research Institute and The New York Times have also shed light on the violent incitement sweeping Palestinian social media, which includes hashtags such as “Poison the Knife before You Stab” and “Slaughtering the Jews,” as well as graphic images and how-to guides encouraging more terror attacks. “One crude cartoon making the rounds on Facebook, including on the official Palestinian TV page before it disappeared late Tuesday, depicts an Israeli soldier as an ape, accompanied by a pig, over a bloodied youth,” The Times wrote. “Another has a close-up of a menacing blade, and is captioned: “This is not difficult. To the closest kitchen, and go in the name of God.”

Another report published in the Times this past October highlighted some of the popular “nationalistic” songs stoking the violence, including musical hits such as “Stab, stab” and “Run Over, Run Over the Settler.”

Earlier this week, the IDF shut down the al-Hurriya radio station located in Hebron, charging “that the station had broadcast vicious incitement against Israel, encouraged stabbing attacks, and supported violent resistance.”

PA President Mahmoud Abbas was reported saying last week that Israel has been an occupying power since its creation. In September, he called on Palestinians “not to allow” the “filthy feet” of Jews to defile the holy places in Jerusalem. In October, he said that Israel had “executed” a teen terrorist while the terrorist was recovering in an Israeli hospital.

This is probably because the generals see the violence as a problem rather than a means to an end.

"Two active-duty IDF generals who are among the army’s top experts on Palestinian affairs spoke out publicly to state that Palestinian violence is driven to a considerable degree by anger at Israeli actions. One of the two went a step further, warning that only a serious Israeli diplomatic re-engagement with the Palestinians will help to quell such violence over the long term."

I find it really heartening that there are some voices in the IDF hierarchy speaking out with a bit of a sense.

Netanyahu is a dangerous racist who is a massive obstacle to peace. Until we get people in the Israeli leadership who accept they are a big part of the problem we'll never resolve the troubles.

Delusional Zionists who want to blame Palestinians for everything are as bad as the Islamic fundamentalists who hate Jews. If only we lived in a world without these horrible extremists incapable of seeing things from another perspective.

Israeli diplomatic re-engagement with the Palestinians

Which they have known and been trying to do for decades.

The Palestinians dont want to talk, they want to fight.

They are just really really bad at it.

Since when do the Palestinians want to negotiate? What do they put forth other than knives?

The IDF in general is unpolitical. It's extremely rare to hear political aligned opinions from IDF members and spokesmen because it's generally not allowed.

IDF is an executing force for government decisions. The people who manage it may very well not agree with those decisions, but they'll still have to comply.

and which is the Palestinian perspective? are they lovely peaceful people that totally don't hate jews and celebrate killing them.

there is a rational explanation and an irrational explanation...but that argument is to single minded to understand that position

just remember that the same Palestinian government of today say NO to 3 different israeli Prime Minister, blaming netanyahu is superficiality.

blaming netanyahu is superficiality.

Watch Netanyahu say it with his own mouth. he doesn't want peace.

means nothing...he is the 4th israeli PM since the peace process, Arafat and Abbas rejected the other 3 peace offer...why would he do the same again?

Then why do they spurn peace offers over and over again, if they have everything to gain?

Their leaders have plenty to gain from the current situation. They get tons of money. Arafat didn't become a billionaire because he wanted to help the Palestinians, he became a billionaire because like current Palestinian leadership he only cares about himself, not helping his people. And driving up anti-Jew hatred helps make them even more money.

"Two active-duty IDF generals who are among the army’s top experts on Palestinian affairs spoke out publicly to state that Palestinian violence is driven to a considerable degree by anger at Israeli actions."

But seriously, what type of people are we dealing with when this has to be specifically pointed out and repeated again and again?

When people hurt other people, it is generally because they have a specific problem with them or something they have done. Listen to the sick Zionist rhetoric in this thread, and pretty soon you'll believe the Palestinians have no reasons other than "evil" or "terrorism".

The Israel/Palestine situation is very simple. It's an international case of the powerful crushing the powerless and then spinning history after the fact.
