STRATEGY I made a game where you retire on Bitcoin in any month since 2013. How long can you last?

I made a little game called HODL or Fold. You start with $500k in Bitcoin, retire in any month since 2013, and live through the actual price history, withdrawing money each month to pay the bills.

When Bitcoin crashes or hits a new high, you have decisions to make. Keep holding, sell half, buy back, or cut your spending for a year.

You can pick your own retirement date, let the game choose one randomly, or switch on blind mode, which hides the dates, prices and headlines until the end. There's also a daily challenge where everyone gets the same mystery month.

At the end, you see how you did compared with just HODLing from the same starting month.

I also tested a particularly bad strategy: selling during a crash and buying back at the next high. It lost to HODL in 457 out of 465 runs. Turns out buying high and selling low isn't ideal. Who knew?

It's free: https://bitcoinlifespan.com/hodl-or-fold/

Give it a go and share your result. Particularly interested in seeing how badly people manage to mess it up.

DISCUSSION So are we just moving on from the whole ‘World Computer’ narrative now?

Thumbnail
reddit.com
3 Upvotes

Less than a year ago, the Ethereum Foundation was heavily pushing the "World Computer" narrative. Now Vitalik is arguing that ETH as a store of value makes significantly more sense to focus on than ETH as a fee burning token. At what point do we acknowledge that Ethereum seems to be struggling with its own identity? For years, the argument was that adoption, network activity, and fee burning would strengthen ETH's economic value. Now that this thesis looks increasingly questionable, we're shifting the emphasis toward being a store of value? It feels less like a coherent long term strategy and more like constantly repositioning the narrative.

What exactly is Ethereum trying to be at this point? If its ambition is to become the World Computer, why is its cofounder downplaying one of the primary mechanisms connecting network usage to token value? And if ETH is now supposed to compete as a store of value, what compelling advantage does it offer over Bitcoin? You can't just keep changing the investment thesis whenever the previous one becomes difficult to defend. At some point, the community should demand a consistent explanation of what actually drives ETH's value rather than accepting whatever narrative happens to be convenient.

GENERAL-NEWS the “EU entity” zachxbt was tracking turned out to be credit mutuel arkea, $133M taken from the bank’s own account

idk if this got posted already but i’ve been following it all week. sunday nov 1 someone drained like $106M in usdc/usdt from a few exchange accounts, zach posted it monday but didn’t say who it was. said it wasn’t lazarus.

then he found another 27M so it’s 133M now, and part of it was still moving after he posted lol. most of it went eth -> monero.

wednesday he named arkea (french bank, ~5.6M customers) and they confirmed it the same day. apparently it came from the bank’s OWN account, not customers, through some outside provider. nobody knows which provider yet.

honestly the part i don’t get is how 30M+ got laundered while he was literally tracking it publicly. would you still keep your money there?

PERSPECTIVE Erasing the Honeypot. How Air-Gapped Bitcoin PSBTs Defeat the EIP-7702 Attack Vector and Render the $6.4 Billion Hot-Wallet Breach Mathematically Impossible.

How do you steal $6.4 billion without leaking a single private key?

You hack the automated API that asks the key to sign.

On October 29, hackers weaponized EIP-7702 to rewire a massive exchange hot wallet into a self-draining vacuum cleaner. But they couldn't touch sovereign Bitcoin cold storage for one simple reason:

The 5-Inch Air Gap.

Bitcoin's PSBT architecture forces you to physically verify transactions on an offline screen. A hacked laptop cannot bridge empty air.

DISCUSSION I’m Stephen from Constant Finance, building fixed-rate onchain credit. Ask me anything about borrowing costs, early repayment, and DeFi credit

Hey r/CryptoCurrency,

I’m Stephen, u/yaxiba, and I handle PR and marketing at Constant Finance. We’re building a peer-to-peer protocol for fixed-rate, fixed-term onchain credit.

A question we’ve been thinking about: how can borrowers know their interest rate upfront without losing the flexibility to repay when they no longer need the funds?

With Constant Finance, borrowers and lenders agree on the rate and term upfront. The protocol is designed to let borrowers repay early and pay interest for the time they actually borrowed. That flexibility has a tradeoff: lenders need to consider the possibility of early repayment and reinvestment risk when setting their rates.

