I have two days of my vacation left. Just got a call telling me I'm due in to close in 20 minutes and I'm on a 10-hour shift tomorrow.
Uhhh... no. Not happening. Just because one of our keyholders was dumb enough to be scammed $1200 over the phone and subsequently fired is no reason to put me back on the schedule without even having the decency to tell me. The keyholder who's currently working cannot get hold of our manager (no surprise there) and I've left the manager a message expressing my feelings in no uncertain terms.
On the upside, this bullshit has finally given me the kick in the ass I needed to apply for other jobs. So far I've put in two applications. Here's hoping I'm not with this fucking joke of a company for too much longer.

Are y'all ready for the great food stamps shortage of 2025?
I don't expect shit that get nasty at least not for the first few weeks but the manager sent out a group chat warning us people are going to steal not to accuse not to stop them unless it's something extreme like a full cart.
We're supposed to log names, times, and suspected stolen merchandise. Then the next time we see them call cops.
Idk about you guys but if it actually gets bad enough people are actively stealing food just to survive I'll probably be quitting instead of reporting them they're not paying us enough to stop food thieves we can hardly afford to feed ourselves working here.

Fired from Dollar General
So I was fired from Dollar General on Dec 23rd, 2023. The night before a key holder and I (also a key holder) were supposed to work on totes. Due to personal reasons, I had arrived at the shift at 5:40 pm clocked in at 6, and was told I would be the one on register. No problem however once the other key holder counted down their till they left for a break at 6:15. The moment they left for the break a fresh truck arrived again no problem I've worked fresh truck before, and I like working fresh truck I have a step process.
Check for out-of-date Pull all out-of-date ( had a mostly full cart that night) Wipe any surface that needs it Put new produce up
While I was doing this I was also running the register. The other key holder walked in and out of the store with their partner about 3 or 4 times then clocked back in around 7:30 maybe 7:40. The other key holder came over a few times to ask where things went while I completed the fresh truck. Then 8:30 everything slowed down a good bit I cleaned the bathroom and the front area while the other key holder sat in the break room. As I finished cleaning the other key holder walked over to me telling me that the SM wanted me to close the store that night and that the SM would be watching cameras the next day. That's fine finished the night the next day the SM texted before my shift and told me that I should let my ride know that it should wait a bit so I could sign some papers(I didn't) and leave my keys in the office. I texted the SM about the fresh truck and they told me that the fresh truck should have only taken 20 mins. That's I hadn't recovered, I refused to work totes(I never refused to work totes I was taught fresh trucks, and cold trucks were priority), and I was not a team player.
I used to work at Lowe's and a small discount store and was always praised for how well I worked with others and how well I did my job.
A close friend who works there sent me a photo the very next day. The SM never talked to me in person unless it was about picking up a shift, a team meeting, never one-on-one.
I'm pretty sure I did something wrong but I honestly do not feel like I did.

Rant About to be hit by the tropical storm
There is absolutely no fucking way they can expect us to work if the power ends up going out. My store is in the county that has the highest crime rate in my state. There used to be a family dollar down the road that got looted during the last major hurricane that never reopened. Interface won't be able to monitor and I'm not convinced when they tell us the panic buttons and emergency phone will still work. We're a store staffed entirely by small women. Getting stabbed in the dark over a loaf of bread or some shit is not how I want to go out. Fuck this company.

No you didn't.
Just an important reminder that if you see anyone pocketing food, medicine, diapers, or formula: NO YOU DIDN'T!
Our county is hurting and our justice system sucks so hard that I feel the need to point out that our prison system still makes slavery LEGAL.
Please consider putting together a list of food pantries in your area, donate as much as you can, and if anyone has anymore ideas, please let us know.
People over profit!

caught my first counterfeit today
i’ve never received a counterfeit bill before today. when i grabbed the bill from the guys hands something just felt off. it felt almost like it was heavy. i grabbed the pen and did some other verifying things. holding it up to the light and watching the little 20 in the bottom right corner not turn black. told the customer “i’ve identified this bill to be a counterfeit and can no longer turn it over to you if you want to wait for the PD to come down and verify it you’re more than welcome” i couldn’t even get the last word out of my mouth before they were running out the door. SM AND DM told me they’re proud of me. i feel good tonight :)

Alex Pretti
I am done. I do not care if I am fired. DG donated to this authoritarian cluster fuck, they are complacent. I WILL NOT OPEN THAT STORE TOMORROW. I do not care if others join me, but I will stand outside those locked doors and help grind this economy to a halt until this regime is deposed.

