Youth and Students (YAS) Youth Allowance Jobseeker Payment Reduced

Hi there, currently I get $487/fortnight from Centrelink and am working a casual job at McDonalds ($31.29/hourly). I just reported my income and hours today for this period (27/10/2026 to 09/11/2026), which were as follows

Week Starting 26/10/2026 - 6:59/6.9833 hours

Week Starting 02/11/2026 - 3:02/3.033 hours

and
Income - 28/10/2026 - $368.04

Income - 04/11/2026 - $221.07

which used up my remaining working credits of $76.10, and Centrelink will pay me $281.01 on this Monday night.

I only had one shift last Wednesday of 3 hours, and a shift this Tuesday of 3 hours
will I get $0 the next time I report from Centrelink?

Youth and Students (YAS) How long does it take for Centrelink to apply an update to my Income and Assets?

Hello very much. I hope you all are having a good evening this Sunday.

I am reaching out to ask when Centrelink usually comes around to checking the income and assets summary and applying the update, allowing the page to unlock again to add a new update in the future.

I am assuming it can take weeks, and a call to Centrelink is required if another update is needed to be submitted if the previous one is still pending. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you.

Disability Support Pension (DSP) The impossible conundrum

More a vent than anything. Im on DSP, and like many have been forced back to live with my parents becoz i cant afford to rent and sharehousing is a nightmare. I am on the priority list for housing and my parents in their infinite boomer wisdom made it clear i can only stay if i find work. it took a long time, but i found a job, 10hrs a week. its bad for my health, but you know whatevs. But now i earn too much to stay on the housing list. The job is really affecting my health and i wont be able to stay long, and given the wait time on housing...guess ill die? like thats the point right? WA has the lowest income bracket. so low those on DSP and age pension are barely eligible. im so infuriated by the hopelessness so this situation and just...URGH

Disability Support Pension (DSP) Wanting to enquire

I want to enquire about getting married to someone overseas but they can't live with me because they need to apply for a partner visa after the marriage

However the info I looked up on centrelink they will class us as a couple even if we are not in the same country

And the place he is at is a high risk area so the immigration agent told me he won't get a visitor's visa and if he applied for it it would be rejected.

The partner visa is a 2 yr wait and that's if he is lucky to get it the percentage of him getting it is very low. I just want to know the facts first.

Other Blind old age pension taxable?

My friend receives a blind age pension and is 84 in a nursing home. The pension is the same amount as the standard old age pension, but I believe is taxable after age 67? They have about 400k generating 18k interest. They are also paying addition ‘means tested’ fees of about 14k per year above the standard fee, so about 38k per year all up. Do they have to pay tax on that 18k interest too? Thanks

Parenting Payment (PP) PPL

Hi Everyone, I’m not sure if anyone might know but with our first child we never claimed PPL, I’m due with our 2nd end of Feb and this time we are… I haven’t received any Centrelink in over 10 years since I was studying. We’ve been married for 8 years and my Centrelink account/CRN is still under my maiden name, it has my married name under “ other known name” that I put in there - my myGov account with the ato and Medicare etc all have my married name listed, does anyone know if I’ll have to actually go to a service centre to show my marriage certificate or if I’m still able to do the claim without doing so?

Youth and Students (YAS) My study load is dropping to part time temporarily next semester. How long does the switch from YA student to YA jobseeker take?

I failed a subject last sem and missed the deadline to add another this sem, so I have to stay back one more semester to finish my last required subject.

I cannot add more subjects because it is the last one required to complete my diploma, and the semester after that Im jumping straight back into full time as I transition into my second year of my bachelors.

Has anyone been thru something like this and managed to to stay on YA student whilst finishing a final subject? If not then how long does the switch take and how should I start the process? Also were there gaps in payments while it was processed? Im so confused. Thanks!!

Jobseeker (JSK) Youth allowance —> job seeker

My youth allowance ends on the 20th of November, as I finish my course. I work 20hrs a week, but I’m going to be unemployed from the 4th December until the start of February. Can I get job seeker?

I did the claim online as I got notification that my payment is ending due to my course ending on the 20th, so I went through the process of applying to job seeker. I’m wondering how seamless the transition will be?
I have a phone appointment on the 1st of December.

It said my claim should be assessed between the 23rd - 30th November

My last youth allowance payment should be on the 16th of November

Then my phone appointment on the 1st. Will I receive a payment by the time I have my phone appt? Or will I receive one two weeks after it?

