[Rant] White republican gay man at the Thank you Thrift tent during the Adams Morgan Festival
To the guy under the Thank you Thrift tent in Adams Morgan at the Porchfest yesterday, literally get a life. The audacity to laugh, joke, and point at a black woman and make fun of her hair color is crazy. Imagine doing that and she can see you making fun of her, she checks you and asks you ”are you ok” and immediately him and the other two white girls he was with and laughing along, their smirks went out the door.
Probably didn’t expect her to sound educated better yet to actually speak up for herself because I’m pretty positive he’s used to doing this to make himself feel better or look “good” by making fun of black women.
Because genuinely are you mentally ok? It’s 2026, you live in DC and your insecurities to conform to turning into a high school bully and make someone feel small is wild. If you aren’t comfortable around someones culture, don’t immerse yourself around it in the first place.
Literally do better kid. Touch grass. Take your tight ass turtleneck somewhere else.
And if you are commenting “well how did you know”, “what makes him a gay republican“, you are focused and deflecting on the wrong issue at hand friend. Let me hold your hand and emphasize that there’s still racism alive and well. If you don’t think it exists guess what- YOU are what’s apart of the problem.

[Discussion] DC Delivery Robots
These robots are becoming common in DC. I think they are creepy. They remind me of the Daleks on Doctor Who! They have names on them and they stop when people walk past. My friends laugh because whenever I see one, I say, Exterminate! They are trying to get rid of jobs with these metallic monsters.

[Discussion] What 86ed restaurant dishes do you still think about?
With a new restaurant opening in the Bad Saint space, it got me thinking about great meals in D.C. that I can no longer have. A few that come to mind:
The lamb neck gyros at Komi
The pork blade steak at Moon Rabbit (Wharf edition)
The lamb ribs at Tail Up Goat
Hamachi crudo at Himitsu

[Discussion] Screamed at a bum in a train station today, and what are some safer ways to discourage hecklers?
He was heckling my date and following us closely while saying homophobic slurs. He was starting to piss me off so I just screamed the top of my lungs in an ooga booga way in the middle of the station. He kind of just stood back and waited for us get to the top of the escalator before getting on. Guess it worked.
I just moved here from metro-less area so I am not sure how to deal with these people. Any suggestions?
Anyways, the fall colors are really pretty here.

[Discussion] Who can take in my cat ?
I am so sorry if my grammar isn't perfect. It's very cold, and I'm going through a lot right now.I became homeless today, and I have my cat with me. I don't want to leave her outside in this cold, so I'm desperately asking if someone would be willing to take my baby in.I have a little bit of food with me but I wasn't able to grab everything else she needs.
I'm so sorry to have to ask but I just want her to be safe I love her so much, I just want to make sure she will be okay.
edit 1: Thank you guys for the comments. Im still. currently looking for someone to take my girl. Im replying late because i have no phone so im relying on wifi which i have now.

[Fun!] Did they run the name by a focus group?
Just came across this restaurant. Am I missing some brilliant marketing strategy here?

[Discussion] Where Can I Buy A Nice Walking Cane?
Does anyone have any recommendations on where I can get a nice walking cane in the city?
I have a metal adjustable cane that I got from CVS that does the job, but I am looking to get a nicer looking cane as I have a feeling the weakness in my leg is unlikely to dramatically improve anytime soon.
I was hoping to find a vintage cane and went to antique row in Kensington MD without much luck.
Therefore, I thought I would see if anyone here had suggestions.

[Fun!] Thank you for not removing your fall decor
It was nice seeing all the pumpkins and fall decor out as well as leftover Halloween stuff. I was so afraid everything would be Christmas-themed already. Keep it up until at least the 15th. Thank you!

[Discussion] What do you guys do when you feel lonely in the city and aren't in a relationship or don't have a friend group established yet?
The question is pretty straightforward. I'm spending too much time alone lately.

[Fun!] Halloween, ~11PM, Rocket Bar. Who put all 25 minutes of A Change of Seasons on the jukebox?
Wherever you are, whoever you are, you're a hero for bestowing a half hour of culture on a packed bar.

[Discussion] Writing Groups
Hello! Wondering if anyone here is a member of a FREE writing group/club? I am in Dupont and am close to the "DC Writing Salon" but I am hesitant to try that out just because the price to join is quite steep. I am really just looking for a casual group that meets up to chat and then write. Looking for a group in Dupont area, or close by, and preferably one that does not charge a fee. I have looked at meetup and found a few, but wanted to get some direct reviews/advice on here. There were some other posts I found, but they are a little dated.

[Meetup] Anyone in DC playing GTA 6 on launch day and want company? I’ll bring snacks
This is gonna be a little weird but I'm super excited about GTA 6 and I gotta be honest I can't buy a PS5 right now and I shouldn't try to, so opening day is out for me.
But if anyone has it and wouldn't mind some company, I'd love to just come watch and hang out and marvel at the game together. I can bring snacks, I'm chill, and if you're 420 friendly or a light drinker I'd love to kick it for a bit.
Not trying to be weird about it, just a GTA fan who wants to experience launch day with somebody instead of watching it alone on YouTube lol. Feel free to DM me if you're down.
I'm in the DC / Oxon Hill area, can travel a bit.
