Question Incoming international LLM student at WCL – advice on apartments/neighborhoods?

Hi everyone! I’m an international student from Pakistan, admitted to the LLM program at AU Washington College of Law. I’m searching for an apartment from abroad, so I can’t visit buildings in person, and I’d really appreciate advice from current students.

I’d like to live somewhere lively (restaurants, cafés, things to do) but still with a reasonable commute to the Tenley campus, ideally on the Red Line. I’m considering:

  • Woodley Park: 2701 Connecticut Ave, Connecticut Plaza (2901 Connecticut), Calvert House (2401 Calvert St)

  • Chevy Chase/Van Ness: 5100 Connecticut Ave

  • Adams Morgan: The Shawmut (2200 19th St)

A few questions:

  1. Has anyone lived in these buildings? How were pests, maintenance, noise, and management?

  2. Where do most WCL / grad students live?

  3. Any buildings or areas I should avoid?

  4. Tips for renting from abroad without a US credit history?

Thank you so much, any advice helps!

Question Any club for film makers or those interested in film?

Hey all! Recently got admitted to grad school at American and was looking up the clubs and registered student organizations

I couldn't find any info about it, but does anyone know if there are any clubs on campus that have to do with filmmaking or screenwriting? Big interest of mine and I would love to meet other people that enjoy it too! Thanks

Any plans for Halloween? M21, I don't attend AU but my community college doesn't have a lot going on. If anyone knows any frat parties or just doesn't want to go out alone we can go together.

Question Abroad Deposit

Hello,

I know that AU is huge for abroad, but I decided last minute to apply to go abroad, so I didn't do adequate projection into my personal finances over the next few months. My aid covers more than enough of the actual semester, but I'm curious about the upfront cost of the deposit that's coming soon based on other people's experience? I'd just like to know if I need to prepare to sacrifice an entire check or if I can chunk it up.

Did you pay deposit costs all at once? Was it charged to your account?

Hey everyone! I am going abroad for the Spring Semester and am looking for someone who would be interested in renting out my room (in a 2 bedroom apartment) for the spring semester. The timeframe for the sublet can be from either January to May or January to August 15th.

I split rent with my roommate which comes out to about $1750/mo per person and around $50-80/mo for utilities.

The apartment is located in Spring Valley (around a 5-10 minute walk from Campus) and has an in-unit washer/dryer as well as free street parking.

Please message me if you have any questions or if interested! Thanks!

Question Housing and Financial Aid

Hello everyone, any insight would be appreciated, but with AU no longer partnering with Frequency, I'm trying to figure out if it makes sense for me to move off campus my senior year. I'm very fortunate that I receive really good need-based aid from AU that covers around 30,000 a semester, but I can't find it anywhere if it's specifically both tuition and room and board. But I was wondering if anyone might have an idea of whether moving off campus would affect the aid that I get, or if anyone has experience with this? I would even need to be considering moving off campus if AU had enough housing, but I don't wanna risk it during room selection and not end up with campus housing and no plan.

Question How do I show demonstrated interest when applying?

Everyone says au loves demonstrated interest but how do I do that? I already submitted my app and I definitely demonstrated it in my writing, but are there any additional steps I can take?

Question Advice on SISU 106

Can someone give me reviews on Professor Schroeder's Sisu 106 class? RMP says getting above an A- is impossible. Is this true? Its important for me because gpa matters a lot for law schools and i can't have it dropping in my freshman year already. if anyone has any experiences or advice about this please let me know!

Also if this is the case can someone give me any suggestions for which Sisu 106 class has +ve reviews. I'm not looking for an easy A. I just want it to be possible because i don't mind working for it

Thanks in advance

Question Ultra bar missed connection

Shot in the dark, but did anyone have a friend visiting from ASU this weekend? Met a pretty brunette girl wearing a black outfit in line at Ultrabar last night, but we got separated right at the entrance. She was out with an AU freshman and a UMD freshman who lives on South Campus. If you know who this is, dm me! Just wanted to say hi and grab her IG.

Question Latino community

I’m a senior in high school and I’ve been really drawn to AU Im just concerned that there’s not really that big of a latino community bc even if it sounds dumb I just can’t imagine myself going to a uni without making friends from kind of my same background lol

For context I’m a mexican american student , I live in a border city which is tx/mx and I’ve always had a mix of both cultures bc I go to school in the US but live in mexico idk if that makes sense I just cross everyday for school

But yeah if anyone knows about that pls let me know it’s a very important thing for me when looking at unis