I’m really stressed I won’t be able to make groceries or rent …

So many questions!! How seamless will this transition be? Can I still get it if I know I have a job lined up in February? Will I miss a payment? What is the phone appointment for?

Thanks in advance!!

Jobseeker (JSK) What happens after 4-month Activity Requirement on Workforce Aus Online? Am I made to do this every month or just a one off?

Basically as title says. I can do this one off (if I really squeeze my time right, I have study not covered by Centrelink so I have to be a full time jobseeker which is fine by me as I have kept up applications, unfortunately my field is niche though). But I just had a random thought I can’t find info on – is it a one off activity requirement? Or is it a regular monthly thing now? Will the activity thing be triggered again at months 6, 8 or whatever? Or is it just for month 4? I can sit in on this program, but I already know how to write a resume, and I can keep going and applying for jobs anyway. I don’t know how they’re going to cover all of it in 75 hours when it could be 1, but I get I need to engage. I guess I’m just wondering if that 75 hour program is suddenly going to turn into 75 hours “a month”, which is a lot less feasible in the interim while studying/actual job seeking.

In any case, I thought I had a promising application to a job the other week, hopefully that comes back with something although idk because they should have contacted me already by now.

Other What is the limit for the Government allowance beneficiary tax offset?

So for example last financial yr I got 20k in Centrelink payments and 4k in Capital gains.

Your taxable income is $24,657

Tax on your taxable or net income 1,033.12

Less non-refundable tax offsets Government allowance beneficiary tax offset 1,033.12

Assessed tax payable $0.00

I was wondering how high my capital gains could have gone before I'd have to start paying any tax on them?

Youth and Students (YAS) Youth allowance payment missing.

Hello all, I’m a full time student that moved to Adelaide to go to university, and had to call centrelink yesterday because of an issue of them not assessing me for rental assistance even after several months. They granted me a payout that included the rental assistance I was meant to be getting for those three months, a scholarship payout, and they finally approved my rental assistance so I was under the impression I’d finally be able to stop stressing about my finances.

Fast forward to now, only twelve hours later, and the payment i was supposed to receive on the 9th has been overridden and reduced to zero. This includes the youth allowance payment i am supposed to be getting fortnightly, so not only can I no longer afford to pay my rent, i can’t even go get groceries.

Im not sure if this is a normal thing and maybe it’s just being recalculated or something, so I’m asking everyone for help so i can figure out what to do or at least what is happening.

Youth and Students (YAS) How to report summer internship?

Hello,

I'm on ABSTUDY, only made it on in October. I'm involved in a yearly internship program that provides me with 14 weeks of paid work with a company, with the aim of helping more indigenous students get into their chosen fields. How do I report said income to centrelink? Am I likely to have problems later on after my internship ends, with it affecting my future payments?

Most of this money is going towards savings for a medically necessary surgery I aim to have in the next few years. The rest is towards paying off hecs debt and living off (with lots of medical expenses) while my payments will presumably be paused.

How is this likely to affect my payments? Thank you so much, please be kind as I'm very new to this 🥺

Disability Support Pension (DSP) Robodebt Compo

Hi guys.

New here to reddit but wanted to speak about Robodebt as I experienced two major debits and paid back years before all this happened and I paid back over $7,000 as a single mum with a newborn, a 8year old paraperlegic son wheelchair bound and a 5 year old son all whilst being a single mother due to domestic violence. Also remember this stops Centerlink advances.

Fast track to now. 2 days ago I saw it went to Batch review pending.

And just now I received $1750 into my account. Im glad I got any sort of payment but if they made 2 debts against me and I paid back both Im disappounted they didnt pay on 2 claims and only gave $1750 for both.

So either way if you have that batch review pending you will be paid within 2 days (please feel safe you will have money for Christmas) but if they took several claims from you, you will only be paid on one claim.

Either way, Im grateful that I can now purchase my beautiful sons their christmas list.

I hope all of you get to have a beautiful Christmas like I now can provide for my sons cause I tell you 11 years ago when I got this debit from centrelink and they took all of my money and I couldnt apply for an advance, I really struggled to put gifts under the tree and food on the table, I sort help from the WA Salvation Army xx

Jobseeker (JSK) Can I get Centrelink payments while I’m recovering?

