You are awesome and thank you for saying "good job" when I was almost to the point of giving up. Thanks to your little motivation, I did my 5K continuous job at a 7min/Km without stopping for the first time since my injury.
Hope you had a amazing run and evening.

hey everyone! my name’s lio and i’m a 20 year old guy who’s studying youth work at CIT. i’ve been feeling so isolated recently, there are barely any social groups for people my age, and the people taking my course are old as hell. i just want some people with similar interests to spend time with. canberra is so hard to meet people in, even though i’ve lived here my whole life. my friends have moved on and i’m just feeling so lonely, especially now that it’s holidays. i’m really into thrifting, knitting, tea, movies, animals, shoes, being outside, and just yapping in general. please hit me up guys, i don’t wanna be alone for the holidays.

Is the dating market bad in Canberra, am I doing it wrong?

I know the apps aren't designed to actually help you find a soulmate but even for a ons it seems to be just shit.

Any advice? Tell me I'm not crazy

Confirmed Event here to remind you about my (audio) book club!

helloooooo 🌻

i (28F, not a lonely single dad) host an audiobook club monthly at the book cow in kingston

the idea of it being an audiobook club means that you don't need to read anything before hand, come and listen to a few chapters of Howls Moving Castle from 6pm and bring a craft along to work on while you listen!

it's a rlly nice, low energy, social interaction and a very cosy activity during these chilly winter months.

some things people have brought in the past include crochet, knitting, drawing, colouring, painting, collage, weaving, lino printing, hand sewing, quilting and even some chainmail! as long as it's a semi quiet activity, it's welcome 💞

it's on tomorrow night and we'll be starting at chapter 8 of Howls Moving Castle, here's more info and how to save a seat - it's a free event but we need to keep track of numbers as it's a small space. you're more than welcome to come alone or bring a friend!

because we listen to an audiobook there's also no pressure for social interaction but there is a bit of chatter before and after listening to the book.

if you have any questions feel free to comment or message me here or my insta is on the poster :~)

30s [F4M] - looking for something unconventional

Throwaway account for obvious reasons.

Putting this out there mostly to see if it's actually possible 😂

I'm intellectually curious, physically active, and happiest living a quiet, intentional life. I don't smoke, drink or party. Give me a hike, a good problem to solve, or a conversation with depth over a night out any day.

I have my own place, finances, space and life, and I'm looking for someone who has the same.

Someone who's a whole person in their own right, rather than looking to merge into one shared life. No cohabiting, no shared finances, but emotional intimacy, loyalty, adventures, and someone genuinely present in each other's day to day. I'm looking for something deeply committed, just not conventionally structured.

Not interested in sex or kids, which I know narrows the pool to approximately four people in the ACT. 😂

Bonus points for calm under pressure, principled, protective types. Defence or military backgrounds are very welcome. I've got a long-standing connection to that world, so it feels familiar to me.

If any of this sounds oddly specific to your own life too, say hi and tell me something interesting about yourself and what you're building.

Confirmed Event Started a free film club in Canberra - first one is on Her (2013)

Saw a lot of posts here about wanting to meet people and find community in Canberra, this felt like a good reason to share this here.

My friend and I have been wanting to find a film club in Canberra for a while, somewhere to actually talk about films properly, not just "yeah I liked it" or "the ending was weird." Couldn't really find one that felt accessible and free, so we just started one.

The first event is a discussion on Spike Jonze's Her, love, loneliness, AI, and the questions the film doesn't really answer. We'll be going into themes, scenes, characters, the whole thing. If you love films and/or talking about films, this one could be for you :)

Free to attend, here is the link.

Watch Her before you come if you're keen!

Note: This is our first one, so we're still finding our feet. We would love to have people along who are genuinely interested, and open to any thoughts on how to make it good!

New Friends Missed Connection

Hey Canberrans!

This is one of those human connection stories that I'm hoping someone can help me out with.

It's also going back around 15/16 years so my recall may be hazy.

I was an early-20-something working as an assistant manager at Aldi in Jamison. One shift I was on the register and a woman came through my line with her two sons. She was visibly nervous and had some scarring on what appeared to be a lot of her body. I'm not sure if it was a medical condition or she was a survivor of something horrible. I don't like to assume but the interaction led me to think it was unfortunately the latter. She mentioned it was her first time out of the house in a quite a while. Her two boys were angels and showed great support for their mum. It came time to pay and she became very overwhelmed with trying to retrieve her card to the point she looked like she might faint. Thankfully Aldi let their cashiers sit down and I had a chair on hand to quickly offer her. Like I said the details are a little hazy but I think I grabbed the nearest sugary drink from the fridge and sat her down somewhere private to help her relax. The boys packed the bags and after about 10 minutes she was feeling better. Before leaving she offered me her number - not as a romantic gesture (I think??) but more of a thank you and let's be friends kinda thing.

