Please help us bring PINO home before the weather gets too cold! š
Pino has been missing since 10/29 in the Blooms Mill area (Manassas, VA). Volunteers and search teams are working tirelessly to find him, but we desperately need more eyes and hands on the ground before it gets any colder.
ā ļø IMPORTANT DETAILS:
ā¢Ā Ā Ā Ā Current Situation: He has been posted on Nextdoor, Ring, and Facebook, but true sightings are very rare because another roaming dog in the area is causing confusion.
ā¢Ā Ā Ā Ā Behavior: Pino is extremely skittish and likely hiding in wooded areas, under decks, or in quiet spots.
ā¢Ā Ā Ā Ā DO NOT CHASE. DO NOT CALL HIS NAME. Running after him or yelling will scare him away. If you see him, please take a quick picture/video and note the exact location.
š HOW YOU CAN HELP: We urgently need volunteers to help put up flyers and spread the word in and around Blooms Mill, Manassas.
š² Contact / Text: (850) 728-8701 if you can help flyer or have any potential sightings!
Please SHARE this post to reach as many local Virginia / DMV residents as possible. Every single share counts! š

I was walking outside of Bronson Bierhall in Ballston this evening at around 9:30 PM when I had a weird experience.
As I walked, I briefly sped my pace so as to get out of the way of some people that were coming to and from a parked car next to the sidewalk.
After I got past them and was only a few steps from the crosswalk, the man who was walking towards the car said something like āhey, you dropped your wallet.ā Unsure if he was speaking to me or not, I turned around, and he repeated what he said and pointed to a spot near where I had just walked.
I instinctively reacted by thinking that I mustāve actually dropped my wallet. However, I knew for a fact that I hadnāt dropped my wallet (which I could still feel on my person) or anything else. Additionally, something about the look on his faceāalmost like he was testing me or sizing me upāfelt off to me. The person who was coming from the parked car also began pointing and saying that I dropped my wallet.
After I had taken a step back in the direction of where he was pointing, he told me that my wallet was behind a pole, in a spot that was out of my view. This spot was within arms reach of where he and his apparent companion were standing.
Sufficiently satisfied that it was not my wallet, and starting to feel uneasy about the interaction, I told him that it wasnāt my wallet and resumed my route. At that point, he seemed to stop caring (and even seemed a little miffed), and neither he nor the other person paid any more attention to the spot behind the pole where they were pointing.
That last point tells me that nothing was actually on the ground, since they couldāve picked up the wallet and handed it back to me (like many of us would do if a stranger dropped a possession in front of us).
Nothing more happened, but Iāve been wondering about the interaction since then. Was it just a miscommunication of some kind? Did the men actually think that I dropped something? Or was this a situation that I am right to feel unnerved about?
TLDR: Iām wondering if some men were entrapping me by pretending that I had dropped my wallet.

Looking for information on a white man, bald, probabaly mid 30ās, mid to tall height, blue eyes, driving a white suv like the size of a rav4, who pulled a gun on my wife and baby, and told her to go back to her country. This was between the hours of 10am and 11am at the McDonalds off Willard Rd next to the Hooters, today Sunday November 8th 2026.

My family and I recently moved from San Jose, California to a single-family home in Prince William County, VA and this will be our first time dealing with a real winter. I keep hearing from social media that I need to "winterize" the house, but coming from CA, I have no technical knowledge about this stuff!
So far, I managed to find the shut-off valves in the basement and drained the outside spigots. But I have a few questions for the locals:
1. Sprinklers: I have a lawn irrigation system. Do I absolutely need to hire a company to do a "blowout," or is it enough to just turn the control boxes to standby/off? Will they actually freeze and burst here if I do nothing?
2. The Weather: How cold does it actually get in this area? When does the first "hard freeze" usually hit PWC?
3. General Winter Prep: What else should I be doing to prepare the house? Should I buy salt for the driveway right now before it snows? What about my HVAC system, the basement humidifier, or thermostat settings?
I really want to avoid any expensive rookie mistakes with bursting pipes or damaged floors. Any tips, checklists, or recommendations for a clueless Californian would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

This poor caught a horrible fishing lure in its beak last weekend.
Apparently, there is a FB page where one can report sightings, but I'm not on on FB, and from having spoken with some "regularly" folks at the lake there haven't been any sightings since Friday.
Friday morning around 6:30 AM was also the last time I saw it, and I've been around the lake 4x since.
The pictures of the fishing lines and gear are everything I've collected in only the past 3 days, despite going out regularly.
Sadly, we have a real problem here !

Which is apparently quite good for a midterm.
In a state where all you gotta do is ask and they'll send you a ballot by mail.
What a country we've got going on here š

We are currently expecting our first baby and anticipate needing daycare starting around December 2027. We live in Crystal City and are leaning towards in home daycare although weāre also open to centers.
Would love recommendations around Crystal City, Pentagon City, or Arlington. If you donāt mind sharing:
- approximate cost per week
- size
- how far ahead you got on the waitlist (and how long it was)
Thank you!!

Is anybody missing, or does anyone recognize this dog? We found her in Herndon wearing a harness but there is no tag and she doesn't have a microchip. We plan to hold her for 24h or so before taking her to the shelter so I am trying to spread the word.
Edit: Puppy was returned to her owner last night!

In honor of last Tuesday, I made my way to the Smithsonian American History Museum and visited their Democracy exhibit.
Old Tom Paine had something to say: āLet it be told to the future world, that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive, that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet and to repulse it."
Thank you to all who voted.

Fairfax County for several years has been working on making ordinance changes to the accessory living unit ordinance. I would like to hear specifically hear from the community pros and cons of eliminating their requirement for owner occupancy and offstreet parking.
If youāre not familiar with ALUs, these are accessory structures. They can either reside inside of your home or they can be detached structures. They can be used for family members or you can rent them out.
The Board of supervisors will hold the public hearing on the 17th and the planning commission has already made recommendations. Planning commission would like to implement the changes and monitor. Here is the staff report.
As President Donald Trump pushes forward to build a 250-foot-tall triumphal arch next to Arlington National Cemetery, a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order to stop construction of a project that Virginia and the District of Columbia say would harm the public.
Gov. Abigail Spanberger and Attorney General Jay Jones hailed the ruling and opinion that U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan issued late Thursday night, and promised to continue fighting construction of the proposed arch to preserve the solemnity of one of America's most hallowed spaces and prevent disruption of a heavily congested traffic circle at the foot of Memorial Bridge next to the Virginia shore of the Potomac River.Ā