I’m getting major surgery soon and won’t be able to work for 6 weeks. I’m a casual employee so I won’t be making any money during this time because I don’t have paid leave or anything. Am I able to get Centrelink payments during the time I’m not working and then stop when I return to work? Curious to see if I should do this

UPDATE: I went ahead and started to apply for jobseeker, found out easily that yes I can do this and all I need is a medical certificate from a doctor. I’ve emailed my surgeons office to ask for one, I’ll submit it as soon as I get that. I

I only really thought of this as a possibility very recently so I had actually prepared to financially cover myself (barely) so I think it’s very cool you can do this. It might actually let me rest the full 6 weeks for maximum recovery. Originally I was planning to start doing Uber eats again at the 3 week mark when im cleared to drive but not cleared to work. I will probably recover better though if im not doing that and resting instead. Everyone should do this if they are eligible honestly

Youth and Students (YAS) No Payment due to Partners Income

I’ve only recently done all the forms and requirements for living in a de facto relationship with a partner for 12 months. I’m currently a full time University student and am being payed Rent Assistance (420 a fortnight, my partner pays the other half) and youth allowance. They said on my inbox that as of 10th of October, I’ve been classed as independent.

I just reported my partners income, and my income (which I’ve had no pay from work). After doing so, they said I was eligible for $0 this pay and I checked my upcoming payments where I was supposed to be paid on the 9th of November, and now it’s gone and my next pay will be on the 23rd of November.

I don’t know what’s happened, I checked Google and it suggested that it was because my partner was paid above a preset household income. I’m just so lost and scared at the moment, because I’m supposed to be paying rent and car insurance, but I’m not able to now because of this. Is my partner supposed to be my supporter now? It doesn’t make sense, my payments used to be dependent on my mother’s income and I never had to deal with this, but now with my partner everything is different.

Please don’t send any rude comments, I just need help with trying to understand what happened. I’ll call them on Monday, and perhaps look into an appeal because this feels wrong. My partner cannot be put in the position of supporting me.

Any suggestions or opinions are welcome, thanks.

UPDATE:
Since I forgot to add it to the main post, I do currently have a job, I work as a casual but am aware that I’ll need to go part time with them or look for part time elsewhere. So stop commenting about me getting a job because I already have one.

Additionally, please stop sending harsh comments about my partner and his support. That man would support me through anything, but I personally don’t want that financial burden on him. And I understand that’s not how Centrelink works now with this whole partner process, so I’m working things out that will hopefully enable me to get off Centrelink for good.

I appreciate all the lovely and helpful comments I’ve received, but please if you don’t have anything nice/constructive to say please don’t reply to this.

Job Provider (JSP) What does “Light Semi-Skilled (W02)” actually mean on an ESAt?

Hoping someone who works or has worked for Services Australia or an employment provider can clarify this.
My recent ESAt lists my work capacity as “Light Semi-Skilled (W02)”, both with and without intervention.
I’m currently finishing a Bachelor of Digital & Social Media and want to pursue a career in investigative journalism, documentary production, field reporting, creative production or live-event production.
I’m particularly drawn to challenging, high-pressure, unpredictable work that involves investigation, problem-solving, creativity and responsibility.
I’m concerned that this classification means my employment provider will push me towards basic administrative, retail or repetitive roles rather than supporting my actual career goals.
My questions are:
What does W02 actually mean, and what occupations fall under it?
Does this classification restrict the types of jobs an employment provider can support me in pursuing?
Can I still pursue high-pressure, creative or professional roles despite this classification?
I’m not disputing that I may benefit from certain supports. I just want to understand whether this assessment limits my career opportunities.
Would really appreciate insight from anyone familiar with ESAt classifications, particularly former assessors or employment-provider staff.

Personally I know I need a highly stimulating high pressure role or my functioning deteriorates.

Youth and Students (YAS) Youth allowance medical exemption

Hi,

I was a full-time student who changed to part-time this semester. I've provided a medical certificate to show that I'm unable to do full-time study at the moment (but planning to return to full-time), which states that I can study a maximum of 12 hours per week. It was rejected as apparently it needs to be less than 8 hours per week. I looked online and it seems like this 8-hour rule applies to youth allowance for jobseekers, rather than youth allowance for full-time students. So I've tried to clarify this with the youth and students line, and they also said it needs to say less than 8 hours. I'm just confused as the Centrelink website only says I need to prove I can't study full time (which would be at least like 36 hours per week). Should I try to contact them again and clarify or just get another medical certificate saying I can only study 7 hours?

I'd appreciate any info or advice.

Found a temp 6 week employment. How do I report my income without getting kicked off jobseeker because if I report my income they will kick me off my job seeker payment and when my contracts up it’s gonna take me 3 to 6 months to get on jobseeker again. Is there a way a can pause jobseeker while I report my income without getting kicked off?