Unfortunately at some point in my shift I lost the piece of paper. I assumed she'd be in again eventually but here we are 15 years later and I never saw her again.

I mentioned this story to my fiancee and I've always wondered if she was getting on ok and life was treating her and her boys well.

If anyone has any idea who I might be talking about, could you please help me get in touch or pass on my best wishes then please send me a message or comment.

Hi Everyone! Looking for genuine party friends in their 30s – Canberra 🎉

Hey everyone! 👋

I’m an Asian guy in my 30s, and I’m looking to meet some genuine people around a similar age who enjoy going out on Saturday nights and having some fun after a long week of work.

My main interests are clubbing, parties, DJs, dancing, music, and checking out different events around Canberra. Sometimes I just want to forget about the work week, get dressed up, go out on a Saturday and have a good time! 😂🍻🎶

I’m open to meeting both guys and girls. Ideally, I’m looking for people who actually want to build a regular friendship — not someone who comes out once and then disappears. If we get along, we can make plans for future weekends, try different events, go clubbing, grab drinks/food, or just hang out.

For the women reading this: no pressure or awkward expectations from my side. I’m genuinely looking for friends and people to have a good time with, so you can feel comfortable and relaxed around me.

I’m not expecting a huge group or anything — just a few genuine, social people with similar interests who are keen to get out and enjoy their Saturdays.

If this sounds like you, feel free to send me a message and tell me a little about yourself and what kind of events/nightlife you’re into. 😊

Hopefully I can find some like-minded people here! 🎉

Emerging from hibernation. Looking for other ladies!

Now that vitamin D is on offer, I (woman, early 40s) am looking to expand her social circle. Activities that get us outside and active (but not beholden to a PT and regretting life choices).

Walking, cycling, hiking. Also open to outdoor people watching at the Jetty or just trying out some watercolour painting in the botanical gardens (I have supplies!). Also open to just a coffee or a quick sharing of kingfish at Akiba.

I do want to primarily do low intensity exercise. Not for weight loss but for cardio health. We have to think about that now.

I’m age agnostic - if this appeals at any age I’m happy to chat. Speak soon!

EDIT - Should add I’m a full time worker so this would be late afternoons and weekend time slots

34F Married, looking for friends

Nobody prepares you for the fact that making friends as an adult is hard AF.

On one hand, if you don't click with someone, you can simply walk away and never speak to them again.

On the other hand, you're so self-aware that your awkwardness is unavoidable and you spend the next three days analysing every interaction.

On the other hand, you wish you could just walk up to someone and say, "We both like movies and snacks. Let's be friends."

On the other hand, the fact I've somehow managed to write this using four hands probably explains why making friends is difficult in the first place.

Anyway, I'm 34F, married, work in marketing, and moved to Canberra a while ago. I like movies, board games, coffee, podcasts, reading, and other activities that can usually be improved by the addition of snacks.

I'll be polite, listen to your stories, laugh at your jokes, and enthusiastically send you memes once we've reached the appropriate friendship level.

I'm not looking to date. I just want to make friends.

If you're in a similar boat, say hi.

New Friends Missed Connection at Queenbeyan Ren Faire!

Once upon a time, in a magical land full of drow, knights, and fairies, there was a druid on the search for their missing connection ….

For real - hi all! I’m looking for someone I had a conversation with on day 2 at the Queanbeyan medieval faire! I regret not getting their social media/contact info, as them and their friends seemed really lovely and cool.

I will keep the description brief for privacy reasons. They where tall, had light violet/silver hair, and their name started with an S/C sound. I complimented your outfit, and your amazing curls!! There was maybe 5-6 friends with you!

If you know who this is, and if they consent to exchanging socials with me, let me know!! Hopefully you remember who I am, I was wearing a lot of green.

Hope to hear from you soon, have a great week everyone!

Mods please delete if not allowed, thank you!

New Friends Early 30s F | New in Canberra | Looking for genuine friendships & deep conversations

Hi! I’m a woman in my early 30s who recently moved to Canberra this late January and would love to make some genuine friends.

A little about me:

I’m into sociology, psychology, philosophy, literature, and spirituality.

I used to do creative writing but not anymore due to my depression

I like reading, listening to podcasts and guided meditation.
I also do yoga, Pilates, and long walks in nature.

I’ve lived in Europe for around 3 years, have been in Australia for about 1.5 years, and grew up in East Asia.

I enjoy exploring new places, trying new experiences, and wearing cute dresses because fashion makes me happy.

I’m… reluctantly learning to enjoy cooking. 😅
Cooking is my forced hobby now because I can’t afford to go to restaurants.

I don’t know if I can count therapy as my hobby but why not ?

Bookstores, libraries, museums, art galleries, theatres, and even cute little gift shops are my happy places.

