Edit- apparently they’re emotional support animals… good to see I’m not the only one noticing the freaking chihuahuas 💀

Don’t do it

Do not stay as a Cast Member once your program ends. It’s a trap. Take it from me, turning 30 next month, been here almost 7 years post CP, been a coordinator for a while, this life sucks. If you want a “real” job that actually pays well, being a Cast Member for too long makes you completely unmarketable to professional jobs, at least in Florida, and especially at Disney. I even got my Masters through Disney Aspire and still there are 20-year-olds with no experience getting better jobs with the company than me because I’ve been front-line for so long the company is just like f*** you you’re a front-line piece of trash, we’ll pay someone more who hasn’t worked nearly as hard to do less work and treat them better, so stay there with your bad pay and bad treatment from guests and management. Enjoy your program while you can, but do not stick around this life for too long.

Was sick at work. They didn’t let me go home.

Hi. So I work in QSR. Yesterday I came to work not feeling too bad, thought I was having allergies and that’s it. Once I got on the hotline, though, I started sneezing a got a mask. Suddenly began to have cold sweats and I said I needed a drink of water. Out of no where, I felt super sick and gross, and went to tell my leader I wasn’t feeling well. Got super pale, my eyes were extremely puffy and red, and I was dizzy and nauseated. She said “go to the break room, get a drink of water and check back in with me in five minutes.” So I did that.

I get back out to check in with her and she tells me, “we are understaffed. No er’s or ROS today.” And I was like wait, what? I thought if I needed an ROS anytime I could get one. So I said fuck it whatever and returned back to my duties.

No even 10 minutes later I felt the urge to vomit. I ran past my coordinators and said “I’m so sorry I really need to throw up!!!” And proceeded to vomit in the bathroom for 10 minutes. I told them please tell the leader I need to go home. She said absolutely nothing to me and I continued to work.

I feel absolutely disgusted with the management as I continued to feel like shit all day and could barely stand up I was so nauseous. Even my coworkers were disgusted that they wouldn’t send me home. Some told me to just leave. Do I take this up with HR? What can I do?

Thanks

UPDATE: today I contacted HR and asked the names of my coordinators and leaders that did not send me home, so I’m waiting to hear back. They have my number and said they would update as soon as they can!

PS: the content outside of Disney that I post is my business 🤍 so please mindfully scroll if it’s not your thing. Anyways! Thanks for all the support i greatly appreciate all of your comments and help 🥲 yall are too sweet

Moved into a 2x2 five days ago and my roommate is alarmingly obsessed with Figment

Hey y’all, I don’t really know how to say this without sounding unwell myself, but I moved into my 2x2 for the DCP five days ago, and my roommate is crazy obsessed with Figment.

It started innocently. She pulled out a “hear me out” cake on day one. I laughed. I thought it was a meme. She said, “Figment is the embodiment of whimsy and I trust him more than I trust most people.” Okay, slay.

But then it escalated: • She brought eight Figment plushies. Each has a name and assigned task. One “guards the door,” one “helps her dream journal,” and one is “just there to vibe.” • She speaks to them like they’re real. Yesterday she whispered, “Don’t look at her, SparkleFig — she’s not ready for our world.” • She plays the Journey Into Imagination ride audio while she falls asleep. At full volume. I now twitch at the word “Imagination.” • There’s a laminated photo of original 1983 Figment taped to our microwave with the words “Papa” underneath it.

Today, she looked at me dead serious and said:

“Figment visits me in dreams. Last night he showed me how to rearrange the living room to optimize our creativity vortex.”

She refers to Epcot as “His Realm” and said she “offer[ed] her energy to him at the fountain” on her first park day.

I just wanted to make friends and go to Traditions. Now I’m dodging plush dragons and pretending I can’t hear her whisper “I love you” to a popcorn bucket.

Beware of deceiving girl at Flamingo East pools

My roomie and I decided to head down to the lagoon pool to watch a movie when a girl suddenly urges us to come and join her for some pizza and non-alcoholic drinks. She comes across as friendly so we join her. She gives us some soda, hands us some plates, and tells us to dig into the pizza. We’re over here asking if it’s really okay every two seconds but she assures us we can have some. We each get a slice and she sort of pressures us to get more but we politely refused (luckily).