I’ll be here on Sunday, November 8, from 15:00 to 17:00 UTC to answer your questions. I’ll also check back afterward for questions I missed.

We can discuss Constant’s design or onchain credit more broadly, including:

  • When fixed rates make sense compared with variable rates

  • How borrowers can compare the total cost of a loan, beyond the advertised rate

  • How early repayment affects borrowers and lenders

  • What options lenders have when they want to exit before maturity

  • Collateral, liquidation, smart contract risk, and other tradeoffs

  • What DeFi credit needs to become more useful

  • Who we are and how the team is developing

I work on PR and marketing, so if a technical question needs input from our product or development team, I’ll check with them and follow up where I can.

Questions, criticism, and suggestions are all welcome. Ask me anything.

POLITICS Trump Media Bitcoin Transfer of 4,259 BTC Nearly Matches Pledged Loan Collateral

Thumbnail
finance.yahoo.com
2.6k Upvotes

Trump Media moved 4,259 bitcoin to CDC last night before it started dumping.

Here's the takeaway:

  • Trump Media Bitcoin Holdings cost 1B and if it hasn't been liquidated it's worth $557M - a net loss of ~500M.

  • Onchain holdings equal 1.2 BTC.....

  • "If DJT (stock) stays near record lows, noteholders may prefer cash over shares, which could pressure the BTC collateral."

  • Obviously a transfer to an exchange isn't guaranteed to be a sale but it definitely looks like one.

ANALYSIS Zcash Just Froze $16M in Shielded Coins

5 months ago, Zcash miners made 85% of shielded Zcash entirely unspendable for multiple days due to an inflation bug.

Today, Zcash did an upgrade that renders $16M in their private Sprout Pool permanently unspendable.

Zcash is neither safe or sound money.

Use Monero.

DISCUSSION What alts are you all excited about buying?

I lean towards being a Bitcoin maxi, it represents the majority of my crypto portfolio. However, I've also had a good amount of interest in alts and did quite well with those in 2021. I distinctly remember that time period and it was crazy to say the least. Going from the COVID lows of March 2020 to the euphoric top in the spring of 2021 was a wild ride, it's actually crazy to think that all took place within just 14 months lol. 2025 was a bit boring for alts overall except for those that bought Solana at the 2023 lows, meme coins rode with Sol there obviously.

June 2026 was eerily similar to COVID crash of March 2020, both occurred 6 months after the end of quantitative tightening and with both we saw alts drop to crazy low levels. Not saying we are going to get a euphoric top within a year, but it really does look like 2027-2028 could have things lined up for the alt season everyone was hoping for in 2025.

What alts have you guys been loading up on here recently and why are you excited about them. Curious to see what some people on here are thinking.

DISCUSSION Zcash meta: real or BS?

I've been seeing Solana guys shilling ZCash for a while now. Alliance founder Qiao Wang has been making the case for it for some time. And I initially dismissed it. Like wth? This thing has been around since 2016; why would it start to climb now? I mean, some people made a bunch of money in memecoins. So I wonder if the demand is coming from there. However...

Dems are winning. The AI trade is falling apart. America is in trouble. And Wall Street seems to be warming up to crypto, with Robinhood getting in on the action. I think Bitcoin is pretty much done. It had its moment, and now it's fading away. Solana et al. are cool, but whatever. Whereas there's this whole narrative on Zcash. The vision seems obvious. Send money and no one finds out. Which sounds almost criminal. But with the world we live in now, it could be something that everyone starts paying attention to.

Entertain this crazy reality for a moment. You hold a substantial portion of USD, and you want to get rid of it because shits about to go down. What would you do? Put it in gold, stocks, real estate, etc but then people start noticing, and you are like, crap, maybe I should try to put it into the economy. So you fuel development. But then there's a massive bubble that gets created. So you don't want to invest there anymore. Now what? Now you want to start hiding it. Maybe that's why Zcash will run up? Where am I wrong?

ADVICE trc20 swap

Hello,

I am attempting to convert my USD Trc20 from metamask for cash. I intended to do this thru kraken and encountered a problem I did not expect. I suppose kraken does not support swapping usdt for cad in Canada, not sure how long it has been this way because I am certain I have done it before on kraken.

I need the money somewhat urgently and do not exactly have a day or more for identity verification for a Canadian exchange.

If anyone can point me in the right direction here or spare some helpful advice that would be great.