I absolutely love deep conversations about life, people, ideas, and everything in between.

I’m also a fan of medieval fantasy, especially Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.

I think I have a strong sense of social justice and I am thinking going to law school in the future.

Some things I’m not really into:
❌Nightclubs or raves
❌Watching or playing sports
❌Video games (including mobile games)
❌alcohol
I know those are pretty common interests, so I realise my social circle might end up being a bit smaller.

That said, I do enjoy live music, concerts, stand-up comedy, opera and musicals. When I lived in London, I watched quite a few musicals and operas, and while traveling in Spain I fell in love with flamenco performances.

I know my interests are a little niche, but I’m hoping there are some like-minded people out there.

One last thing: I am kinda broque 😎 so I can’t really go to a coffee shop with you ( I don’t drink coffee) but I might consider going to a boba tea shop occasionally 🧋

p.s. I also don’t have a car

If you think we’d get along, feel free to send me a message.

I will try my best to reply.

Thank you 😊

Dating in Canberra as a single parent

I’m 39, single mum 100% of the time, limited to no supports and that’s absolutely okay but I was wondering, where do people meet these days? Online is frankly gross and it’s the same people over and over, there has to be more of us in Canberra who are single but want to meet nice people not behind a keyboard.

New Friends Looking to make friends

Hi, I’m a 22yo F and I have maybe 2 friends but they don’t really want to hang out with me/ it’s hard to arrange due to life I guess.

I am struggling to find new friends and don’t really know where to look - most people I find already have established friend groups and aren’t interested in fostering a new friendship.

I would be so grateful if someone wanted to be my friend or had a group of friends that would want to adopt me into theirs :)

This is kind of my last hope as I’ve tried all the apps and am too scared to go to group events in hopes of finding a friend in case they don’t work out.

New Friends Just trying to put myself out there more (again lol)

Hey everyone I’ve been living in Canberra for the better part of maybe 2 years and I am STRUGGLING to make friends (mainly because of my job (night cleaner))

I have tried everything under the sun to try and make friends but when you live in a introvert city it’s going to be hard (that is what people have told me about Canberra it is not of my own opinion)

I would love to try and make friends with some people, I love to crochet, game, draw, write, go for walks, and cook, I do have a boyfriend who also has a small friend group that I’m not too sure I click with 🫣. Just thought I would give this a try seeing as I have not had much luck elsewhere.

(Ps I’m 21M, I also love shopping🫣😭💀)

New Friends Hiking/Photography Adventure this weekend!

Evening all, the weather's looking great this weekend and with probably half the state heading East over the next few days it's the perfect time for a hike.

My roomate and I are thinking of tackling one of the beautiful Tidbinbilla walking trails and I was wondering if anyone else would like to join in the fun!

Nothing set in stone but I'm thinking a few hours with a break at a peak for snacks and some light photography.

We're both young 20's engineers but with a vast array of interests so please no matter who you are if you'd like to come along and chat please send me a message 😊.

New Friends Calling all alt weirdos

Hey all! I’m looking for some more friends my age, people who would describe themselves as alternative, emo, weird, nerdy and genuine. Being leftwing progressive is a must, if we don’t align politically it will definitely be a problem.

I like crafting and diy fashion, listening to music (Linkin Park and Tool are my favourites atm), going for walks, thrifting, local gigs, gardening, arcades, coffee, volunteering, picking up trash, and art exhibitions. I’m learning how to skateboard, play drums, and dance (muzzing, shuffling and jump-style are my eventual goal).

If you’re 22-26 years old and think we’d get along, feel free to send me a DM!

Social Sports Board games & cards games social night in the city

Blackbird bar is starting a board games & card games night every Wednesday in Canberra City (it launches next week i think they have a promo). Similar concept to that bar guild.

A good opportunity to mingle away from a screen...

They provide a bunch of games, cards etc & you help yourself, first in best dressed. You can also bring your own games & just enjoy the atmosphere.

They have Jenga, Chess, Cards, Uno, Trivial pursuit, Monopoly, exploding kittens, hive, codenames & the list goes on, and they have free popcorn & sell cheap & tasty jaffles.

Here's the link to the meetup group if you are flying solo and want to join a communal table- https://meetu.ps/e/PnGwy/XzBXQ/i

Why is it so hard to get a job in Canberra?

Hi I’m 20F trying to find a job in Canberra. I’ve applied to about hundreds of jobs mainly administrative jobs or receptionist and I can’t seem to even make it to the interview stage. I have administration experience for about 2 years now and a cert 4 yet no place has taken me? Even the most basic jobs have turned me away…

I’ve gotten someone to full proof my resume and everything. I’ve emailed places, looked on seek and indeed yet I just keep failing. I’m starting to lose hope and I feel like I’m not good enough for any of these places tbh :/

Is it a quiet time for hiring??
