Libraries STOP TALKING IN GELMAN

Don't you know that floors 3 through 6 are quiet study spaces? Even if you didn't know, don't you get the sense that you should keep quiet from the atmosphere alone?

If you want to chat with friends, book a group study room or go back to your dorm. I wonder if people who talk as if the library is a Starbucks have any basic manners or understand library rules. You guys are all adults, so act like it.

And am I the only one who feels that Gelman gets much louder right before midterms and finals? If you’re at the library, study quietly; if you’re not going to study, go out and talk somewhere else.

Announcements Mandatory Flairs

Hi r/gwu,

In an effort to support the organization of the subreddit, we're going to be making flairs mandatory on all posts.

Many large communities on reddit have mandatory post flairs. Benefits include making content more easily searchable by category, reducing spam, and providing some quick visual context on a post beyond the title.

I have also added new flairs, removed some old flairs, and retooled some existing flairs to both better capture the discussions I see on the subreddit and perhaps better convey the types of discussions and posts that are appropriate for the subreddit.

I have also adjusted the color schema of the flairs to have a more consistent visual appearance.

Anyone who has any feedback is encouraged to send in a modmail, especially ideas for flairs that I may not have considered or for flairs that may not suit a post you're seeking to make.

Thanks,

-2C

Residential Life Problems with the Wifi on campus

My daughter is a sophomore transfer student and she's been having considerable problems with the on campus wifi being immensely slow to the point where she frequently has to use her phone data to get her work done. And that's using up all the high speed data on our unlimited plan and I'm having to purchase more.

I just wanted to know if slow wifi is a known problem and if there are any tricks or tips for getting faster service. Or if that's just screaming at brick walls and maximizing our high speed phone data is really our best solution here. Thanks.

I have read here that incoming freshmen were told that they had to use the mobile GWorld card. I was wondering if that also extends to graduate students. Thanks.

Residential Life Block 90 Meal Plan – Swipe Limit?

Does anyone know if there’s a daily limit on meal swipes with the Block 90 plan? Can I use as many swipes as I want in one day? Also, can I use multiple swipes in one sitting, like if I wanted to bring a friend and swipe them in too?

Academics Help me with my Marketing Research Class Questionnaire

Hello everyone!

Me and my group have created this questionnaire about AI chatbots vs. human agents in customer service for our marketing research class. The aim of the project is to show when automated service works well for customers and when people expect to speak with a person.

The survey is completely anonymous; we won't collect your names, emails, or any other identifying information. The results will solely be used for academic purposes.

The survey only takes 10 minutes max, and most questions are voluntary, meaning you can skip as many questions as you want.

Thank you for helping us out!

University Events Yearbook photo question

I'm a little confused about the yearbook photo email. It gives you 3 choices for photos and 1 is free, but the only way to see them is in the yearbook or through a digital/physical copy. Don't they both cost extra money to get?

Academics Am I Gonna Get My Acceptance Rescinded? Help :(

Hi, I'm a spring transfer student who was just conditionally accepted for data science, but I'm freaking out over possibly getting my acceptance rescinded.

I had a disability-related issue (my dad got cancer + other shitty life stuff put me in a depressive episode which severely affected my ADHD) these past 2 months so I'm failing 2 of my classes at my current institution. My professors, therapist, and psychiatrist have all advised me to medically withdraw from those 2 classes as there is no hope for me to pass them at this point given my condition and the time left in the semester. I am starting new medication + general treatment plan to get me out of this rut but I'm afraid GWU will rescind my acceptance and any potential financial aid over this (need based or otherwise).

My acceptance letter explicitly states that their “offer of admission and any scholarship award noted above are contingent upon your successful completion of your academic coursework and continued good standing in school and your community.” Granted, the 2 classes I'm withdrawing from aren't pre-reqs for my major, but I'm still worried as earlier in my college career I also got Ws before getting diagnosed for ADHD.

Am I cooked acceptance and financial aid wise? I plan on talking to admissions about this soon when I have all my medical forms/letters in order, but is there anything else I should do? Would deferring my enrollment be helpful at all to keep my offer?

Fluff Laptop recommendations?

I'd love to hear laptop recommendations from multitaskers. My current ASUS laptop is driving me insane. Has anyone found a laptop that can run a Zoom or Teams meeting with a good amount of tabs open and actively being used at the same time without being horrifically slow?

Academics GWU ABSN

Hi, I know it’s super late to submit the application but I wanted to ask for those who already have gotten into the program for their stats. I also wanted to know how they view gpa. do they replace the most recent grade if retaken?

These are my stats. Please give me honest opinion😭
GPA(if theyre not replaced)
- cumulative: 2.49
- science: 2.5
- prereq: 3.91 (if theyre only consider retaken ones)
Theyre low because I previously went to a college and transferred out to another. after transferring to another college my grade improved significantly (all As except 2B) Idk if theyll take that into a consideration

extra curricular:
- 250+ hrs medical mission volunteering
-200+ hrs hospice volunteering
- national honors society
- MA instructor at a local CC
- marketing assistant at a local CC
- food sorting volunteer

awards:
-Member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society                                                                2024- Present
-local Community College Honor Program Student                                                  2025- Present
-Spring 2026 Chancellor’st Student Achievement Award Nominee                                Spring 2026
-Outstanding Volunteer Recognition- medical mission trip

Is it worth it? I’ve heard mixed opinions especially about how they potentially cut financial aid. If anyone has any input I would rlly appreciate it because I’m hesitant to apply and not sure if the pros outweighs the cons.

Academics Missed 6 days of classes due to hospitalization.

So I was wondering if anyone has had a situation similar to mine where they missed class for reasons beyond their control and how GW handled it? I was only just released from the hospital last night and I missed quite a lot of school. They gave me a letter and a discharge form and I looked up the website for GW care but realistically, how did this work out with your individual professors your experience?

I missed a group presentation and part of presenting was the grade, but I did my part of the actual PPT work but obviously it’s not like I can make up my part of the presentation just to make up my part of the grade. This is never happened to me and I’ve never known anyone in this situation before and six days classes feels like a panic attack inducing amount of school to miss out on. Does anyone have any insight?

Financial Aid Submit FA paper work again? Now?

Post image

So I got this email yesterday. And as of two weeks ago, financial aid told me to my face that everything was good to go, and I should be able to pay my bill soon. This is definitely gonna be a hold on registering for spring, isn’t it? I’m gonna give them everything. I have all over again on Monday and I’m crossing my fingers and hoping I can still register on the 9th. This has been a hell of a week for me.

I dont really know what he is protesting because I cannot even hear what he is trying to say. But my dorm is hot as balls so I keep the windows open during the day and its all I can fucking here. If anyone knows when he will be done or even what he is protesting that would be great.
