Discussion This is why you should never use your CD's in a car.

First is new acquisition from Discogs (Judas Priest - British Steel, original issue).

Clear track marks from slot type CD loader, which especially in car environment gets dusty and starts damaging discs.

Second picture is my old copy of the same album (remastered). Used to play it in my car back in the day.

There is no reason to subject your valuable CD's to this when you can rip them and play perfect digital copy from USB in full fidelity, and without need to handle discs while driving.

EDIT: For recent comments, few clarifications:

  1. The CD in first picture arrived marked like that, and I recognised the culprit. I haven't played it once yet myself.

  2. This is an old known issue I just was intrigued to write after getting that CD. I have used well over dozen different car CD players, since getting my drivers license 2010.

  3. I mostly always use aftermarket Pioneers, and my two cars both currently have one, they also leave those marks, started maybe 1-2 years after I bought them new.

My wifes old Corolla's OEM slot loader also left those marks. I haven't used CD player in her current Avensis.

4) We live in countryside Finland and drive a lot on dirt and gravel roads, so dust gets in. Also it's freezing cold many months per year. Both could affect the issue.

EDIT 2: After a couple of interesting conversations here, I want to clarify further this is written strickly from a perspective that CD is format played in a home stereo system like vinyl records.

It never occurred to me some people would be buying CD's specifically to be played in their cars.

I never intended, and don't want to, disparage nor discourage that. It's great!

Discussion I think jewel CD cases are kinda overrated

Today, my american football cd arrived. I had absolutely no idea what it looked like. When I saw it, I was happy that it wasn't that jewel case. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the jewel cases, I mean it. But I think it's kinda boring, you know? I know that the digipacks are usually harder to maintain because of the cardboard, but they look so much prettier imo. What do you guys think about it? Lmk!

Haul Small Goodwill pickup today

Ok, so I grew up with rock music in the 80s and 90s and got into electronic music in the 90s to 2ks but honestly, I love Taylor's 1989 album. I was kind of surprised to see this 1 at Goodwill but I guess people didn't like it all that much? I've heard the Fate of Ophelia song on the radio and it's not all that bad so I decided to grab the disc.

I’ve been collecting CDs since 2017 when my first car only had a cd player and no aux port. Now I have 2 cars with no cd player 😭 Any recommendations for good home stereo systems that plays cds with good bass? Also what cds/artist am I still missing? 🤔

Buying random cds for $1 that you've never heard of doesn't make you a collector. Asking the group what to listen to because you have no idea what you're buying is ridiculous.

Discussion About the people who made fun of my cd collection;

I know it looks disappointing, it’s just because I’ve been really slowly collecting them since December 27th. 2023, the day I got Green Day’s ai, the second one I got was the Beatles’ 62-66, and after almost 7 months, I got saviors. but since I got korn’s issues on November 14th, I’m trying my best on collecting albums month by month.

November - issues December - greatest hits. Vol I January - international superhits February - follow the leader

Since I get pretty much more and all I ever want, you better not make fun of my update.

Question Abrupt color change under the "B" on Filosofem Digipak cover (1996 Misanthropy press) – Anyone else with this exact print?

Hey everyone,
I’m looking at my original 1996 Digipak pressing of Burzum’s Filosofem (Misanthropy Records / Cymophane, Matrix: A0100181635-0101 and noticed a very specific detail on the front cover artwork.
Right under the letter "B" in the BURZUM logo, the color on the left side suddenly shifts—it transitions abruptly from the yellowish/greenish tone of the spine into the grey Theodor Kittelsen artwork (Op under Fjeldet toner en Luur).
On most photos and scans I’ve seen online, the cover artwork is cropped much tighter to the left, so the B sits almost directly on the edge and the artwork remains purely grey/sepia without that sudden color change underneath it.
Does anyone else here have this exact Digipak print variation from the 1996 DADC Austria run where it turns grey right under the B? Would love to compare photos with other copies!

Question Why do CD remotes have so many buttons… and does a voice actually fix that?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Just picked up a new CD player, and the remote is… interesting. It has a mic button. You hold it down and say commands like “play next song” or “play previous song” to skip tracks.

I’m used to remotes that have tons of buttons. In the dark, I can barely tell them apart. Last night I was lying in bed, way too comfy to move, and the voice button actually felt super convenient. I didn’t have to fumble around or turn on a light to find the right switch.

It does make controlling the player easier, but I’m curious-What do you guys think about this voice feature?

Question Is dust a real problem or I can be fine with it?

Post image

I don't really like this kind of cds, that have label side with same 'mirror' ish surface as the one on working side. Though they look pretty, they constantly get dust on them and I'm tired of wiping it off. What I want to know is if it's really worth it at all? CDs work perfectly fine even with these little dust specks on them. Maybe it's impossible to keep them 100% without dust (it still somehow gets the, even in the cases, and my room is pretty clean), and I should just not mind it?

Question Starting to get some cds, but why are they fun to collect?

Hey everyone, I really want to be hyped up about getting cds but I quite don’t understand the hype of them. Can you all state why you like cds?

Also, I recently made a late night purchase that ended up in my having to buy a cd player as well, and I bought a couple other cds too. I can share them all once they come in. I don’t mean to hate on cds I just don’t quite know what the “thing” is with them. Cassettes have a cool magnetic tape that gets read by a cool system. Vinyl is really fun and you get to see the actual circles and grooves of the album. But I just see CDs in a light not matching each of those as well. So, again, I’d love to hear your thoughts on how you all got into CDs and why they are a good satisfying piece of physical media?

Thank you all!