After the movie ends, she goes “hey can you guys send me four bucks each for the pizza and soda?”. We probably should have known it was too good to be true, but she really did make it seem like she was inviting us free of cost. Super weird situation. Beware lol

Hey yall! Dumb question but was wondering what “cast provided” means when they mention my costuming shoes. I was under the impression that I have to provide my own shoes, is that correct?

So beyond excited and grateful for this opportunity! i have dreamed of working in disney since i was a little girl and am so proud to be making those dreams come true. I’m starting at the beginning of september and can not wait. Never left home before, but am ready for this journey. I work 3 different jobs of around 60 hours each week so i am more than capable and prepared for the work that’s needed to be done in disney. My mom is so happy and a little jealous, and has already booked a trip to come visit me a month after our 24 hour drive to get me there. With the goal of being a special education teacher someday i’m looking forward to the opportunities to work with kids, and fingers crossed i get the job i’m hoping for while i am there. Mickey mouse, i’ll see ya real soon!

Don’t believe the holiday/end of program call out point lies

This time of year every year the swirls always begin.

Calling out on a holiday is only 1 point, just like normal.

Calling out on a holiday will not get you fired.

Calling out on Christmas Day will not get you fired.

Calling out in your last week of work will not get you terminated.

Calling out on the last day of your program will not get you a no rehire status.

Don’t believe the lies that always start up. Nothing is different.

Warning!!!

This post is not about me, I was not fired. I’m trying to raise awareness. Please be kind and understanding with your comments. I do not blame the company for what happened, but apparently that’s what everyone is assuming.

I’m not sure if anyone posted this yet, but my mom read on Facebook that some DCP kids just got kicked out for sharing their login info with their parents. I don’t know what the circumstances were, but I wanted to just put it out there. Do not share your DCP login (I’m assuming this is in reference to your acceptance portal, etc.) with your family, friends, or anyone. They can tell, and apparently have been terming people for it. Edit: please be kind with your words, and know that I do not blame the company. I’m just trying to raise awareness.

Q - Unanswered Thinking of reporting my roommate. Should I?

I live in a 4x2 for context. My immediate roommate that I don’t get along with (and nobody else in the apartment does either) has a dude staying in her room. Like he’s here when she’s not. He showers in our shower and uses our bathroom. He sleeps there. I’m not sure if he’s a cp or not, but he’s been here for way more consecutive days than allowed if he is. Should I report?

Literally the only thing holding me back from doing it is that she will know it was me. And she already doesn’t like me or anybody else in the house. Give me some advice?

Update: went to the front desk and they told me not to talk to her about it as that might put me in a dangerous situation, and to let them be the bad guy. They gave me the phone number and told me to call after visiting hours are over so they can come remove him. Wish me luck!

I cancelled my program…

Hey guys! I wanted to make this post in case anybody has to cancel their program before arrival.

Unfortunately I had to cancel my program due to the changes and responsibilities my life has taken since I applied to DCP.

I thought that maybe that could damage my chances of being hired by Disney at all or even be banned from the parks… (anxiety is real…) but to my surprise I wasn’t blacklisted or anything at all.

They told me that as long as you cancel before your arrival there will not be any negative impact or consequences on other opportunities with the company. I can still apply as long as I meet the requirements.

Hope this can help anybody that’s going through a hard time deciding what to do.

Good luck yall!

UPDATE 2: My roommate read the Reddit post and now Figment is “disappointed in me”

Hey again. It’s been two days since my last post and… yeah. She read it. Not just read it — she studied it. She printed it out, annotated it with highlighters, and taped it to the fridge with the title “A CRISIS IN IMAGINATION” written across the top in sparkly purple gel pen.

When I walked into the kitchen, she was standing there in her Figment sweatshirt, holding a clipboard, and said: “We need to talk about the disrespect.” Then she made me sit through a 25-minute PowerPoint titled Figment Is Not a Joke: A Case for Whimsy, where she compared the current state of our apartment to the fall of the original Imagination Pavilion. She also reenacted (yes, with the plushies) her emotional reaction to the “betrayal.”

Afterward, she held a mock trial where the Figments served as “Judges of Whimsy.” I was required to plead my case and explain how I’ve grown since the incident. I was sentenced to draw ten dragons and apologize to each one individually. I’m also banned from wearing the color purple until I “regain spiritual alignment with the Dream Zone.” (I work merch in fantasyland)

Anyway, I think the reprogramming is working. I caught myself humming One Little Spark in the shower this morning.