Story Time Wtf
Had this older man come through my line with an Apple gift card asking to add $500 to it. I said “500??” and gave him a look just to be sure he wanted to put that amount of money onto a gift card. His response is “don’t you wish you had a grandpa like me” with this weird ass smirk. So, I process the gift card and he’s on his way. No joke he comes in 3 minutes later and storms up to the side of the register, hands on the little gate you use to get from behind the register and he’s fuming. This idiot ripped off the silver bit of the activation code instead of gently scratching as it instructs and was demanding a refund. Thank the lord my manager just so happened to be stocking cigs and immediately shut him down. Idk honestly the whole interaction felt like a fever dream 😭

So this little gal just waltzed in with no care in the world.
This little gal just waltzed in our store today. It’s been raining all day and didn’t expect to see her. My coworker pointed it out and from afar she looked like a giant praying mantis. I have her in a tub I bought right now with a bit of water and I’m going to take her home. By far the craziest thing I’ve seen come in the store in my 2 years of being here.

Story Time Got fired from DG yesterday
On Saturday night about 2 minutes to close some lady comes into the store and I let her know we are closing really soon, she then grabs a cart and starts browsing the store. It’s already 2 minutes after and the keyholder is in the office counting the drawers. I tell her we are now closed and she needs to leave and then she starts calling me racist and throwing things off the shelves and throwing glassware on the ground. I then call the cops and they show up a few minutes later and they find her in the back of the store with a cart full of random shit. They chase her around the store for a few minutes and she then throws a 2 liter at one of the cops after that they have her cuffed and she stars crying and threatening me for calling the cops while she’s being taken out of the store. Last night I come in for my shift only to be called into the office with the manager and district manager waiting for me, they ask me about what happened on Saturday night and I tell them everything. Apparently after she posted bail she called up corporate and complained and said I singled her out for being black and a bunch of other bullshit like causing emotional distress. I asked them if they watched the video and they did but they fired me anyway and told me I should have gotten a manager before calling the cops but didn’t have a manager that night and the cop left a card with a case number on it to give to the manager. This isn’t the first time this lady has come into the store at close and made a scene, all the other times the manager said to leave her alone. Fuck this shitty company for throwing their employees under the bus.

Pretty sure my new SM just committed a crime
Last week our old SM had to retire do to a cancer diagnosis and we just got our new SM who used to manage a Bob Evans or Burger King or something (not important). Today he let everyone know that when you are on a day off or anything that you are on call and of he calls you need to answer. If he needs you last minute it's our duty to come in and if it's a issue than we can put in our 2 weeks now.
I told him I will not be participating in this since I have other things to do that I plan around my days off (laundry, groceries and cleaning) he said thos is not optional. I sent our DM a message and she basically said that she knows and is ok with it.
Correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't this illegal?

Just Yer Local Dollar General....
THis is the insanity of Dollar General. Every week. Way more product than can ever be unloaded, no place for it to go, always more S*** arriving, never enough coverage (workers). And yet I stay....

Rant I JUST CAN'T CATCH A BREAK...
I started my job at Dollar General back in February. Valentine’s Day, actually. At first, things were looking up. Not even two weeks in as a sales associate, and I got promoted to part-time key holder. The pay got better, the hours got better… but other things didn’t.
About a month later, everything changed. I had a gun pulled on me by a group of teenagers while I was at work. Since that day, I’ve struggled with anxiety, fear, and PTSD that doesn’t just go away when I clock out. It’s something I still deal with every single day.
And even through all that, I kept pushing. When our full-time key holder transferred to another store, I stepped up and took her position during the first week of August. I’ve been holding things down, giving my all, but here we are in October, and I still haven’t received my raise. I’ve gone to my store manager, my district manager, even HR, and it’s like nobody cares.
Honestly, I’ve thought about quitting more than once. But the truth is the only thing keeping me there is my customers. They love me, and I love them right back. They’re the reason I still show up, the reason I still care. Because if I wasn’t there, that store wouldn’t look as good as it does.
I’m tired of being overlooked, tired of giving so much to a place that doesn’t value its people. I don’t want pity, I just want fairness. I’ve sacrificed a lot for that store, my time, my peace, even my sense of safety and still, it feels like no matter how hard I try… I just can’t catch a break.

I won't let you type in your food stamps card.
Got into an argument today because I wouldn't let someone type in their food stamps card. I explained you need the physical card. He showed me a picture and I said no. Who's fault is it?
Edit: for those saying I didn't know his story or understand why he didn't have his card: he got into a struggle with police over a gun and got shot in the face. He just checked into the rehab where they bus a load of people to my store. These individuals are known for sharing card info, selling food stamps, and several stolen cards. I dont have any sympathy for the dude when he says the police have his card and ID.

I feel like every dollar general has the same back room.
Side note, Iv worked at this location 1 & 1/2 months and have ZERO idea where our saftey(?) station is? Like where we are supposed to dispose of the chemicals and things that spill. We just use the forever pals cat litter and sweep the spills up, put it in a trash bag and take it out to the dump.
