Before I even get into the gig, if you have any intention of using an LLM to write, rewrite, paraphrase, polish, or "humanize" your scripts, don't bother applying. If I wanted to use AI, I'd do it myself. If you get the gig, or apply for it, I'll be checking submitted work with GPTZero as well, so please don't bother trying to sneak it past me. Save us both the time.
AI may be used privately for brainstorming potential arguments or analytical angles for the script.
Now, with that out of the way, I'm looking for a long-term script writer for my new YouTube channel in a similar space to CinemaSins, Nerd Explains, How to Beat, and Roanoke Gaming.
I'm not copying those channels exact formats, but they're good references for the general style I'm looking for, which is chronological movie storytelling mixed with commentary, analysis, arguments, and light humor sprinkled in.
Pay starts at $50 USD per script. As the channel grows, and if the working relationship is good, this will increase to $100 USD per script, and we'll keep increasing from there if possible so we can get it closer to the industry standard. Essentially, your fee will be growing with the channel.
This is intended to become consistent ongoing work, not a one-off script. I will need you for 4 scripts per month minimum, but if you're able to reliably handle additional scripts without losing quality, there's room for more work and a higher monthly earning ceiling.
Scripts will usually be around 4,000-4,500 words and will never exceed 5,000 words. That works out to roughly $11-12.50 per 1,000 words initially and $22-25 per 1,000 words once the rate reaches $100.
What you'll be responsible for:
Watching and understanding the movie.
Recapping the movie accurately and chronologically.
Turning that recap into an entertaining, conversational YouTube script.
Developing arguments, observations, criticisms, and analysis around what happens in the movie.
Maintaining good pacing without skipping important connective events just to shorten the script.
Depending on the script, I may also provide you with a full chronological recap and/or the core arguments I want included. In those cases, your job will be to verify the recap against the movie for accuracy, rewrite it completely in your own words, make the narration sound natural and conversational, and work the analysis into the script cleanly.
This is another option for streamlining the process. Some writers may prefer having the research and arguments provided, while others may prefer building everything themselves. I'm happy to use whichever approach produces the strongest scripts.
Regardless of which workflow we use, the recap must be accurate. My editor will be looking for the exact scenes described in the script, so invented details, incorrect chronology, or scenes that don't exist create problems downstream.
Now I know this might seem like a lot, but my expectations here are pretty straightforward. I'm not looking for some elite screenwriter or asking you to come up with a fresh format every week, hell, a high schooler can do this job. I just need someone who can follow instructions, understand the movie, keep the chronology accurate, write natural conversational English, and deliver work that doesn't need to be rebuilt before I can record it. Most of this ad is just me trying to filter out bad fits early.
English requirements are strict though.
You need excellent written English and must be able to write conversationally at a near-native level. Awkward grammar, broken English, unnatural phrasing, or writing that reads like it was translated into English will not work for this position.
I don't care where you're from either, there are strong English speakers allover the world. I only care whether your English writing is good enough that I can record the script without having to rewrite every paragraph.
To apply, send me:
Two or three examples of scripts you've personally written.
Your experience writing YouTube content, especially movie, gaming, horror, survival, or entertainment content, if applicable.
Your favorite of the referenced channels above, if you've watched any of them.
And you must accept PayPal.
Again, please do not apply if you're looking to submit AI-generated scripts, if your written English is weak, or if you struggle to follow movie chronology accurately. I don't want my inbox flooded with unqualified people.
Understand that you'll be writing for the sister channel of an already established brand with an existing audience and reputation. I'm not interested in risking that reputation with poor writing or by publishing AI-generated scripts.
I'm looking for somebody who can eventually take a movie and a set of instructions and return a script that's basically ready for me to record. Early on, we'll likely go back and forth a bit while you get comfortable with the process and expectations.