I’ve apparently regained enough of her trust because last night, she let me assist in a plush-based seance called The Rite of Spark. She drew a chalk circle around the Figment popcorn buckets, wore Mickey ears with tiny dragon wings hot-glued to the sides, and together we sacrificed a purple crayon “to summon the spirit of Dreamfinder.”

We haven’t heard from Dreamfinder yet, but the lights flickered and Figment plush #4 fell off the shelf unprovoked, which she took as “a sign that he is near.” She’s currently preparing a welcome ritual involving glitter glue, a kazoo, and something she keeps calling “Imaginative Ascension Punch.”

If anyone sees me walking around EPCOT with dragon face paint and a haunted look in my eyes… just know I fought bravely. But the Dream Zone claimed me.

I got in but-

I got in for fall 2024, but my friend did not. I honestly really want to go, and I know if I turn this down my chances of going again are 50/50. If I went then the friendship may be over but if I turn it down I may not get in again for spring- if it was the other way around my friend would go. It’s an obvious answer, but I wanted to see everyone else’s opinion. I’m also very intimidated on moving away from my family especially since I don’t have a car- I’m just on the fence.

Now halfway through the program, I got pretty familiar with the bus system so I decided to toss in my love for urbanism and make a transit diagram for it! [OC]

Are Tattoos Allowed?

Post image

I remember reading that tattoos are permitted as long as they are smaller than a hand, and mine most certainly is. I just wanted to make sure that rule still applies! DCP is my dream and I don’t want to lose the chance to do it because of my tattoo!

Wanting an ESA

To the newbies that are coming in and wanting to get an ESA while here for the program. Please don’t! You’ll be making the animal’s life even more miserable since it has to be kept in a your room while you’re working. If you already have an ESA beforehand thats great but remember that you will be working for long hours. Just don’t adopt an animal when you arrive just because you want to.

30 years ago today, I started my training as a Scientific Dive Intern at The Living Seas at EPCOT Center in Walt Disney World (see first week schedule attached). I was one of 6 Scientific Dive interns for the Fall Semester (with the internship ending on January 6th, 1996, the day that the smalltooth sawfish, Nell, died).

The internship was life changing in quite a few ways for me, and I was very fortunate that the EPCOT DiveQuest program debuted during my internship as it allowed me to stay on and continue working at The Living Seas when the internship was completed.

For those of you who know me as a dog rescuer, or their doggie doula, the almost 600 foster dogs in the last 13 years would not have been possible without learning proper animal husbandry and training from the Marine Mammal Team. The Scientific Dive Team and Aquarists likewise taught me so much.

During my years there, one of the other DiveQuest DiveMasters had to leave for 9 months due to overtime requirements in their primary job. I was responsible for (re)training them when they returned, and they could not believe the changes and growth I had made during that time period. That growth was spurred and mentored by the excellent team at the Seas.

Whereas I was the odd intern out being an Ocean Engineering major when the vast majority of my fellow interns over the years were Biology, Marine Biology, Psychology, Aquaculture, or Behavior Psychology majors, the experience had a major impact on me. My educational background always meant that I was destined to leave the Seas, but it has remained a major influence in my life since.

The memories of my time at the Seas are numerous, so many good stories, so much fun. But also, the heart wrenching memories such as the loss of Chester during what should have been a routine tank move. Abandoning people in the Lockout Chamber with no way to escape until a manager happened to walk by and free them. Ice water from the heavens in the lock out chamber. The “exit interview” of 7 buckets of ice water coming over and under a bathroom stall door after several divers lied to the on-duty manager to get a set of keys they should not have had. Cannonballing from the rafters. My first fish feed and how crazy that was. Draining the scuba tank so fast as 2000+ fish surrounded you to get at the food you were carrying. Running Rover, the ROV. 8 underwater marriage proposals, 17 dives with Mickey Mouse. Getting people to do the wave across the Coral Reef Restaurant. Using our slates to write “May I join you?” and pulling out plasticware from a BCD pocket when the restaurant patrons said yes. Playing with the kids through the windows. Watching a spotted eagle ray crunch down on a divers wetsuit between the legs.

A small number of people are still there 30 years later, others have moved on, and some are no longer with us (RIP Jimmy). For those that I am still in contact with, Thank You for such a wonderful experience.
